Using PD-MUTCD license

Hi there, I noticed you've been using {{PD-USGov-MUTCD}} on some of your Tennessee shield images. However, that license is not really appropriate since the image doesn't come from the MUTCD, but rather, from a state publication. This could mean, among other things, that the image isn't even in the public domain, but regardless, the license is not really correct. Please modify the images accordingly at your earliest convenience. Thanks! lensovet 22:05, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Uh, they are. Even though it's a state publication, state highway shields are still in the jurisdiction of the MUTCD, and as shown here, the Alabama State Route shield is shown. This means that state and U.S. Route shields are in the jurisdiction of the MUTCD. (zelzany - framed) 03:19, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
I concur 100% with vishwin. All state routes are under the jurisdiction of the federal MUTCD. States must adhere to the standards set - and can write their own subsets but all state MUTCD's can only augment, they cannot replace the federal MUTCD. master sonT - C 03:21, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Per Master son and Vishwin60, MUTCD has power and control over the state highway maintanace. -- JA10 T · C 03:26, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Explanation

The Flickr user is not the copyright owner of these pictures. The Common user (User:Filomena) opened a Flickr user account ad hoc to gather pictures of her favourite singer in order to make a "license laundering". By the way: the user was blocked for one year on Portuguese Wikipedia because of several reasons, lack of honesty is one of them. Dantadd 13:46, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm also guessing that incivility was another one of those problems. Point taken. (zelzany - framed) 14:49, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Image:Arif solak HanabatCaravanserai.jpg

Hi. Pls take a minute and observe the picture page in wiki EN at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Arif_solak_HanabatCaravanserai.jpg

I'll appreciate it if you guide me about this as I see nothing wrong with original licensing. Cheers, Ori

Thank you for getting back to me. Your behaviour is simply disgasting. I uploaded the image to my local Wiki. As far as I am concerned, you can... Oride 18:49, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Well, as You can probably see, this photo was only moved by me from en.wikipedia to Commons. The problem is, that it was originally uploaded on Flickr, so I've choosen this license (is it correct, or I should use a different one for such a images?)

I'm unable to verify the description, but I will ask the original uploader to send the requested documents at the adress you've written about.

I have a favour to ask of You: could You please inform me what will happen with this image on my Polish talk page? I'm only time-to-time commons user. Galileo01 19:11, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

That's not a matter of understanding Polish, that's a matter of informing me (in English) about new messages. It's important, because it's much easier to meet me on pl.wikipedia than on commons or en.wikipedia. But, if You are unable to do that, there's no problem. Galileo01 08:54, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for your support!   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 20:10, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Tabs

Hey, when did you start using tabs? They look familiar... or did I forget and already talk to you about this? Maybe I should too so my page is uniform with en:wp... ++Lar: t/c 17:10, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Nah, I've just looked over your talk page on en.wikipedia, and it looks like anybody can copy it. I think you should do tabs too... (O - v d e) 17:15, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Of course anyone can copy it, it's a wiki! (a credit would be nice but it's no biggie) I wonder (since I hear that more and people are using them or variants) if it would make sense to move it out of userspace though, and add parms for the colors (you should change your colors a bit, mine are BORING :) ) ... seems a waste to have several people maintain them. Maybe propagate them to various wikis too. Because I really like that crosslink thing to get you to different wikis... ++Lar: t/c 17:32, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm looking at this svg and I'm finding ugliness written all over it. If one person is to blame - its me ;)

Could you see what needs to be done to depixelate this image and make it cleaner, thanks master sonT - C 17:25, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Image deletion warning Image:Fort Bend Parkway Toll Road.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Your both misspelled the category

Hallo, your bot just moved the images of the interior of Hagia Sophia to Category:Interior of Hagin Sophia. There is a misspelling, the correct name is Hagia, not Hagin. --User:G.dallorto 20:57, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

I've corrected it. (D'oh typos). (O - RLY?) 21:01, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

"{{unsigned2}} to {{subst:unsigned2}}"

What's up with this change? it seems ill advised to me as it loses any improvements that might be made to the template later. Was it discussed somewhere (here)? ++Lar: t/c 04:00, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

It's merely common sense; see some examples on en.wikipedia. The real thing is that these are generally treated the same as signatures—we forbid any sig template transcluding. (O - RLY?) 04:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
This should help explain. (O - RLY?) 04:08, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to see consensus here before you continue. What is done on en is not something I agree with but there is consensus for it. We are not en and consensus there does not translate to consensus here. Unsigned2 is not exactly like a signature and there is no good reason not to transclude it. ++Lar: t/c 10:35, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok, let's go get some then. It may have not been controversial, but if you say we need to get some consensus, then we get consensus. (O - RLY?) 13:21, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
I could be all wet, after all. You wanna take it to VP or shall I? (that seems the best place)... ++Lar: t/c 13:28, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
You can do it if you want...though I'm not gonna be really active today till ~12:25 EDT. (O - RLY?) 13:31, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Image:Defoe's grave.jpg

