Thank you for uploading files on Commons.

You could use GFDL-self instead of plain GFDL for own files.

Please add your files to appropriative pages and/or categories where other users could easily find them. For example to Category:Keyboards.

Thanks, I'll do that. –M.

I don't think the license is compatible, the flag should be in the PD for being a millitary insignia. --Cool CatTalk|@ 23:48, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There has been a lot of discussion about the licensing of flag images on Wikipedia. I think most of the time the result has been that representations of flags may be licensed under e.g. GFDL, if they establish enough originality. (Does this one?) Mysid 10:51, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for svg'ing this flag. It looks nice and better than the FOTW image. I feel glad the the other image isn't lonely anymore. :) Hoshie 02:03, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the compliment, and nice to hear you like it. :) Mysid 11:38, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I misinterpreted the law. My bad. Mysid 12:22, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you tag my photo with Derivative? I have multilicenced it under two free licences, what else do you want? ZeroOne 22:32, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. Lego figures are copyrighted works of art. Thus, all photographs taken of them are derivative works, and their copyright belongs to Lego. Please see Commons:Derivative works. Yours, Mysid 08:16, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So where do you draw the line? Should every picture of every building be tagged as derivative, surely the copyright belongs to their architects? How about a street view — if there is any commercial advertisement in the photo, is it a derivative work not allowed in Commons? ZeroOne 09:32, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Did you read COM:DW already? Mysid 10:53, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so how about this: I changed the GFDL-tag to include the disclaimers. See the Trademarks-section. Isn't this enough? ZeroOne 13:25, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, it is still a derivative of a copyrighted work and against policy. I didn't invent this though. Mysid 19:46, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Toy soldiers[edit]

Why did you tag Image:Soldatini cowboy.jpg, Image:Marxfigures.JPG, Image:Soldatini plastica.jpg and Image:Airfix54mm.JPG with Derivative? They are all copy of uniform, they are not original. --Luigi Chiesa 22:48, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures showing a librsvg bug[edit]

Hello, I noticed you tagged some of the chemical compound pictures in this category. However, the PNG rasterisations of Image:Aztreonam structure.svg, Image:Diphenylalanine structure.svg and Image:Phenylthiocarbamide structure.svg look to me identical, even down to the pixel level, to the Firefox renditions of the original SVG images. So I wanted to ask you, why were those tagged? --Fibonacci 10:56, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you look carefully you'll notice that the subscripts are not working correctly, i.e. it reads H3C instead of H3C. This is because librsvg ignores the baseline-shift property, bug #5792. User:Ysangkok has modified some of the pictures now, so perhaps all of them don't fit in the category any more. Mysid 08:03, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Radio_propagation_noise.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Pieni & yksinkertainen kuvanluontipyyntö[edit]

Moi. Tarvetta olisi kääntää suomeksi muutama kuva (image:No free image woman (en).svg ja image:No free image man (en).svg), pystyisitkö pyöräyttämään nämä? SVG[edit]

Thank you for uploading SVG-images of flags and coats of arms! I renamed some of them.--Ahonc 18:44, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the thanks. :) Mysid 19:53, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, why have you renamed a "coat of arms" as "coat of Arms"? As far as I know, "arms" is not a proper noun and should not be capitalized. Also renaming like this causes tedious work, because the image is already being used in several wikis. Mysid 06:23, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But in the titles used capital letters (I ask admin before renaming). Also this is not tedious work because there are bots that replaced images in all projects.--Ahonc 16:33, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So all image names should have all words capitalized? :o Weird, I didn't know this. Mysid 09:58, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know.:)--Ahonc 15:17, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This image turned out really nice, but its a bit purple and thats not the real colour of the glass :)! Lusitana 19:20, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. :( That's what I thought, actually. Should it be reverted? Or tried to further adjust the colors? Mysid 19:52, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I saw you made an SVG of this patch. That is wonderful. However I have one slight request in that light. Could you add a small black border on the outer edge? That would make it better visible and more recognizable on some pages. The jpg originally had a black background and that wasn't really accounted for when someone made a PNG of it, which makes it blur into pages somewhat. Would adding a new black border be possible? TheDJ 20:05, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

like this version of STS-100 has Image:Sts-100-patch.jpg. Also, are you planning on doing more SVG conversions of patches? If you are, I could give you a list of sources, because the listed ones, and the images in wikipedia, are not always the best versions of the images. TheDJ 20:11, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the comments. I've now uploaded a version with a black border, and it indeed looks better now. And yes, I'm planning on doing more of them and I'd appreciate good-quality sources. :) Mysid 22:00, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that was one fast discussion. Mysid 17:13, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

