Issue[edit]

Hi. Your image of population density has Colorado and Wyoming switched. You may want to update the image. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Population_Scaled_US_Map.svg — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 153.90.118.166 (talk) 17:35, 04 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I've uploaded a new version to fix the mixup. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 20:19, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Korean People's Army[edit]

Is it possible for you to create File:Flag of the North Korean People's Army.svg using File:Flag of the Korean People's Army Ground Force.svg based on this: [1]. Korean text is "조국의통일독립과" on top and "인민의자유와행복을위하여" on the bottom. Also, ignore the emblem below the 4.25.

Is it also possible to set the same file to be created to be set as the flag to be used in the page Korean People's Army Ground Force?

Is it also possible for File:Flag of the Korean People's Navy.svg and File:NKAF flag.svg to be created based on the requested File:Flag of the North Korean People's Army.svg? For Korean People's Navy [2] and for Korean People's Air and Anti-Air Force [3]. --Migs005 01:05, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Migs005: Hi, sorry for the late reply. I haven't been ignoring the request but have been a little bit confused, since it seems like this request is identical to the flags I worked on last year. These are the flags I worked on:
If these are not correct, or require further corrections, please let me know. I know that, looking at them, at least one of these had the font updated after I published the initial version. The source I used for the flags were the existing representations on Wikimedia and a high-resolution raster file which wasn't complete. The Hangul looks correct to me but I'm not literate in Korean.
Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 20:49, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't notice that you already have those files already. I think these files could be updated using the new KPA flags files and with an updated font. Also, the Hangul on your files is correct. --Migs005 01:51, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The administrator depicted the logo as unfree in US and UK. Shall you delete File:Alphago logo Reversed.svg, File:Alphago logo Outlines.svg, and File:Alphago logo Original.svg from Commons? --George Ho (talk) 02:17, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I wanted to say sorry to corrected the file discussed in Commons:Graphic_Lab/Illustration_workshop#Can_the_labeling_of_this_diagram_be_fixed_at_all?, after you said you will do it, I was a bit unpolite. You did a great work, I just wanted to repair the file, since I knew how to repair it without redrawing.  — Johannes Kalliauer - Talk | Contributions 07:22, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@JoKalliauer: I did not take offense. I redrew the map not just to resolve the bug but so that I could practice editing radius curves. Thank you for fixing the original file and pointing out the font kerning bug, which also affects the station names in Caltrain map.svg - would it be possible for you to fix this one as well? I tried by redrawing it three years ago and gave up. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 21:57, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

AEM-7 categories[edit]

I don't think there's any need to create separate categories for individual AEM-7 locomotives (except for #915, because it has become a museum piece). Separating into these subcategories doesn't provide any benefit, and in fact makes it more difficult to find useful images. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 04:16, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. It's one thing if the individual locomotives are uniquely decorated, like the PCCs in San Francisco, but the AEM-7s of Amtrak are mostly indistinguishable if the number is covered up. I've "reverted" the change by copying the files back out into the parent category. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 17:09, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I can go ahead and delete the individual categories, then (and same with the MARC AEM-7 cats) unless you have strong objections. It may be worth making a category for #945; it sounds like it's headed for the Illinois Railway Museum. (Sorry about the roll back, btw - Commons loads weirdly on mobile and it's easy to accidentally hit rollback instead of diff). Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:10, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - according to Trains it sounds like IRM is getting 945, but I don't have access behind that paywall (and the other sources available through Google all point to amateur/railfan YouTube videos showing 945 en route). Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 20:14, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Category:SVG symbols of municipalities in XXX Prefecture[edit]

