Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 13:56, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Liouxiao. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Liouxiao~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Autopatrol given[edit]
Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you.
File source is not properly indicated: File:Yansong.jpg[edit]
This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Yansong.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
:File:Yansong.jpg ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Welcome, Dear Filemover![edit]
Hi Liouxiao, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
- Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
- Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Image without license[edit]
File:百越先賢志.djvu[edit]
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you. This message was added automatically by MifterBot (Talk • Contribs • Owner), if you need some help about it, please read the text above again and follow the links in it, if you still need help ask at the ->Commons:Help desk in any language you like to use. --MifterBot (Talk • Contribs • Owner) 09:11, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Castegorizing[edit]
Hi Liouxiao, thank you for your works, and for efforts to categorize properly. Unfortunately there seems to be a misunderstanding: the Category:書 is only for the Chinese character "書" (radical 73 + 6 strokes) - and nothing else than just the character! I would re_categorize all your files if I only knew a better category. Please tell me a name, or create that category, where your files should be. You know, best help for others to find your items might be an English name, with useful main categories. Thank you -- sarang♥사랑 06:58, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Sarang, sorry for the misunderstanding (although in Chinese ‘書’ means a book, I put all my uploads related to a book under this category). If you dislike Category:書 being used in this manner, I'd suggest to use Category:書籍 for Chinese books (I'm considering to use Category:Ancient books as well), and Category:漢字 for those Chinese character (SVG) files. Thanks! --Liouxiao (talk) 09:40, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you. 書 contains still many files like File:一直線任于一㸃上求作垂線又用法.svg - looks to me somehow like geometrics with descriptions? Do I understand you that these will come into Category:漢字?
- The concept is that every single Chinese letter belongs to one of the 214 radicals; these 214 categories can have subcategories for letters with additional strokes if more than a few representations of the same letter exist; e.g. Category:Radical 073 had one category for the radical itself, and subcategories for 更, 書 and 會; other seldom characters with "曰" don't yet have own subcategories. As you can see, there are very different file types collected, SVG and others - just look into e.g. Radical 074-0! Sure other solutions had been possible, but this category system seems to work and everything has a well defined place. -- sarang♥사랑 10:35, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
- I'm moving files to other categories (書籍 and Ancient books). As to File:一直線任于一㸃上求作垂線又用法.svg, it is illustration for a book (《幾何原本》, Chinese translation of "Στοιχεῖα", or Euclid's "Elements"), I will move those files to another category.--Liouxiao (talk) 11:48, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
Important message for file movers[edit]
A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
