Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Modifications still needed regarding the mass deletion request of your uploads

I've spent some time reviewing your recent changes and withdrawn some nominations. A bunch of files still require attention though. Specifically it is unclear how "M Chan" gave permission to release their files, and under which license. For example https://www.flickr.com/photos/196888765@N05/53361179871/ shows "Released to Public Domain under CC BY 4.0" which doesn't make sense. A few military files still show a CC license instead of the correct PD license. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 14:16, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

Okay - just so we're both aware of the dynamic here - you're asking me to edit details, in a comment, on an image sharing platform that's outside of wikimedia. Do you see how that's problematic and no longer collegial? Maybe you're not sensing that. MatthewDalhousie (talk) 23:47, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
I mean, in this instance, I've gone ahead and made the change, but I don't think you can keep this up. This is becoming adversarial and somewhat domineering. MatthewDalhousie (talk) 23:49, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
I probably didn't make myself clear. I'm not asking you to modify another website, I'm just stating that the license is unclear due to it being advertised under both Creative Commons and Public Domain on Flickr. This needs to be sorted out. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 03:08, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
VRT has received correspondence confirming the file's license; please see its description page. — Frostly (talk) 06:08, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
Appears to have been sorted out, yes; thanks @Frostly - MatthewDalhousie (talk) 23:52, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

Testing.

Thanks for uploading File:2RAR soldiers, Mark Wales in foreground, Bononaro, Timor-Leste 2001 cr MW (cropped).jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

File copyright status

Information icon Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. While everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the project, one or more of your file uploads had missing or false information regarding its source and copyright status. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their source is clearly documented. Files that fail to meet those conditions may be deleted, and users who fail to meet them may be blocked. Please follow our first steps, if you haven't already. If you have questions, feel free to ask at the Village Pump copyright question page or on my talk page. Thank you. You are responsible for everything you upload.  — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:29, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

Hey @Jeff G.! Really grateful for your note. I have made some errors of details with uploads in the past, but that's made me more determined to get things right recently. (I remain embarrassed that I hadn't got the distinction between creative commons and public domain correct. Also, I hadn't realised that, when I have a public domain image on a given Flickr account, that using the Flickr wizard assumes that I account's identity is the photographer. My mistakes. I have tried to correct for that by avoiding the Flickr approach entirely, getting permissions from the actual photographers by finding their emails and writing to them personally.) Hope it's okay if I take you through those steps - as I'm keen for feedback and, if, I have done things right, to have your support! MatthewDalhousie (talk) 02:34, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
I would really like your guidance and support on the state of the following images please! If you could let me know any practical steps I should be taking, I would really appreciate it.

MatthewDalhousie (talk) 03:27, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

1. Bononaro image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2RAR_soldiers,_Mark_Wales_in_foreground,_Bononaro,_Timor-Leste_2001_cr_MW_(cropped).jpg - I believe the photographer gave the relevant permissions to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org and you'll be able to inspect this at ticket #2024032010001401. I've followed the protocols, can this image okayed?
2. Shoreline image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2RAR_soldiers,_PNRS_196,_with_Mark_Wales,_Guadacanal_shoreline,_Solomon_Islands_cr_MW_2003_(cropped).jpg - again, I believe the photographer gave and you'll be able to inspect this at ticket #2024032010001401. Again, I've taken the right steps I believe and would like the image to stay on.
3. Midshot image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mark_Wales_midshot_portrait_credit_Jarrad_Seng_2020.jpg - the photographer, Jarrad Seng, wrote to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org on 13 March 2024 giving permission and i think that the correspondence is available to trusted volunteers as ticket #2024031310004395. This image uploaded correctly and legitimately, please tell me if you can see any error I have made.
4. GG image
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:20210443-07_Wallace_Governor_General_credit_David_Foote_released_CC_BY-SA_4.0.jpg is an image where the photographer has given their okay verbally, but is delayed in making informing permissions-commons@wikimedia.org - can I simply have a couple of weeks please?
5. NASA image
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:20230204_-1746668_credit_David_Foote_released_CC_BY-SA_4.0.jpg likewise is delayed, if I may have some time please?
MatthewDalhousie (talk) 03:24, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Update - am told that the permissions emails regarding items 4 and 5 above have been sent today. Thanks for your patience. MatthewDalhousie (talk) 05:39, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
Sadly, I don't have access to those permissions email messages any more, we will just have to wait for each one. If you had asked each of those copyright holders to carbon copy you on their permissions email messages, you would have been better informed.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:19, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