Sorry, I red badly the image's description. The author made other pictures under commons share alike license, and I consider under this license Defoe's grave , too. But I did an error, that image has all rights reserved. I'll pay attention in future. Sorry for bad english, I'm Italian!! Bye --Melancholyblues 15:03, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Was kept by you. However, this images does not have a proper license. In this case it would be save to replace it with a {{PD-self}} template. And with regards to the {{Kept}} template: This should be put on the talk page of the image. If you need any help as an Admin newbie. Please feel free to ask me. --ALE! ¿…? 21:13, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

One more point: The usage of the kept template is {{kept|Date when the deletion request was opened|and here (only if necessary) the deletion request page for this image}}. --ALE! ¿…? 21:15, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, looks like MECU put {{Kept}} on the page itself here, but eh. Point taken. (O - RLY?) 21:25, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

FinnishDefenceForces

Hi, You closed the deletion request, okay. But before deleting anything, can these images be moved to English Wikipedia, since they allow reproducing and using these images, which would be okay in English Wikipedia? I mean, teh same template exists there too: see [1] for example. --Pudeo 19:28, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit conflict] They can be moved to en.wikipedia under a term of fair use because it is unclear if these can be used commercially and/or if derivative works can be made out of them. (O - RLY?) 19:31, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Well should I start moving them myself? How long it will take until they're removed? Well ehrm, half of them are already removed. Guess I should have done that time before. --Pudeo 19:33, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit conflict] They could be deleted as soon as right now. I'd recommend that you get moving these pictures to en.wikipedia before somebody else finds that they are tagged as copyvios. For me, I will allow a two-day grace period before they will get deleted. (O - RLY?) 19:35, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Oops, none of them are deleted, they're here. I can't move them to English Wikipedia, it says an image exists in Commons with the same name and does not upload. We'd need an admin to do that, to delete these images here and upload them to English Wikipedia and copy the details there. ({{FinnishDefenceForces}}-template exists there too. You have some free time do you? ;) Damn it, there are 200 images, quite some work to do.. Maybe if I pick the most important ones, we can move those only, to spare a lot of time. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Pudeo (talk • contribs) at 20:42, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Tell me when you are done saving all of them to your computer, so then I can delete them. Make sure you provide source information when uploading to en.wikipedia. (O - RLY?) 20:45, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Somebody is removing them already all the time one by one, but no worries for me, I got the most important ones to my hard drive, including descriptions and sources. But thanks anyway. --Pudeo 21:09, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...
O/2007/July, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons @ irc.freenode.net.

Thank you very much! (O - RLY?) 17:17, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Congrats! Please put an {{User admin}} tag on your user page. --ALE! ¿…? 21:08, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
A mop to get you started
Congrats as well! Here's a mop to get you started!  :)   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 05:32, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

And enjoy your trip to the People's Republic of China! There is probably more Internet access available there now than ever before, as long as you stick to the cities. And if you could scare up some information for COM:FOP#China, that would help, too.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 02:49, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Image:Lothar von Arnauld de la Perière.jpg

Thank you for your concern regarding the Image:Lothar von Arnauld de la Perière.jpg What you did not put was why you believed the image violated copyright? The image was taken during the First World War and is not subject to copyright. I assume that the image has been speedily deleted by you or others acting at your behest. Please provide adequate reasons for your actions. PS A simple please in your statement on my talk page would have been more respectful. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Ozdaren 08:14, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Commons does not accept fair use. That is a policy that is to be strictly enforced. The image description page clearly states that it was fair use, plus the fact that it was created in 1914 in Germany, with the author dead before 70 years have passed ({{PD-old}}). (O - RLY?) 15:36, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Does that mean the image should not have had fair use as a rationale, but was however OK to be used since copyright had expired? It seems a simple change to the description would have resolved the issue. Are there any policies against the image being uploaded again? Ozdaren 06:55, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Copyright has not yet expired, so this image cannot be uploaded to Commons. (O - RLY?) 14:37, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't seem as if the copyright still exists. If the picture was 1st published around the time of WW1 then the copyright has expired[2]. On what assertation do you base that the image is still copyright. Ozdaren 08:12, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
