Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open![edit]

Dear MSG17,

You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked.

In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.

Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 18:04, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

color code for Taiwan missions map[edit]

Hello,

Your map of the Taiwan diplomatic missions was included in today's Wikipedia main page as it illustrates the featured article on the missions.

I wonder however: what is the reason for the use of this color code? Assuming that opening embassies is a feat and a goal of the ROC, then the countries with which it has official relations should be in green, not in orange. The step right before an embassy is a mission, and for this reason most of the world's states should be colored orange.

Perhaps you may not be using the Western color code where green is widely used to mean positive (good, acceptance, victory), while orange means warning or intermediate. But I'm not sure the reverse is used in China either.

Kahlores (talk) 01:11, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I previously used a mutliple shades of blue to distinguish countries in earlier versions, which other editors brought up as too indistinguishable from each, so I came up with this new color scheme. I am actually an American, and know the connotations of colors (at least in the Western world, although it has gotten a bit more universal with cultural export). This color scheme essentially categorizes countries by how close they are to Taiwan on a spectrum - red is Taiwan itself, and the further away from red you get, the further away a country is in terms of diplomatic representation. Orange also helps the few states that do have official relations with Taiwan to stand out more. If I used this shade of orange for too much of the map, then it would be too bright and not good looking aesthetically from my perspective. MSG17 (talk) 01:21, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your help with File:Europe Portal logo hr.svg, this was fast - hehe! Best regards, Koreanovsky (talk) 18:21, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, thanks! The credit isn't all with me though - User talk:Rillke/SVGedit.js allowed me to copy and paste the SVG code in so quickly. MSG17 (talk) 18:26, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

All data published by ElectricityMap comes from public sorces and the project explicitly published on MIT license per[5]. Cloud200 (talk) 16:12, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The MIT license covers the code in that repo, but not the presentation of that data, which can still be copyrighted. MSG17 (talk) 16:17, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
