The image you wrote about

[edit]

Hiya: There was nothing in your email private so let's talk here instead, it takes less time.

Hi Ellin, I made a number of additions to the wikipedia page on Salavat Fidai (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salavat_Fidai). I noticed today that you removed a few of the images including a photograph of him, Starry night on a pumpkin seed, and Van Gogh on a matchbox. However, these were all published to Flickr with a Public Domain Mark. Here is one of the primary sources of the image: (https://www.flickr.com/photos/148436090@N05/33867275932/) Can you please explain why the images were deleted? I was under the impression that images uploaded to the public domain are available for upload to wikimedia and wikipedia. Thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mitterman (talk • contribs) .
Hiya: That image was "identified with the Creative Commons "Public Domain Mark". Unlike CC0 or the other Creative Commons licenses, the Public Domain Mark is not a legal instrument; there is no accompanying legal code or agreement. Instead, the Public Domain Mark is a tool that allows anyone to mark a work that they believe to be free of known copyright restrictions. However, it does not say why the image is in public domain and this part has to be added by the user." [1] The other images were not marked PD0. Cheers! Thank you! That explains the issue. Will ask the creator to change the photograph settings on Flickr to a more appropriate license. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mitterman (talk • contribs) 05:11, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

When you do, let me know, and I can undelete those two images. Ellin Beltz (talk) 14:34, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Ellin. There were three images that were deleted. The licenses have been changed on flickr to the CC-ShareAlike license. Do you mind undeleting the images? Thank you! Mitterman (talk) 05:35, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
File:Salavat Fidai.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
