Deleted, seems we already had a complaint about it in OTRS #2008031710019876. Article was deleted but the image was not deleted :-( Multichill (talk) 15:34, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Any chance you will update User:Multichill/No country at some point? Thanks. Wknight94 talk 01:46, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

✓ Done, it's huuuuge. Multichill (talk) 14:18, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Wow, I wasn't expecting immediate satisfaction ---- but thanks! (I guess). Wknight94 talk 14:42, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Just had to fire up a bot. Looks like I have another bot to make the list a bit shorter. I'll run it in a moment (takes some time to compile the data). Multichill (talk) 15:13, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
See Special:Contributions/BotMultichill. Multichill (talk) 15:59, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Even better. Then after bot #2 adds cats based on the list from bot #1, you can re-run bot #1 to see what is left I assume? Wknight94 talk 18:53, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
That bot did a fantastic job that would take me weeks. Highly recommended to rerun Bot 1 and rerun them once a week or so. --Foroa (talk) 19:00, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Definitely. Wknight94 talk 19:02, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
More fun at User:Multichill/By country to fix. It also produced a script to do the actual fixing. I'll have to go over it before I run it to remove some errors. Multichill (talk) 22:09, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Bot is running. Multichill (talk) 11:20, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Good work as usual, but I noticed some of those aren't countries, like Category:Geography of Saint-Barthélemy. Rocket000 (talk) 22:08, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Probably because it's categorized as a country - both here and at en.wp. No idea why. Wknight94 talk 23:15, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
My bot uses User:Multichill/Countries. I think I based that list on enwp, but I'm not sure. Multichill (talk) 08:18, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Multichill! is it okay to delete that category since it is empty now? Amada44 (talk) 11:16, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Sure, I deleted the category. Multichill (talk) 12:53, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

I always

Thought that at WP en and commons - a simple courtesy would be to talk to the user first. Then if it wasnt something of an issue - I just happen to have application for admin - I must say that I always thought applying anything on a users page or template actually has the modicum of talk first and then do after? I do try to understand the whims and the intricate subtleties of the differences between the two places - but I thought the Be bold! principle for WP in general had died many years ago :) SatuSuro (talk) 08:50, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Actually that is probably a very perverse way of saying thank you very much for that :) SatuSuro (talk) 08:54, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
If you use a user page as a template I don't consider it a user page anymore. Be bold never died here at Commons, I converted dozens of custom templates to use the standard building blocks. Custom templates are generally ugly, break uniformity and, most importantly, break translations. Most users don't know about this and don't know how to build a template based on the standard templates, so I just do it for them. Multichill (talk) 08:57, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

license templates

Multichill, please discuss before changing licensing templates the template complies with Commons Policies, I have reverted. Gnangarra 09:19, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

See #I always. About now is the time you say sorry. Multichill (talk) 09:22, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
[1] you made the changes before the discussion occured, you should never alter licensing of any images without prior discussion. I see that SatuSuro has reverted, by that I'll assume he's is happy with the changes. Gnangarra 09:43, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
Alter licensing? Did you bother to compare the old and the new template? If you would have, you would have seen that the license is exactly the same. Multichill (talk) 09:48, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
I took the change as a good faith edit, and hope you guys understand that I see nothing wrong with it - I now thank you both for your concern and trust it is ok to leave as now SatuSuro (talk) 09:58, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Borobodur

