Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Module:License

It took me a while, but I began assembling Module:License, I will also try to add code for handling PD statements as described on Wikidata. --Jarekt alt (talk) 15:40, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

That's good news alternative Jarekt. I'll comment on Module talk:License. Multichill (talk) 10:57, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
My Alter ego is for situations where I have access to the web, but no access to my phone, so I can not log-in to my main account without 2-factor authorization or some other complicated procedures. --Jarekt (talk) 04:04, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

GLAM and batch uploads

Hi! Institution:Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen and some other GLAM are interessted in working together with Wikipedia and some Danish Wikipedians are trying to help batch upload files. Commons:GLAM have some tips to get started but we do not have many Danish Wikipedians that have done mass uploads.

The plan is to do something like File:En såret dansk kriger (1865 painting).jpg but the license template also request a United States public domain tag. And they have made an agreement with the photographers so instead of PD-Art to cover the copyright for the photo they would like to use Cc0. So instead of {{Artwork}} perhaps {{Art Photo}} is better because that would solve the problem of any copyright related to the photo. But what copyright tag would be good for the painting? {{PD-old-auto-expired|deathyear=1xxx}} or can you think of something better?

I know you use wikidata a lot so I found one of your uploads File:Coin of Caracalla, Roman Emperor, from Gabala, Yale University Art Gallery, inv. 1938.6000.1271 - YDEA - 139752.jpg to show them that wikidata can fill out all fields. I guess that if they can figure out how to put data in wikidata then uploading the files on Commons would be easier because then you do not need to add much info on Commons. Your bot would take care of structured data? --MGA73 (talk) 17:33, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

@MGA73: that's good news! Commons:Guide to batch uploading & Commons:Guide to content partnerships might also contain useful info (but might be slightly outdated).
To get the US part {{PD-old-auto-expired}} should be used instead of {{PD-old-auto}} ([1]).
It's good that the museum explicitly adds a license. We have the {{Licensed-PD-Art}} template for that. See for example {{Licensed-PD-Art|PD-old-auto-expired|cc-by-sa-4.0|deathyear=1915}} on File:Robert Hermann Raudner - Schleißheimer Linden - 8546 - Bavarian State Painting Collections.jpg.
My workflow is to first add the metadata to Wikidata (Q29941317). If the metadata is complete, this will trigger an upload. Currently only works for paintings and is described at d:Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Automated image uploads.
As you can see on File:Robert Hermann Raudner - Schleißheimer Linden - 8546 - Bavarian State Painting Collections.jpg, the artwork template is empty. Multichill (talk) 10:48, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! We have some good places to look for photos but the tricky part is that we lack users that knows how to mass upload. For example the Queen of Denmark just released 10.000 photos on https://kgl-fotosamling.kongernessamling.dk/login/welcome.jspx and I have an old idea of copying thousands of old maps from https://hkpn.gst.dk/ to Commons.
I think our guy working on "Statens Museum for Kunst" will like your tips with the licenses. And I think he likes wikidata too so if he can figure out how to do it right it should be great. --MGA73 (talk) 11:58, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

digital representation of (P6243)

Hi, I noticed that you removed some of these statements. So what should be the value for this property? The modeling page doesn't exit yet: Commons:Structured data/Modeling. Thanks, Yann (talk) 11:11, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

PYANN (PYann) In this case nothing because no item for the photo exists.
You might have missed why digital representation of (P6243) was created: To link a photo of a 2D artwork here to the item on Commons. For example to link File:Man in a Blue Cap - Jan van Eyck - Google Cultural Institute.jpg to Portrait of a Man with a Blue Chaperon (Q3553389). The usage on Commons has become a bit of a mess and it still needs to be cleaned up.
Probably best to use fabrication method (P2079) digital photography (Q173095) for these cases. Multichill (talk) 12:27, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
OK, but this property was used in this case File:Maison des têtes - statue du tonnelier alsacien (Colmar).jpg, which is not a 2D artwork, so I don't undertand the distinction with the "depicts" statement. And in this case File:Auto wreck, USA, 1923.jpg? Regards, Yann (talk) 12:44, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
@Yann: that's exactly the mess I'm talking about. For the second case: The target of digital representation of (P6243) should always be a specific instance, not a class of things like digital photograph (Q85431214) & gelatin silver print (Q64029133). Multichill (talk) 12:53, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
OK, I am cleaning these. For File:Auto wreck, USA, 1923.jpg, whould we have instance of (P31) or fabrication method (P2079) for gelatin silver print (Q64029133). I would like to be able to search all images of, say a place, which are either digital or not. Thanks, Yann (talk) 13:07, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
And that's where you hit the point why I haven't done that much for SDC in the last couple of months: Our search engine is still very incomplete. When a file here is linked to an item on Wikidata (using digital representation of (P6243) or some other method), it would be a bit stupid if we have to duplicate all depicts (P180) statements (we're not monkeys to quote Jean-Fred). The other day I was talking with Jarek about this on User_talk:Jarekt#Adding_more_structured_data_to_search. The basic idea is to add some more logic to Module:Artwork that grabs the relevant data from Wikidata (like depicts statements) and include it in the filepage here so that it turns up in search. We're not there yet, but it sure would be a lot better than to try to duplicate everything here. Multichill (talk) 13:20, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

Also would you main having a look at Commons talk:Structured data#CC-0 conflicts with PD statement? Thanks, Yann (talk) 11:22, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

I'll have a look and reply over there. Multichill (talk) 12:27, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
