Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, K6ka!

Hello

I was told on mirc (by a wikimedia admin) to take the talk to that page for discussion of the topic I brought up. They gave me a direct link to that page. If you wanted it to be discussed here first then I apologize. As I said on the discussion there, I wasn't looking for you to get banned or in trouble, just to rename the files en-us to enca. Rezfan83 (talk) 12:13, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

I would have preferred to do this by e-mail, in private, but you don't have that enabled.

This user tells me, by e-mail, that we have a difficult situation.

He has been a nuisance for a number of reasons which are outlined on his talk page. Among other things, he originally picked a user name that differed only by an accent from an existing one, so I and several of our colleagues insisted that he change his name and blocked the account. He now says that he wants to turn over a new leaf and become a useful contributor. I think it is worth honoring this.

When he changed his name he apparently (as he tells me) changed to a name that was unusable and then to the name above, which is the name of a fictional character. Although that might have been acceptable if chosen by a brand new user, our colleagues are unwilling to unblock him until he changes to a neutral name.

He tells me that you have said that he may have no more name changes. If that is a hard and fast rule, then so be it. On the other hand, if you have discretion to extend the rule, I would appreciate it if you do so. I'd like to give him one more chance to straighten out. If you agree, then I will ensure that our colleagues agree that the new name is acceptable before putting through the change. Thanks, .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 22:48, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi Jameslwoodward.
There is no "hard" limit on the number of username changes a user can request. We generally don't grant "infinite renames" to users largely because username changes take up valuable server resources (It's an expensive process), and repeated username changes can confuse (and annoy) communities.
If the user wishes to be renamed again, feel free to ask them to file a request at m:SRUC, making sure to link back to this discussion thread and to explain the situation so other global renamers know what is going on.
To avoid further hassle, I'd encourage you to discuss with the user in question and agree upon what you consider a "neutral username" before filing a request, so we don't wind up having to rename the user any more than necessary.
On another note, I do have email enabled, but only on the English Wikipedia it would seem. I have now enabled it on Commons.
Thanks, —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 03:14, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Category for images of you

Hi K6ka, I was wondering if you have thought about creating a category for photos of yourself - I would think it'd be better to have a category than having scattered images across Commons. Thanks, Hiàn (talk) 01:23, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

@Hiàn: I have no problems with such a category being created. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 02:07, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks K6ka, I'll be creating the category in a few minutes then. Hiàn (talk) 02:10, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Location

Hi there. I recently uploaded File:A fence, some houses, and some really dark clouds (43051254215).jpg from your Flickr account. Do you remember where you took this? (I think it's in the area of Vaughan, Markham, or Richmond Hill.) If so, could you update the categories accordingly. Thanks. Mindmatrix 18:55, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

@Mindmatrix: It was taken in Markham. I've updated the categories accordingly. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 22:28, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, and also thanks for the freely-licensed photos. Mindmatrix 11:16, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
File:"This isn't fine" Climate Strike Toronto sign 27 Sep 2019.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
