Hello, Kanguole!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

RE:Taiwan subdivisions[edit]

Hi, as I didn't know how to use GIS softwares before, most svg maps I uploaded here were made by simply tracing from bitmap maps. If I could made some new works, I would like to use these GIS data, though there are a little bit errors in them and are somewhat outdated. Luuva (talk) 18:10, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nice works! And, as I remember, many errors are at village-level (ex. some were already merged into others), it'd have to do some extra works if you need maps at this level. -Luuva (talk) 15:08, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

linguistic maps[edit]

Hi, first, thanks for your attention and your questions. I would like explain my work to your doubts. The blue version of the maps are based mostly exactly in the green versions but in a map with more countries around, and some other peculiarities:

  1. First, the blue maps are in other ortographic projection, maybe this can be confusing, but its the same areas, so the new version continues respecting the Language Atlas of China yet. But of course, the maps are susceptible of improve by anyone who want to do.
  2. Second, only Mandarin Chinese have some differences in the map. This differences are in "light blue", that represents the areas where mandarin is speaking by minorities. For this I put Taiwan in light blue, because Mandarin is not the native language of majority, maybe we should do the same with Singapore. By the other hand, Minnan or Hakka are correctly dark colored in Taiwan. This is the reason about the mandarin map are the only one of all where are colored other countries and, yes, maybe we should change the name of this file, maybe for "Mandarin language" or "Mandarin native and oficial speak areas", or like you said "Mandarin in East Asia". The range in northkorean areas is based on this File:Sino-tibetan languages.png and this other File:Lenguas sino-tibetanas.png
  3. Third. I chose Blue color for to actualize the maps to standards of this category of languages around the world.

Thank you-- Fobos | ¿algo que decirme? 19:52, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re. languages map of Taiwan[edit]

I don't add color to those township/dist. where Hoklo is not common because I want to show the slight difference in Hoklo township/dist. If you want to add the function, please fork the codes https://gist.github.com/Yoxem/7bf89fbff179b44b01fd#file-taiwan-csv and modify them.--Yoxem (talk) 13:25, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File:Maddison GDP per capita 1500-1950.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Pengjia Islet[edit]

Hey- I'm not good at making maps yet, but I wanted to ask if you would be interested in adding a circle representing Pengjia Islet to the great File:Locator map of the ROC Taiwan.svg map you made. I think it makes sense. Readers may be interested to know that Taiwan includes an island in proximity to the nearby disputed islands area. If we're going to include the minor South China Sea islands, why not include Pengjia too? That's just my take on the issue. Thanks for your time and work. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 12:25, 25 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm worried about clutter. The South China Sea islands were already on the map before I made the circles hollow, but at least they are a long way from the main island. As for the disputed islands, Pengjia isn't that much closer to them. Kanguole (talk) 15:42, 25 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Tang dynasty map[edit]

Hello. Great work on your map of the Tang dynasty. Could you please fill me in on the exclusion of the Anbei protectorate and Ungjin commandery from the map? Both of these territories were under Tang control in 661 and seeing that the Anxi protectorate is included, I couldn't see why these should be left out. I believe the inclusion of these would be a better fit for a peak territory map of the Tang. Thanks. Jimmyshay (talk) 09:26, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Our sources do not present Mongolia as part of the Tang empire. Although Anxi and Anbei have parallel names, their situations were completely different: Anxi was under direct Tang military rule.
Regarding Ungjin, there is a difficulty in finding reliable maps of the situation in 661, of how the former territory of Baekje was divided between Tang, Silla and Baekje restoration forces (the rebellion continued until 663 or 664). Kanguole (talk) 13:53, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
