Anmerkungen zum Kategoriensystem auf Commons

Hallo Kai-Erik, ich möchte Dich auf Commons in einer nicht-automatisierten Weise willkommen heißen. Ich habe mir gerade Deine ersten vier hochgeladenen sehr schönen Bilder angesehen. Hierbei ist alles perfekt mit Ausnahme zweier kleiner Punkte, die die Kategorien betreffen:

• Kategorien sind hierarchisch organisiert und werden nicht wie Tags verwendet (wie das auf anderen Diensten wie etwa Flickr üblich ist). Deswegen sind sogenannte Überkategorisierungen zu vermeiden. All Deine bislang hochgeladenen Bilder sind der Kategorie Haithabu zugeordnet, die der Kategorie Viking Settlements angehört, die wiederum der Kategorie Viking Age angehört. Auf diese Weise gehören diese Bilder auch indirekt der Kategorie Viking Age an und es ist daher nicht erwünscht, diese Kategorie noch ein weiteres Mal direkt bei den Bildern anzugeben.
• All unsere Kategorien sind, soweit es sich nicht um Eigennamen handelt, in englischer Sprache. Es gibt bislang keine Unterstützung der Wikimedia-Software für mehrsprachige Kategorien. Deswegen wird es keine Kategorie Wikingerzeit neben Viking Age geben.

Ich war daher so frei, diese auf Commons unerwünschten Kategorisierungen zu entfernen. Wenn ich Dir sonst irgendwie behilflich sein kann, lass es mich bitte wissen. Viele Grüße, AFBorchert (talk) 08:16, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Hei, vielen Dank für diese Info. Ich habe mich da an anderen Bildern als Beispiel gehalten. Mal wieder etwas dazu gelernt. :)

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
