Category names should be in English[edit]

See Commons:Rename a category#Types of renames --Robert.Allen (talk) 04:38, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:Robert.Allen,
Should I do the renaming in the reverse way ? Sometimes I saw that English was not generally used. Regards. - LeoAlig (talk) 08:43, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that would be nice. Thank you! It's not an ideal situation, and it's unfortunate they have not yet implemented multilingual category names. Perhaps that is technically difficult and/or too expensive? Don't know. Cheers, --Robert.Allen (talk) 19:25, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will do it in the following days (or weeks?) considering that I will keep the French names for monuments. Besides, it was because not everything was translated into English that I decided to go back to the French standard texts. LeoAlig (talk) 03:33, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it can be confusing because English imports a lot of French words, so a kind of mish-mash results. Perhaps the English concept of a "proper name" (in English often kept in French) is different from French. --Robert.Allen (talk) 23:26, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think your sentence should be “in English, often derived from French”, to be clearer. Best wishes. - LeoAlig (talk) 03:07, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
