Overwriting an image

Please don't overwrite an existing image as you did with File:Chandra Shekhar Singh 2010 stamp of India.jpg. It has been reverted. If you need a new cropped image please save it as a new name. By way of information for the future, when you want to crop an image I suggest you use the CropTool that can be activated in your commons Preferences, under Gadgets. The CropTool will then appears in the left side of your screen. It saves everyone a lot of time because it transfers all the correct and appropriate information into the cropped image, such as source, license, author, etc. It even leaves a backlink to the original and visa versa so long as the original has been positively reviewed. That way all the proper information is there and does not need to be manually reviewed by volunteers. If you are just cropping a small bit of the image like a frame you can decide to overwrite the original image but for more major crops, like the one you made, you should upload the cropped version as a separate new image, but you have a choice. I hope you can see how everyone can save time and frustration by using CropTool. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 11:55, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

@Ww2censor: , I did use CropTool to crop and overwrite that image. Anyway, i agree with your arguments. Thanks for the cleanup. I've created a new image (File:Chandra Shekhar Singh.jpg) for the cropped version now. MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:35, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for making the new image. CropTool, as you know, is good but overwriting is generally not a great idea. Again thanks. 11:03, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Scripts

Do you watch this talk page? I wanted to contact you about something else on new wireframes for NPP and I would like your feedback but I don't want to clutter up your en.Wiki talk page. They may be useful in the project to make NPP Wiki agnostic. But I won't upload them to Commons for viewing by the other Wikis until we've had a chance for more discussion on en.Wiki and with the WMF, but we're not quite ready for that discussion yet. Kudpung (talk) 12:14, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

Yes, i do watch this page. You can also share images with me on the NPP Discord server, if you'd like. MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:00, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
No, I do not use any chat software or social media, and Discord is too public for risking premature comments from others on something that is not even a project yet. Already one user is demanding changes to your recent script. Some of us have dedicated Telegram accounts. If you have one I'll let you have my contact. Can you take a look at en:User:Kudpung/NPP review and let me know what amount of coding that would involve if it were to be part of Page Curation. It's a big 'if' and not likely to be offered up for discussion any time soon. Thanks. Kudpung (talk) 02:51, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
  • You seem to have a verified account on Discord. Most folk there use the public forum to chat, but there is also the option of 1-1 discussion (direct message) Any discussion there wouldn't be shared with other people, unless either of the participants share it explicitly.
  • Anyway, back to your wireframes involving 1 review and 1 endorsement: The UI changes aren't that much of an issue, according to me. Assuming a warmed-up WMF UI Engineer, a couple of days for each screen seems reasonable to me. The main issue would be about the back-end and database changes needed, since the workflow needs to be changed from one reviewer to two. There is more than one way to go about that, and the database admins would have to be consulted to figure out which of them would be least stressful on the database. MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:23, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your feedback, it's most helpful. It might come in handy one of the days when talks get seriously underway for the system being made truly Wiki agnostic. It might even be helpful for Commons although Commons is a very different type of Foundation project and has its own controls and governance. I don't do Discord. I have an account there because I once logged in to see what it is all about. It's mostly light banter and I see no reason to have a browser tab open on it permanently just in case something interesting comes along. It's probably a good venue for reviewers to help each other out, but I'm more concerned with the backroom side of NPP, as you know, and have been since I retired from being the coordinator of it 4 years ago after spending 8 years at its coal face ;) Kudpung (talk) 03:40, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Regarding your wireframes (as an NPP reviewer): Our backlog is small right now, but it may not be for long (especially if Onel goes on a hiatus). With a high backlog, you'd get a lot of opposition to this, as it seems like doubling the work of reviewers. Limiting the review+endorse workflow only for very problematic areas, that are prone to being BITEY, would be good. You seem to be quite optimistic about the WMF assigning the requisite resources for NPP tasks. NL doesn't share your optimism. Hopefully, the next meeting with the WMF would make it clear either way. MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:50, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
NPP has to learn not to be dependent on the work of one main reviewer. The effort should be to present the process as an encouragement to attract more users to the task. Currently of over 750 New Page Reviewer, less than around 50 do any reviews at all, and most of them are done by just Onel and two or three others. One of the downsides of new page reviewing (and I speak from a very long experience) is the number of complaints it gets from users on the receiving end of the reviewers' actions. Those complaints are generally unfriendly and even aggressive. This is enough to put new reviewers off almost as soon as they have begun to use their new user right.
It's my theory that if the 7 potentially contentious NPP actions were double checked, the reviewers could respond to such editors with "Your article has been checked by two reviewers who have agreed that this is the appropriate course of action within our policies and guidelines". Not all new articles enter those 7 categories so double checking is not necessary for all patrols.
The meeting that NL and MB had called for with the support of 444 signatures on the open letter was with the Director of WMF product and engineering and did not touch on the 150 individual bugs and feature requests. It was just a clear statement for permanent attention to both those issues plus making the PageTriage system Wiki agnostic as it was originally intended by the WMF. What NL and I are still not wholly optimistic about, even after a one-and-a-half hour meeting with the Director of Product and the department manger, is that the WMF will probably not release the required resources. If as a consequence the backlog grows alarmingly, it would be their fault, not ours, but it would demonstrate once again that improvements to NPP are needed for maintaining the quality of the encyclopedia. It's the en.Wiki that draws in most of the donations.
The next meeting will confirm whether or not the WMF will accord additional resources or not. If it does, priorities will be set for the long list of tasks plus those that are still under local development. If the WMF does not expand their capacity, the NPP system will continue to bounce from one crisis to the next until it crashes completely and the current group of coordinators will probably give up in despair and leave it without leadership again for a couple of years. a heads up

You put a blp-prod on Abdul_Razaq. I think you may have missed that, from 2009-07-16, until today - 2023-05-11 this was a redirect. IP contributor 14.139.235.210 changed it from a redirect to an unreferenced stub, today.

Since it had been a redirect for 14 years, and had only recently been turned into a stub, may I suggest you consider simply reverting the IP contributor?

Legislative assembly maps

Hi @MPGuy2824, I hope you are doing good. I am reaching you out here to request you to add the maps for the legislative assemblies of Andhra Pradesh constituencies the way you uploaded for the Madya Pradesh. Please do the needful if possible. Thank you 456legend (talk) 08:24, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

Happy to help, but do you want to collaborate on this? I can make and upload the individual constituency images, but there is some work on commons that must be done for each image and some on wikipedia itself. Do you think you can do those parts? I assume that a blank version of File:Wahlkreise zur Vidhan Sabha von Andhra Pradesh (2014-).svg should be used as a template. MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:32, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
@MPGuy2824 Sure, I am ready to collaborate for this purpose. I have also started a sub wikiproject en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Andhra Pradesh/Assembly constituencies update - 2023 where I am currently working on the cleanup of these assembly articles... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 456legend (talk • contribs) 17:11, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
IDK why the WikiProject is not getting reflected here...456legend (talk) 17:16, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
Fixed the link. MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:28, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
@MPGuy2824 Alright, thank you. Also please let me know about the task that I am supposed to do after you upload the assembly maps. 456legend (talk) 03:15, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
Let's continue this on your sub-project's talk page. MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:46, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
