I have deleted your user page again. It clearly solicits business for your company & that is not what Commons is about. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 08:50, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll assume the post on my talk page is from you. Do take a look at how this site operates (I'll leave you the "welcome" message again which does have useful information on it). Please sign your posts too - it makes it much easier for folk to see what is going on.
Commons is a repository for freely licensed images to be used anywhere on the internet. It is not an advertising opportunity. Your latest user page looks fine to me. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 16:32, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, John Carmichael!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

The Breed of Your Dog[edit]

Hello, I am currently re-categorizing the dog photos that are under the category "unidentified dogs". Your dog Lucy is also there with the photo Analemmatic Stone Sundial by Carmichael.jpg. Without better knownledge, I can only assume she is a Terrier or Ratter, but not the more detailed breed. I would be grateful if you can tell me her breed, so then I can put the photo under the correct category. --Canarian (talk) 09:27, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
