Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Suggestion re:author structured data

Hi Multichill, thank you for your work on structured data on Commons. Thanks to your work, we have been able to make a map of uploaders of pictures which are assigned as image (P18) in items of Czech municipalities - https:// bit.ly/ 2PyhwyW . I noticed that a lot of pictures by our prolific uploader ŠJů lack author data, presumably because he fills in the "author" field differently - see File:Sedlec-Prčice,_od_Sušetic.jpg or File:Jesenice u Sedlčan.jpg. Do you think you could parse these data? If not, is there a way I could do this myself? Having no programming skills, unfortunately, the most I am able to do is run a pre-made script and feed it a list of files. --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 15:59, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

@Vojtěch Dostál: that query is pretty cool! I used it to create this one for the Rijksmonumenten in the Netherlands.
I use this regex to extract the username and that doesn't match. I'll see what I can do. Multichill (talk) 17:57, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you. Credits for the query go to Dipsacus fullonum.--Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 18:16, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

I noticed that we don't have a property for 'uploader'. Would it be desirable to include this information in structured data too?--Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 20:48, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Structured data across Wikimedia is starting!

Hi Multichill! I hope you're fine. :) I sent you an email some days ago about Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW), the new WMF project that is about to start, and I wanted to be sure you received it.

Please do not feel pressured by this message! I'm just curious if you can (or want) to drop a line in the talk page, or if you know other user(s) that can be interested in the topic.

Hope to hear from you soon! --Sannita (WMF) (talk) 17:08, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Spell4Wiki Mass audio uploads in Dagbani - help needed to clean up

Hi Multichill! We'd need your help to Rename and Recategorize 289 audio files.

Some background

Dagbani Wikimedians undertook a project to record and upload Dagbani words to Wikimiedia Commons. We used the Spell4Wiki app which allows users to select their language, and then the app will proceed to add a prefix-language code to the Commons file's name. 4000+ words were uploaded into Category:Files uploaded by spell4wiki in dag.

The issues

  • Some users selected the wrong language to record their Dagbani word. Those wrong prefixed words are at Files uploaded by spell4wiki in CHECK. We would like them to be renamed with the right prefix Dag-
  • When renamed, some of those words in Category:Files uploaded by spell4wiki in CHECK will already exist in Category:Files uploaded by spell4wiki in dag. We want to keep both files(as they would likely have been recorded by a different user), so one of the duplicated file names can be named with the suffix, _1 or _2 (if there are 3 duplicates), and so on. E.g. Dag-Atalaata_1
  • To ensure conformity for all the words, we want the first letter of every word to be in caps, and the rest of the characters to be in lower case. i.e. Dag-Atalaata. We would like to rename all such files that don't conform, to now conform to this.

Many thanks for your help. —M@sssly 12:25, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Troll

Take me to AN/U if you think I’m a troll, or appologize. -- Tuválkin 19:25, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

I'm responding to your actions, not who you are. It was clearly requested to respond on the other page so I removed your comment. Instead of just commenting on the other page you decided to do a bit of trolling. Just drop it. I don't have to go to Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems. That's for users asking admin help. As you can see on my user page I'm an admin here so I can act on disruptive users myself. Multichill (talk) 19:32, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
  • I’m well aware that you are an admin (and I also know that admins should not act as such when dealing with conflicts with other users, rather ask an uninvolved admin to step in — a good practice disregarded too often). So you are convinced that what prompted me to post what I did was trolling? Here I am, investing a lot of my spare time curating files but it’s all a cover and I’m actually here for teh lulz? Good to know. Rest asured that my opinion of you is no less negative, and likely more seriously so (because shilling for a corporate giant is worse than mere nihillism) — I hope mine is as much of a false impression as yours are. If you had a shred of good faith, you’d have moved my question to the other location and replied it there, instead of just deleting it — but of course you presume as much good faith from me as I do from you. Fair enough. (B.t.w., if AN/U is for problems of/by/from users, not problems about/with users, then everybody has been using it wrong for years…) -- Tuválkin 02:13, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

March 2021

Given your an admin you should already know this rule. Please don't under any circumstance remove editors comments unless they have given permission for you to do so. –Davey2010Talk 03:02, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

I follow Dutch Wikipedia rules where it's quite common to remove remarks that are placed in the wrong location. Multichill (talk) 10:27, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
I know each Wiki has their own rules however I didn't think you could remove others comments on other wikis. We also have TPO here (Commons:Talk_page_guidelines#In_general) which does state "Keep the discussion readable: Do not edit or remove comments made by other people unless they are offensive, uncivil or otherwise violate the guidelines or policies of Commons."
Tuvalkin's reply wasn't offensive, uncivil or violated any guidelines - The guideline also goes on to say that "When it is necessary to edit or remove comments, explain your reasoning in your edit summary. Often it is clearer to strike a comment, rather to change or delete it," however I've never seen comments deleted - just struck and only sock comments are struck.
Only vandal comments can be removed which in this case Tuvalkin isn't one so I'm afraid removing his comments (or striking them) isn't an option sorry. Thanks. –Davey2010Talk 11:44, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
Pay attention to copyright

THANKS

Thanks so much for adding all the metadata to the photos I uploaded recently. I am especially grateful as I never learnt how to do it and now I am not well and am hurrying to get as many of my photos uploaded which might be of interest to others while I can. I send you my gratitude and very best wishes. Keep well! Cheers! John E. Hill (talk) 05:49, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Londinium?

