Info on Swedish queens

[edit]

Hello! I find all 4 of your "minor corrections here questionable. Margaret was no longer queen regnant after Eric became king (there was only one official ruler). Elizabeth was queen as long as her husband was, and he was not officially deposed until 1523. Catherine M was not queen yet in 1567 and Catherine Jagiello not queen yet in 1568. Where on earth did you get that stuff? Cordially, --SergeWoodzing (talk) 00:39, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  1. I wonder from where you have got the notion that Margaret did not remain queen regnant until her death. Yes, Eric was elected in 1396, but Margaret remained in charge until her death, only after which Eric was able to properly take over.
  2. Christian II was officially deposed in 1521. There are, to my knowledge, no sources listing him as king of Sweden after that year. He was deposed in Denmark and Norway in 1523. The list of Swedish rulers take into account all of the regents in the 15th and early 16th century, even though they were not kings.
  3. Catherine M and Eric XIV married secretly in 1567, but not officially until 1568. Since Eric was arrested and deposed by his brothers in 1568, his wife couldn't have been queen further than that. Eric's brother John III declared himself king the day after Eric's arrest. The confirmation of Eric's deposition and John's ascension to the throne by the Riksdag of the Estates in 1569 was a mere formality - in practice the switch of monarchs (and thus of queens consort too) occurred in 1568.