'sfunny that I was getting my son and I our tea and I was thinking I must cleanup the superfluous cats, I get back on and youve done it thanks - seems when the Tropenmuseum downloard (while I was overseas) happened some odd cats showed up at times... SatuSuro (talk) 11:39, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Oh dear I am getting bot envy - on mainspace Wp en, and here all my edits have been by hand - never a bot have I touched - and watching this just now makes me wonder :) SatuSuro (talk) 11:42, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
BTW you must never take my nederlands jokes or put downs a la as a Javanese researcher and 'orang belands' too seriously either :( - if you were able to do what you just do - the borobudur reliefs inside the borobodur category - are you partial to removing parent/child cat combos - or do you leave em sitting hand in hand...? SatuSuro (talk) 11:47, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
Another - locality - I prefer not to have either magelang or central java as a parallel cat - I would prefer just Borobudur reliefs - the locality is in the parent cat - do you agree with such an idea? SatuSuro (talk) 11:49, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
My bot filters of over-categorization so parent categories will be removed. I still plan on running the bot on all Tropenmuseum images, not sure when I'm going to do that though, still have another batch (or two) coming up. Multichill (talk) 11:55, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
Excellent if your bot in principle agrees with parent cat child cat combo cleanup I know what I can do - thanks for your help SatuSuro (talk) 11:58, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
You can also order my bot to do work for you (some strange results, that's because the database I use is lagging).
Please come say hi on irc. There's more fun stuff you can use :-) Multichill (talk) 12:23, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
Could you please have a look at the remaining items that sit at Borobudur - I am very cuious about the lantern slide items, and on my talk page I have left a memo to myself about some files with issues - I would be very interested to know how you would resolve the issues that seem to arise from them - It would be indeed a learning experience and all of course... :) SatuSuro (talk) 03:02, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Further: The hidden Borobudur items in the larger cats Java, Central Java, Magelang, and Kedu have - in the main been caught- however the Buddha statues with total separation (they all look like studio shots) that are in the Java category are sub category items of the Borobudur Buddha statues category - probably worth knowing as Borobudur Buddha statues - removed items as I am 85% sure they are not on site anymore - and it would also encompass other vandalised/stolen/removed items that are in pictures SatuSuro (talk) 02:52, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Brilliant - at my research site in Java - the whole issue of offerings was taken very seriously! some javanese call their offerings sesajen - hey good to see your work can find stuff like that, anthropologically speaking offerings have been a fundamental essential issue of many Balinese and Javanese lives for centuries SatuSuro (talk) 15:33, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Guantanamo images

I came across a category new to me half an hour or so ago: Category:Images from US Navy, location GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba. All the images in it seem to have been uploaded by your bot.

I recognized some of them as higher resolution versions of image I had already uploaded -- like File:USCG target practice -- Guantanamo -b.jpg and File:US Navy 090702-F-8130W-019 U.S. Coast Guardsmen assigned to Maritime Safety and Security Team (MSST) 91101 fire a .40-caliber machine gun during moving live-fire qualifications.jpg.

I won't claim to be the wisest or cleverest at picking new categories. I uploaded a couple of hundred Guantanamo images, and created a dozen or so categories.

Ideally we would have an automated method to figure out when new images were larger versions of existing images.

Do you have any ideas as to how to automatically get your fine new images to use the categories assigned to previously existing versions?

Can your bot be given a list of DoD urls, and automatically upload the image found there?

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 03:14, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

These Guantanamo images were taken by servicemen and women from all the US armed services. Your bot has been marking them all as Navy images. I have been marking them using the tag of whatever service employed the photographer. Which do you think is the best approach?
I was going to put an Army tag on File:US Navy 070706-A-4074M-007 Capt. Bruce C. Meneley, center, relieves Capt. Ronald L. Sollock, left, as commander of U.S. Naval Hospital and Joint Task Force (JTF) Guantanamo Bay Joint Medical Group during a change of command cer.jpg -- but then thought I should discuss this with you first.
Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 04:02, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi Geo Swan, you brought up some good points. I will try to answer them later this week. Multichill (talk) 19:46, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Won't be having time for this soon. When I'll continue with the batch uploads for the army/navy/air force/etc, i'll have a look at this. If I have the id (virin) of an image I should be able to derive the right branch. Multichill (talk) 17:47, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Category intersect by bot

Hi Multichill, it might be possible to improve the results if the bot would work slightly differently, e.g. for Category:Parks in County Antrim, a request like [2] would give 2 results that could be moved from Category:Parks in Northern Ireland to Category:Parks in County Antrim. We might want to exclude the non geograph result though. -- User:Docu at 16:41, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Sample result
More advanced bots would of course be nice. I have plenty of ideas looks like you too. I just won't be implementing them anytime soon. Maybe someone else feels like writing something? Multichill (talk) 17:49, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Template "Intersect categories" works very well

It cannot be all bad news. {{Intersect categories}} is a real time saver as one can see here. --Foroa (talk) 14:34, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Yes, every once in a while I do something useful ;-)
Thanks for your note. Multichill (talk) 17:53, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Re: Food!

Hello Multichill! Thanks for executing the Cyclonebill bot job. I've now finished categorizing (and adding descriptions when necessary). He didn't stop uploading great photos. Can you upload the newest photos in an easy way? Regards, Nils PS: If it is not hard, please add the Category:Photos by cyclonebill to all old/new photos in addition to the maintanence category. Nillerdk (talk) 14:39, 25 February 2010 (UTC) Addition: I will ask MGA73 too add the category to "old" photos. Nillerdk (talk) 14:41, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

I'll have a look at it. Multichill (talk) 17:57, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello, here is what the en wiki page (in the interwiki section of the category) says :

Tjokorda Gde Raka Soekawati (new spelling: Cokorda Gde Raka Sukawati), (born January 15, 1899 in Ubud, Gianyar, Bali) was the only President of the State of East Indonesia from 1946 to its disestablishment in 1950.