I notice that File:Café in Old Broad Street - geograph.org.uk - 1818989.jpg has a displayed "Place of creation" of "Londinium (Londinium→Roman Britain→praetorian prefecture of Gaul→Roman Empire)", which is amusing but probably not appropriate. Londinium (Q927198) has an end time (P582) that predates when the photo was taken, so GeographBot probably should have ignored it. Indeed, the "Structured data" tab for that file warns about this as a constraint violation. --bjh21 (talk) 14:18, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

@Bjh21: that sure is unexpected. The source is http://edwardbetts.com/geocode/detail?lat=51.516381&lon=-0.082589 based on the camera location, the object used http://edwardbetts.com/geocode/detail?lat=51.516367&lon=-0.081725 and that returned the Aldgate (Q2098078) . @Edward: can you have a look what is happening here? Multichill (talk) 20:34, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
There was a bug in the geocoder, it first checks OSM for small, specific administrative areas. It is looking for areas tagged with admin_level=7 or higher. City of London is tagged as admin_level=6 in OSM, so the Gecoder rejects it. Next the Gecoder looks for nearby human settlements in Wikidata. It finds that Londinium is the nearest human settlement.
I've made two changes to fix this bug. I adjusted the SPARQL query to ignore any items with an end date and I've added a special case for City of London, so the geocoder will use the information from OSM, even though the admin_level < 7. edward (talk) 09:22, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Help with bot

Forgive me if this is not the right place to ask for this. Could your bot help recategorize 1000+ images from Category:Javanese script, uploaded by User:Kidemang to a subcategory: Category:Javanese script files by Kidemang? They obscure the rest of the files there. Thanks! Bennylin (yes?) 22:58, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

GeographBot character-set confusion

It seems that GeographBot is mangling at least some characters in picture titles from Geograph. Take File:Play area, Eòropaidh - geograph.org.uk - 1813954.jpg, for instance. On Geograph, its title is "Play area, Eòropaidh", but Geographbot converted that into "Play area, Eòropaidh" in the filename, the caption, and the title. I'll fix this file, but I expect this is a systematic problem with the bot that should be fixed. --bjh21 (talk) 01:00, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

@Bjh21: looks like encoding problem, see http://api.geograph.org.uk/api-facetql.php?select=*&limit=1&where=id+between+1813954+and+1813954 . Json should only contain utf8 encoded strings. I'll look more deeper into it later. Multichill (talk) 09:50, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Eww, yes. "Play area, E\u00c3\u00b2ropaidh". That's blatantly a bug in the Geograph API. --bjh21 (talk) 11:46, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
FYI, I think I've fixed all the affected uploads to date. --bjh21 (talk) 21:07, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Great. I send one of the Geograph maintainers an email about the encoding issue. Multichill (talk) 20:46, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
@Bjh21: got a quick reply and a fix. First UTF8 fix, but that might include html entities:
So this was made:
Looks good so I updated my code to use the utf=2. Can you keep an eye on it? Multichill (talk) 11:33, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Upload of ship photos

Hello, I saw that you modified several of my input data. If there is anything which I can change during input, please inform me, so that I can consider this during the next inputs.--Wolfgang Fricke (talk) 19:49, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Change of name of image

Hi. Your bot recently started changing part of the image name submitted to Commons. For example: Ranunculus_acris_CR5_0075.jpg became: Ranunculus_acris_DSC_0075_(51073639066).jpg

Why the change from CR5 to DSC ? I now have no way to trace my images. Bengt Nyman (talk) 17:33, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

@Bengt Nyman: A file with the name Ranunculus_acris_CR5_0075.jpg was never uploaded to Commons. The file File:Ranunculus_acris_DSC_0075_(51073639066).jpg was never renamed. My bot doesn't rename files. What makes you think a change happened? You can see your uploads at Special:ListFiles/Bengt_Nyman. Multichill (talk) 17:39, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Coordinates on a pic

Thanks added some structured data on File:Ville-Marie Eglise Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire.jpg march 8, 2021. Unfortunately, the coordinates was not exacts. They positionned the church on a forest road. I made a correction and positionned the church at the right place. Thanks again, best regards. --Tad-Amie (talk) 20:55, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Renaming this file