Please move Category:SVG symbols of municipalities in XXX Prefecture back to Category:SVG emblems of municipalities in XXX Prefecture. Ideally, within Category:Symbols of municipalities in XXX Prefecture (should be empty but right now they're full of emblem files) there should be 2 subcategories: Category:Emblems of municipalities in XXX Prefecture and Category:Flags of municipalities in XXX Prefecture; and within each of them the corresponding SVG subcategory. Category:Symbols of municipalities in Kagoshima prefecture is an example. Also, if you had time, please move the files within Category:Symbols of municipalities in XXX Prefecture to the subcategory Category:Emblems of municipalities in XXX Prefecture. There are just too many to move. Thank you. --Xeror (talk) 11:00, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Xeror: Please check c:Category:Symbols of municipalities in Hyogo prefecture to see if this meets what you are describing above. I read the request above as saying the structure should be:
  • Symbols of municipalities in XXX Prefecture (meta category only using {{metacat}}, should contain no files)
    • Emblems of municipalities in XXX Prefecture
      • SVG emblems of municipalities in XXX Prefecture
    • Flags of municipalities in XXX Prefecture
      • SVG flags of municipalities in XXX Prefecture
    • Symbols of YYY, XXX (specific sub-categories for major municipalities named YYY in XXX Prefecture)
Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 14:15, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, exactly. Although IMHO Symbols of YYY aren't necessary, probably won't work for Tokyo Metropolis and too much work to me. Thanks for pointing out c:Help:Gadget-Cat-a-lot to me. I didn't know that existed. And thanks for helping me to organize the categories. Cheers, --Xeror (talk) 16:39, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Off topic: when you vectorize an emblem, could you name it Emblem of <City/Town/Village>, <Prefecture>.svg? Or even request to rename the old ones? "Chapter" has been a mistranslation used in many file names because of the shared same kanji of both words in Japanese. I've been requesting to rename them back to "Emblem" restlessly and some of the requests even got rejected lol. Cheers, --Xeror (talk) 18:59, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Transbay Tube Route (1).svg[edit]

Would you be able to edit this image to more accurately show the approach to San Francisco? Elizabeth K. Joseph and other Muni images[edit]

I encourage you to be a bit more selective when transferring flickr images of Muni streetcars, especially those by Elizabeth K. Joseph. We have more than enough good images of almost every Muni heritage streetcar (mostly thanks to your efforts!); indiscriminately adding more images, especially those of mediocre quality, doesn't really have any benefit for Commons. Would you be offended if I pared down some of the images of #496 that you transferred in late February? A number of them are weird interior shots or too distant to be much use. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:13, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi.1415926535: Not at all - please prune images as you see fit. I tend to err on the side of inclusiveness, but after trying to organize Buildings in Chinatown, San Francisco, to say nothing of my own flickr account (same username), I understand what a huge task it is to keep a database of images organized. Thanks again for your contributions. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 02:00, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Bayshore Cutoff map.svg[edit]

You've done a really nice job on this. However, I'm not sure about some of the station locations. You have Valencia too far to the west - at Dolores rather than Valencia - and Elkton too far north (it was at Ocean Avenue). Oceanview was at Sickles, and Rup near Naglee; Rup was mostly a freight station without regular passenger service. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:33, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! This makes a lot more sense, spacing-wise, as well. I based the locations on the tiny illustration in Hofsommer (Hofsommer, Don L. (1986) The Southern Pacific: 1901 – 1985, College Station: Texas A&M University Press, p. 18 Retrieved on 20 May 2018. ISBN: 978-1-60344-127-8. ), which necessarily omits details of the street grid. The image has been updated with your corrections. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 15:32, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Looks great! My source is When Steam Ran on the Streets of San Francisco which is a bit hard to find, but highly recommended. The David Rumsey collection also has a number of old maps that may be helpful. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 03:44, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for your help. I had an opportunity to see the Roundhouse today (an official tour was being given by Universal Paragon, the current owner of the Bayshore Yard and landfill) and spoke with Cris Hart (sanfranciscotrains.org) and Walter Boland (son of Fred Boland, http://wx4.org/sp_employees/pages/people/boland/bio.html) ... I guess that makes me a little bit of a foamer. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 03:51, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Muni Metro with CS.svg[edit]

Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:59, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi.1415926535: Thanks for the tweaks - as you can tell from the history of that file, it takes a lot of iterations to get it right. I didn't realize that so many stations had been closed since 2016; I occasionally ride with my kids from Wawona/46th (free parking on Sloat!) to Embarcadero and it sure feels like we stop at every. single. intersection. The in-progress construction picture at Irving & 6th also looks like a high platform will be built. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 14:42, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much! The L Taraval project is quite an undertaking. I did miss one - en:Taraval and 19th Avenue station will also be getting high-level platforms. This 2014 document lists the 6th Avenue high-levels as possible, but I don't know if the plan has changed since. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:55, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Taraval & 19th has been included, and I relocated West Portal's label into some unused white space. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 23:37, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
