Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Why move? It's not listed by Historic England as such and its Wikipedia article says "Our Lady's Row" is an aka. Source? Discussion? My family and I come from York since the early 19th century and nobody has ever called it "Our Lady's Row". Please consider self-revert. Rodhullandemu (talk) 00:52, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Rodhullandemu. "Our Lady’s Row" is the name quoted by the York Civic Trust (here) and which appears on the bronze York Civic Trust plaque (here) that has been affixed to the wall of Our Lady’s Row (or Lady Row) for, I think, forty years (I would have to check with the YCT, David Fraser or Peter Addyman would probably know). Happy to revert if you feel the York Civic Trust is not a suitable organisation to be cited as a source. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 01:15, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
(P.S. Actually, it might be more than forty years, the YCT have been placing plaques around the city since the 1940s).
Sources can't even agree even in the same place: here. Google "Lady Row"= 9960; "Our Lady's Row"= 1920. I'd go with en:WP:COMMONNAME as per the Principle of Least Surprise, since I think "Our Lady's Row" is the medieval name and "Lady Row" the modern, which most people from York will recognise. YCT are only one body and they have a particular POV. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 09:17, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
Fair enough, Rodhullandemu. Let’s move it back to "Lady Row" and leave a redirect from "Our Lady's Row" as an alternative name. I don't seem to be able to move it myself, would you be able to do it (I note that you are an administrator). I can handle the recategorisation of the images. Thanks, --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 14:09, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
OK, I'll do this now. The people of York will not be confused! Thanks. Rodhullandemu (talk) 08:47, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

September 2019: it's Wiki Loves Monuments time again!

Hi

You're receiving this message because you've previously contributed to the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest in the UK. We'd be delighted if you would do so again this year and help record our local built environment for future generations.

You can find more details at the Wiki Loves Monuments UK website. Or, if you have images taken in other countries, you can check the international options. This year's contest runs until 30 September 2019.

Many thanks for your help once more! MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:35, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

Sorting churches

There is a project-wide consensus to sort churches by dedication, e. g. saint's name. It makes no sense to sort on "St Lawrence" rather than "Lawrence", because then everything ends up under "S", which overloads it and is not constructive. Accordingly I have reverted your recent edits. Rodhullandemu (talk) 07:22, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for letting me know, Rodhullandemu. I trust you are keeping well? --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 10:25, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
Surviving, thanks. Good pics of York. I was planning to move back there and do them myself but you've beaten me to it. Rodhullandemu (talk) 11:18, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
So much to photograph, so little time... --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 13:54, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi! This painting is not BY Poussin, it is a portrait OF Poussin. Can you fix the wrong categorization? Sailko (talk) 15:56, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

@Sailko. Oh, my bad, I was a little careless there. I’ve amended the category to cat:Paintings in the York Art Gallery. Sorry! Thanks for letting me know. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 16:09, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 00:08, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
