First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Gracias por subir tus ficheros a Wikimedia Commons. Las imágenes de Commons son usadas por los editores en varios proyectos y varios idiomas. Cada imagen es puesta en categorías, lo que ayuda a los editores a encontrarlas. Por favor, agrega categorías a cada imagen que subiste.

Hay dos formas de añadir categorías:

1) Si usas el UploadWizard, puedes añadir categorías en cada archivo cuando lo describes. Simplemente haz clic en "más opciones" del archivo y añade las categorías correspondientes.

2) De forma manual, edita la página de descripción del archivo y agrega el siguiente código al final de la página:

[[Category:Category Name]]

Por ejemplo, si estás subiendo un diagrama que muestra la órbita de unos cometas, agrega lo siguiente a la página de descripción de la imagen:

[[Category:Astronomy diagrams]]
[[Category:Trap]]

Esto mostrará el diagrama en las categorías Astronomy diagrams, Trap.

Lo más importante es que las imágenes deben colocarse en algún sitio de la estructura general. Ahora mismo hay un gran número de imágenes completamente desordenadas en Commons. Si quieres ayudarnos a colocarlas donde puedan encontrarse, ¡hazlo, por favor!

San Beturián d'Asán[edit]

Hola, estaba buscando alguna imagen de la tumba atribuida a Íñigo Arista en dicho monasterio. Esto según libro de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Zaragoza, avalado por el boletín de la Real Academia de la Historia, Tomo 53 (1908) , pp. 338-341.

Lo hacía para constatar si la cruz (la famosa cruz de Íñigo Arista) está ahí puesta, como se dice, y sobre todo cuando se construyó. Pensé que una foto me ayudaría, dado que no encuentro documentación al respecto.

Por favor, si me puedes decir si tu foto es la de el sarcófago del famoso personaje, te estaría muy agradecido. Bueno, gracias de antemano y... a plantar fuerte!--Manimor 04:53, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

En cuanto a donde ha llegado la versión, y si no hay más sarcófagos, en la Real Academia de Historia hay informe que lo da por cierto. Teniendo en cuenta las posesiones de dicho rey a este y otro lado del pirineo, todo podría ser. Pero, en realidad no es el tema que me importa. Iba tras la cruz.

Hello Lascorz - thanks for taking the time to sort images. However, I have reverted your addition of Category:Galleys to the above image. It is already within Category:Real (galley), which links upto Category:Galleys. Since images shoudl not be double-categorised into the same category, I removed your addition. User categories[edit]

Hi Lascorz, and thanks a lot for contributing all these fine images to Wikimedia Commons. It is also very good that you add dateiled categories so that other users may find and use these images. A couple of things about user categories though. Categories such as Category:Working tools (by Lascorz) should not be subcategories of regular categories (therefor I removed it from Category:Tools) and should also be marked with __HIDDENCAT__ . Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
