Cricket photos[edit]

Hello Kashish. Thanks for your message. The photos I took at the World Cup match were a bit of an experiment, because I had never taken photos at a cricket match before. Most of them have in fact already been cropped, as my lens wasn't long enough to zoom in very close.

When I publish my images on commons, I do so under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International licence. This allows anyone, including yourself, to adapt the image, including by cropping it, as long as the original image is credited to me, there is a link to the licence, and the cropped image is published under a similar licence.

I don't propose to do any more cropping of the cricket images myself. One reason for that is that I am not very familiar with the India and UAE players, and am therefore not able to identify the ones I have not already identified. Also, if the cricket images are cropped any further, they may end up being fairly low resolution. However, you are welcome to crop them if you wish.

Some of the other images I have published on commons have already been cropped. For example, this image is a crop of the larger image to which it is linked, and so is this image. If you decide to crop one of my cricket images and publish the crop, you should do that in the same way as these crops were published, ie publish it under a creative commons 4.0 licence (which is the default licence when you upload images to commons) and add an Extracted from template set up in the same way as it is in the two crops I've linked to this paragraph. (If you encounter any difficulties in doing this, just put on my talk page a link to what you've published, and I'll help you fix the problem.) Bahnfrend (talk) 08:30, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open![edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.

Dear Kashish Arora,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.
