Photo I took

Hi ! Could you verify the date of this painting ? Wikidata states that it was done in 1889 but several files have metadata with 1887. Thanks ! Léna (talk) 10:30, 26 November 2018 (UTC)

I checked the book and it says April 1889. @Slowking4: where did you get the date (May-July 1887) from File:Vincent van gogh coin de jardin avec papillons).jpg? The link https://www.christies.com/lotfinder/paintings/vincent-van-gogh-coin-de-jardin-avec-6169506-details.aspx seems to be broken. I did find https://www.christies.com/features/Van-Gogh-Coin-de-jardin-avec-papillons-9423-3.aspx , but it's a bit weird the lot disappeared from their site. i'm just cutting & pasting the metadata from the source, Christie's [1]. (wayback machine link rotted, the auction houses are not archiving, so i am sweeping though to get the thumbnails, while we can) i think we need to reflect the conflicting data, but would not privilege the auction house. i imagine the museum has better scholarship. cheers. @Léna: I just realized I took a photo of this painting at an exhibition in the Van Gogh Museum. Of course I took a photo of the card next to it. It lists it as 1887. I'll probably contact the museum to figure it out. Multichill (talk) 15:23, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Please make a ajustment to you boot

Right now the files is saved in Category:Statens Museum for Kunst please make a change so there are saved in Category:Paintings in Statens Museum for Kunst. --Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 16:08, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

My bot follows the standard naming convention for categories to find where to place it and Category:Paintings in the Statens Museum for Kunst doesn't seem to exist. Where did the "the" go?
The current logic is to get the Commons category ("Statens Museum for Kunst"), look for "paintings in the <category>" (Category:Paintings in the Statens Museum for Kunst) and fallback to the Commons category (Category:Statens Museum for Kunst). I'll add the "paintings in <category>" (Category:Paintings in Statens Museum for Kunst) as an in between fallback. Multichill (talk) 16:16, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

Multilingual captions beta testing

The Structured Data on Commons team has begun beta testing of the first feature, multilingual file captions, and all community members are invited to test it out. Captions is based on designs discussed with the community[2][3] and the team is looking forward to hearing about testing. If all goes well during testing, captions will be turned on for Commons around the second week of January, 2019.

Multilingual captions are plain text fields that provide brief, easily translatable details of a file in a way that is easy to create, edit, and curate. Captions are added during the upload process using the UploadWizard, or they can be added directly on any file page on Commons. Adding captions in multiple languages is a simple process that requires only a few steps.

The details:

  • There is a help page available on how to use multilingual file captions.
  • Testing will take place on Beta Commons. If you don’t yet have an account set up there, you’ll need one.
  • Beta Commons is a testbed, and not configured exactly like the real Commons site, so expect to see some discrepancies with user interface (UI) elements like search.
  • Structured Data introduces the potential for many important page changes to happen at once, which could flood the recent changes list. Because of this, Enhanced Recent Changes is enabled as it currently is at Commons, but with some UI changes.
  • Feedback and commentary on the file caption functionality are welcome and encouraged on the discussion page for this post.
  • Some testing has already taken place and the team are aware of some issues. A list of known issues can be seen below.
  • If you discover a bug/issue that is not covered in the known issues, please file a ticket on Phabricator and tag it with the “Multimedia” tag. Use this link to file a new task already tagged with "Multimedia."
