Some value without a Wikidata item

Hi Multichill, Could you please look at edits like this [1]. It seems like something is wrong. The information does also not show up under structured data.--Schlurcher (talk) 19:32, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

@Schlurcher: the developers of structured data on Commons decided to build an interface of their own instead of using the one active on Wikidata. This part hasn't been implemented yet. The open task is phab:T239172. Maybe you can leave a note over there? Multichill (talk) 19:48, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm just starting to learn wikidata and SDC, so I'm not too sure what is discussed there. I'll have a further look. --Schlurcher (talk) 20:39, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
The quick summary: Structured data has two parts:
  • The database part. This is the software called WikiBase also used by Wikidata. We use a modified version here on Commons. The Wikibase part comes with an API which robots and the user interface can use to interact with the database.
  • The user interface part. That part is far from feature complete
My robot is talking directly with the database through the API and the user interface hasn't caught up yet. Multichill (talk) 20:43, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Unknown value as creator

I have a hunch that edits of this type is plain wrong and should be fixed. You state that the author is unknown, but that is not the case, you just didn't do proper research to find the correct item. Can you please pause your bot and make sure this is not repeated into thousands or millions of statements? Ainali (talk) 17:33, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

It's not "unknown", it's "some value", that's something quite different and not incorrect. It's a wiki, feel free to improve items. Multichill (talk) 18:35, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
I apologize, the translation to Swedish for "some value" was wrong in Translatewiki (literally unknown value). I have fixed it now. Thanks for helping me spot it! Ainali (talk) 22:34, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
The translation and usage seem to be mix on the scale from (for persons): "we know who it is, but haven't found the item for the person" to "no clue who this is". In the future we should have SPARQL than it should be easy to replace these statements if we want to. At the moment I'd rather not do that on a large scale because I don't want to encourage vanity items. I'm still silently hoping for the magic data type which accepts items, url's and strings.... Appologies for jumping in. Could someone direct me to where it is possible to change/propose a change for the translation of "some value". The German translation is also off. It back-translates to "unknown value" not "some value without a wikidata item". Which also lead to my question a couple of threads above. --Schlurcher (talk) 08:13, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi Multichill, I have some questions, too. ;-) When I look at the bot's changes, e.g. diff, I see a lot of informations about "creator". But when I look at the description page and open the "Structured data" tab, the entry "creator" is empty. Is this normal?
And additional: Would it be reasonable to have Creator:Steffen Prößdorf oder d:Q58323561 there? And if yes, is there a possibility for me, to change all my files in my usercat with VisualFileChange? Sorry for bugging you... Regards, --Stepro (talk) 00:48, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

So the interface hasn't really caught up yet. When it's done, it should properly show it. The task for that is phab:T239172.
As mentioned above, I currently don't add items for creator (P170) because I don't want to encourage vanity items. In the future we should have SPARQL for structured data on Commons (see phab:T141602). This should make it really easy to find and replace these cases. Please give it some time. Hi Multichill, bedankt voor je ping. Dat sjabloon is hier automatisch geplaatst door mijn nominatie (lang leve scripts). Het verhaal is iets gecompliceerder dan het lijkt. Zoals je weet is OTRS informatie vertrouwelijk dus ik kan niet veel meer zeggen dan dat de originele fotograaf geen toestemming had gegeven voor de vrijgave. In deze tijd hadden we deze vorm van toestemming ook niet geaccepteerd, ik heb het originele ticket uiteraard eerst gezien. Overigens was Ciell ook op de hoogte.