I do not know what has happened to this category since I made it. I understand that the current state of affair is bad. Sukawati seems to be the family name of several politicians of Indonesia, but I am quite confused about all this. My aim when I created this category was to give a home category for several images in the Tropenmuseum collection, depicting one and the same man. I do not know enough to be able to sort this mess up, sorry..

Yours, Frédéric (talk) 19:06, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Looks like someone fixed it for us :-) Multichill (talk) 18:04, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Beeldengeluidwiki

Beste Multichill,

Multichill (talk) 18:09, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

PBB-images

Hi! It looks like almost 50 images have been transfered to Commons "badly" [4]. Perhaps you could transfer them (again) to get it done properly? I only checked 3 of them and they were transfered manually. --MGA73 (talk) 12:52, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps it is not a mistake. See en:Portal:Gene_Wiki/Discussion#Duplicates.3F. --MGA73 (talk) 20:05, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
I think all these images need manual checking, Multichill (talk) 18:10, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Bot request

Please could you remove Category:Central Java from the Category:Borobudur reliefs articles please? SatuSuro (talk) 03:55, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Gosh the more I check across categories - the more Borobudur images I find - it must be the most photographed item in Central Java over a hundred years span - there are enough separate photos for quite a few more discriminating categories SatuSuro (talk) 04:10, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that - I have chosen to do all the hidden reliefs manually - (Relief o xxx) - as there are multiple issues - a long conversation is needed about some of the Borobudur articles some time - cheers SatuSuro (talk) 23:24, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
In case you didn't notice: I'm filtering all Tropenmusuem images right now. Multichill (talk) 18:34, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Multichill, is the upload of that images from D66 still allowed or did they change their policy? Note the reupload of the image. IMO today their disclaimer reads different, the link to the press images is not for no reason a link to an archived website. However, I dont know Dutch and cant find out if there are still free images on their site. --Martin H. (talk) 09:16, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

I seriously doubt it. Multichill (talk) 18:34, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Asserting copyright on PD-old work

Do you think files such as File:WLANL - E V E - Cafe dame Van Gogh Museum.jpg should really be licensed that way? We normally call that PD-old (or PD-Art if it isn't self-made). I don't think asserting copyright is right when we don't accept that from third-parties. Also, the painter, not the photographer, should be considered the author, right? Rocket000 (talk) 01:15, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Over time stuff becomes PD. If you're sure the painting is PD you should change the license to PD-art. Multichill (talk) 18:36, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

That's because the module isn't installed at the Toolserver. You would also need X to get stuff working on the Toolserver. You can only run in autonomous mode at the Toolserver (for now). Multichill (talk) 18:37, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Galleries without wikipedia links

Hello Multichill, there is a hughe number of galleries of flora/faune at special pages Galleries without wikipedia links http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:WithoutInterwiki; these have same scientific name at en-wiki; could you make a bot to search the corresponding english articles and to add wikilinks to the commons galleries?--Havang(nl) (talk) 22:13, 7 February 2010 (UTC) P.S.:old problem also: Category:Universities and colleges by type. --Havang(nl) (talk) 19:09, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

The question is where to link exactly when a category and an article both exist. Multichill (talk) 19:50, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Pleased to see you back after a small wikibreak. In the wikipedias, a commonspage-interwiki and a commonscat-template are complementory possibilities; in commons, both backlinking to wiki's is less obvious, indeed. But because the page gallerie without wikipedia links exist, it can be cleaned from 90% of its content, making the list better treatable, I think. It's of low importance, anyhow.--Havang(nl) (talk) 22:39, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Ah, galleries. I would recommend doing something with Commons sum-it-up if possible. You should probabably go to the bot request page. How I would solve it:
  1. Do a toolserver query to find galleries with pages with the same name.
  2. Loop over the galleries and copy all the interwiki's from the enwp page.
Multichill (talk) 17:43, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the message. There seems to be a bot running sometimes now, adapting thousands of pages. --Havang(nl) (talk) 22:16, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Foto online

Foto!

Hee!
