Importing localisation messages

Hi Multichill, I'm trying to import a bunch of localisation messages from Wikimedia Commons to http://commonsarchive.org in an efficient manner. I thought it would be as simple as importing pages from the MediaWiki namespace, which I can extract from a dump, but it appears each message also has a "default" value and I have no idea where that information is stored or how to import it. I'm talking about the localisation messages for Template:Information, Template:cc-by-3.0, etc. such as MediaWiki:wm-license-information-description. These didn't appear to be included with the current base distro of MediaWiki - after importing those templates only the message names showed in <angle brackets>. Ah. Angle brackets mean the message isn't defined. Those messages are special group called "Wikimedia License Texts" (translatewiki) - I guess those are not baked into MediaWiki. Problem! I don't know the answer - you need someone more familiar with translatewiki. If Multichill doesn't answer, try Category:MediaWiki translators. Rd232 (talk) 07:43, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
