First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Category:Rimessa Ferroviaria di Pistoia[edit]

AFAIK il Deposito Locomotive è stato chiuso intorno al 1995, diventando Deposito Rotabili Storici (nome che tra l'altro non so se è ancora quello ufficiale, dato che lo si trova spesso indicato come "rimessa rotabili storici" o altre denominazioni), per cui nemmeno quello sarebbe il nome corretto. Su questo possiamo usare la terminologia che preferite.
Non sono d'accordo per la traduzione, invece. non mi risultano convenzioni sulla traduzione dei nomi, e ci sono molti altri casi in cui si usano i nomi locali (Category:Railway_depots_in_the_Czech_Republic, Category:Railway_depots_in_Germany solo per stare nel settore, ma se guardi chiese e musei i casi sono migliaia).
Se vuoi rinominiamo in Deposito Rotabili Storici (poi però riunifichiamo le categorie, eh), ma la traduzione mi sembra forzata.--Jollyroger (talk) 20:51, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Milan trams[edit]

I have added a new category: Milan tramway outside city limits. To have a link with the Milan trams as this tramline is stil part of the urban tramnetwork and not suburban, where there are special categories.Smiley.toerist (talk) 19:32, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia[edit]

Ciao, volevo avvisarti che smetto di editare (da anonimo) su wikipedia. Anche oggi ho ricevuto la mia solita dose di insulti da parte di Musicante91; poi Larry Yuma ha inserito in tutte le linee napoletane il template "servizio di trasporto pubblico" che andrebbe usato per tram e filobus; poi Anthos rimuove per l'ennesima volta un template "senza fonti" (lui le fonti non le porta mai, probabilmente non ne è in grado di comprenderne il senso [1]). Non solo, fa ripicche continue [2] (probabilmente in questo caso non è in grado di comprendere che la voce è tradotta).
In più, le discussioni al progetto trasporti sono ormai tutte senza fine, non ci sono criteri, né linee guida, né stima reciproca. Trovo tutto veramente desolante e mi cadono le braccia.
Scusa per questo che forse è un saluto, forse uno sfogo, ma veramente non pensavo che questo ambiente potrebbe essere così brutto. O forse sono io che la vedo troppo male?--Friedrichstrasse (talk) 21:46, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ciao, non capisco perchè hai segnalato il file Fuc-ferr.PNG come violazione del copyright. Essa non era altro che una foto scattata ad un particolare della fiancata dalla locomotiva E190 delle FUC. OTRS Pedretti[edit]

Ti ringrazio, ma necessito ancora di qualche chiarimento: detto che Alessio mi ha esplicitamente chiesto di occuparmene io perché non ha tempo (gli avevo appunto domandato se avrebbe potuto fare direttamente lui), ho ritenuto che il caricamento di un'immagine rilasciando i diritti appropriati e indicando l'autore fosse appunto la procedura corretta nel caso di immagini personalmente detenuta. Avevo infatti inteso che il rilascio del ticket OTRS fosse relativo ad immagini liberamente disponibili in rete ancorché soggette al rilascio delle relative autorizzazioni. Mi rispondo in parte da solo ma necessito ancora del tuo aiuto: leggendo le note sembra che io debba apporre una sorta di tag di "attesa" e che Alessio debba inviare all'indirizzo indicato un'email in cui dichiara esplicitamente il rilascio dei diritti: riesci (so di abusare della tua pazienza, ma sono notoriamente impertinente e posso produrti valide scuse) ad inviarmi giusto due righe da inviare ad Alessio perché le inoltri al posto giusto, ed a condizionare conseguentemente le due foto uploadate?