?? Long discussions are needed when no clear information about the copyright status of a item is available. As long as the proper licensing information on the NATO logo has been provided, what kind of long discussion is needed? The issue is pretty clear: does the image comply with Commons' licensing conditions? As the provided licensing information states that the NATO logo cannot be used with commercial purposes no further discussion is needed. --Ecemaml talk to me/habla conmigo 10:07, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In that case, next time you should use a template that doesn't say "We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this". Mysid 14:22, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
On the other hand, institutions like this are not always the most accurate when it comes to licensing. Just look at all the baseless claims NASA often puts in their "license" statements. Half of that is simply not true. Where they say "cannot be used with commercial purposes" they often intend to say: "we request you inform us about commercial usage". I'm not totally convinced just yet. Besides, the fact that this instantly broke several hundred articles is my biggest worry. We should always act with utmost care when so many articles are indirectly affected. TheDJ 13:10, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

deprecated function in your monobook.js[edit]

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

To allow us to remove includePage from Mediawiki:Common.js I'd kindly ask you to replace its use with importScript (same syntax!). Thanks! --Dschwen 17:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

and these countries have no enforced conscription, although the law allow this but not enforced, so we should consider their now condition and paint them blue:

1- Ethiopia(Africa) 2-Uruguay(America) 3- Chile(America) 4-Bolivia for seeing refrence go to the: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2024.html.

Thanks for the update! I confirmed from CIA that Iraq, Tanzania, Ghana and Peru have no conscription; they are blue now. Oh, I just cheated a bit. Just like the description says, "the colorspace is an embedded PNG raster"; in other words, I copied the gradient from a high-resolution raster image and saved it as a PNG raster layer. Mysid (talk) 19:50, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

chemical structures[edit]

Helly mysid, I noticed that recently several of your chemical formulae (e.g. Image:Beta-alanine structure.svg) display incorrectly especially when they are scaled (perhaps due to a change in the librsvg?). You can fix that error by converting the text in the SVGs to paths. I also noticed an error in your image Image:Curcumin structure.svg (see the description page for further info). Regards, --NEUROtiker  19:41, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mysid, one of your SVG graphics was reused in combination with an unfree Commons logo. This combination constitutes a tricky license problem as your diagram was licensed under a share-alike license which conflicts with the restricted license of the logo. If you like, you could resolve this case by adding a reuse permission for your diagram for this special case to this image which no longer insists on the share-alike condition. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 06:55, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The SVG graphic I made is a derivative of File:Stop hand nuvola.svg, itself licensed as CC-BY-SA; I can't really modify the license. Mysid (talk) 09:13, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Mysid, thanks for your quick response. You are right and I've followed the chain of reuses up to File:Stop hand.svg which was created by Silsor. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 10:42, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Converting copyrighted raster to free vector[edit]

Hey there,

I see you convert raster to vector - somehow I would like to make use of various GSM coverage map posters within Wikipeida or Commons. Instead of getting OTRS permission for free use from the copyright holders (which might be quite difficult), do you think there is a way to re-create these maps in vector under free licence? Sure it would not be 100% poster copying to avoid possible copyvios - country borders and coverage colors and a simple legend would be enough for the free versions. The original posters would be linked as data sources... Thanx for advice and take care! Kozuch (talk) 16:47, 9 March 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Hello, Mysid!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Flag of Sedang.svg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

I believe the RMAF roundel should have a 'solid' sun, as on the National Flag. Could you please correct it? Or do you have a photo to prove your version is correct? (Milesli) 14:10, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think there is a mistake in the image, because if the «precession movement is CCW, not clockwise» when we represent it from the interior of the "celestial sphere", or if you prefer, against the sky, it becomes "clockwise" seen "overhanging". It was a pleasure to speak to you. (I'm french, excuse my english). Blogbreather (talk) 17:01, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just tried to revert the File:Earth precession.svg to its original correct CW version as I explained at File talk:Earth precession.svg but was unsuccessful. Could you please revert to the CW image? — Joe Kress (talk) 01:06, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind. It was a caching problem. The image now shows the correct CW precession. — Joe Kress (talk) 02:12, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
