Submarine I-401

Hello, is this photo of submarine I-401 in the public domain? It was taken right after the end of WW2. -Artanisen (talk)

@Artanisen: If it was taken in the US, you would have to show that it was never copyrighted, or there was no reservation of rights on the back, or it was not renewed. If the formalities were complied with and it was published in 1945 and the renewal was timely, the copyright lasts through the end of 1945+95=2040. See COM:HIRTLE and COM:US. If it was not taken in the US, see COM:CRT.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 21:36, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi there! I want to delete this picture: File:18, Calea Dorobanților, Bucharest (Romania).jpg. The reason is that there’s another one that is much better, with the exact same thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neoclassicism Enthusiast (talk • contribs) 15:23, 1 March 2023‎ (UTC)

@Neoclassicism Enthusiast: What is the exact filename of "another one that is much better"? Please sign your posts.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 21:35, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
The better file is File:18 Calea Dorobanților, Bucharest (30).jpg--Neoclassicism Enthusiast (talk) 21:37, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
@Neoclassicism Enthusiast: I see, but File:18 Calea Dorobanților, Bucharest (30).jpg has an annoying wire in front of the artwork. Please read Template:Editnotices/Page/Commons:Help desk.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 21:49, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

Question about Artwork from 1889

Hello, this artwork was produced in 1889 (Meiji 22), but it was colored around 2021. Is it in the public domain? - Artanisen (talk) 10:21, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

@Artanisen: Probably, see {{PD-old-assumed}}, but please be more specific in disambiguating sourcing, mentioning the original language's caption (in this case Japanese).   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:39, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen: No. A faithful reproduction of an 1889 work would be {{PD-old-assumed}}. However, a colored-in version of an old work would be a derivative work and have its own copyright; it is more than a faithful reproduction. The Statue of Liberty is now PD, but contemporary photographs of it are derivative works with their own copyrights. Glrx (talk) 12:59, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
Thanks Jeff G. and Glrx. I also think the newer colored version would have copyright. -Artanisen (talk) 20:38, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen and Glrx: I thought the USCO refused to grant copyright for colorization of b&w works, but the situation may be different in Japan. My time is limited, please feel free to discuss on COM:VPC.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 23:49, 18 March 2023 (UTC)

You are correct! Update made.

You are correct about the photo of George Jones' grave in Nashville. That entry has been updated. Thank you for finding my error. Caustin021 (talk) 05:30, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

@Caustin021: I did not make the claim, I only notified you. You're welcome, anyway.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:45, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Deletion of file

I provided a reason for deleting my file. I uploaded this file with the wrong name and renamed it, but the old name was saved as a different file. I want to delete a file with the wrong name. Ушаков Даниил (talk) 09:56, 28 March 2023 (UTC)

@Ушаков Даниил: Have you read COM:FR#Leaving redirects? This appears to concern File:Dmiruyushakov.jpg and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dmiruyushakov.jpg.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:00, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
