Location?[edit]

Hi Larry - thanks for adding File:Barn Swallows on Power Line.jpg to Commons! Could you add the location where you took it (I'm assuming somewhere in North America, but that's a big area!), please? Locations make pics far more useful. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 22:06, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could you also add a location for File:Small Chickadee.jpg, please - it is essential for identification. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 11:39, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the late (really late) reply. I've added location data. Will do so for the rest of my photos. Thanks! Mathieu Landretti (talk) 23:10, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, thanks! Could you add to File:Territorial Red-winged Black Bird.jpg and File:Male Cardinal Flies in to Feed Infant.jpg too, please :-) MPF (talk) 08:36, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Of course! Mathieu Landretti (talk) 13:35, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! And File:Song bird eating moth.jpg too, please! - MPF (talk) 20:22, 7 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Got it! Also, is there preference between "location of creation" or "coordinates of the point of view" when adding location data? Thanks! Mathieu Landretti (talk) 16:11, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the late reply, I didn't notice your query till just now! "Location of creation" is a general descriptive location, such as 'Minneapolis, Minnesota', and "coordinates of the point of view" is if you have the exact location coordinates, which is formatted like this {{Location|44.975988|-93.262672}}, which gives the location (here, a small park in Minneapolis) as a link that you can look up on a map (like google maps):
Camera location44° 58′ 33.56″ N, 93° 15′ 45.62″ W Kartographer map based on OpenStreetMap.View all coordinates using: OpenStreetMapinfo
. The exact location coordinates are the best if you have them, but obviously they aren't always available (maybe forgotten, or maybe you don't want to risk your or someone else's home privacy). If you look at e.g. Category:Troglodytes aedon (House Wren), you can click (top right) on 'Map of all coordinates on OSM' which gives you a map with all of the House Wren photos with location coordinates. Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 23:05, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification! Mathieu Landretti (talk) 14:42, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
