License assessment request

Hi Jeff. Would you mind taking a look at File:The Good Life title card 1971.png and File:OurMissBrooksLogo.png? The first file is a screenshot and may be a problem per COM:SCREENSHOT if it's not too simple to be {{PD-textlogo}}. The second file appears to a user-created tracing of the opening title page for en:Our Miss Brooks#Television based on what you find if you Google "Our Miss Brooks opening credits". Sorry Jeff, but I don't the answers to your first three questions. I'm assuming the were copyrighted and possibly renewed, but I can't say with 100% certainty. As for your you question about the CC licenses, I'm assuming the uploader just mistakenly assumed they must be CC or PD based upon some of the comments they posted on their user talk page. It seems they saw similar files being used on English Wikipedia and mistakenly thought that made it OK to upload such screenshots to Commons. My guess is they just randomly choose whichever license they could just to get through the upload process without giving it much thought. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:41, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

@BoulevardBowl27: First, you need free content to put into an ogg container file. Then, you need a program or app that can put it there. Then, you can upload that ogg container file using COM:UW, Special:Upload, or one of the COM:Tools.

Hi Jeff, idk and you know a lot: Is there a way of deeplinking Commons images from outside WM "through" file pages? Background: If an image is deeplinked like https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c2/89224_za%26-39%3Bak_ruin_PikiWiki_Israel.jpg and is moved to a different name the link is broken, now to be seen on https://www.pikiwiki.org.il/image/view/89224 because I moved the page from bad entity encoding File:89224 za&-39;ak ruin PikiWiki Israel.jpg to File:89224 za'ak ruin PikiWiki Israel.jpg as it was intended. But now the deeplink has changed to https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1d/89224_za%27ak_ruin_PikiWiki_Israel.jpg and has to be fixed on pikiwiki. Yeah, turned off almost all notifications on Commons for not wanting to "return" or getting involved in this project again. I check back sometimes, maybe every few months, when I think of Commons, or happen to have other reasons to, like earlier I had a metawiki talk page message (which I had notifications on). There are several:

• Hidden comment in Special:Diff/374031974. Because of my personalty of wanting to keep everything working I'll be nerd sniped into maintaining everything. In the past, when I was newer here, understanding other's projects and improving upon them was a learning experience coding-wise for me. Now, this may sound selfish but my skill level is way beyond this, and taking over more and more projects is only more and more of a chore. There's no challenge at all, no excitement, no thrills. Also, since leaving almost 3 years back now I found new interests and I simply lack the time to do all this anymore.
• Sometimes it feels like people are irresponsible. Maybe It's just my feeling, but I don't think it is healthy for me to, every time something happens, the easiest path is for me to fix things myself rather than ask people responsible for them to do it. Maybe it's also an extension of above but look at this MediaWiki_talk:Gadget-VisualFileChange.js#Edit_request, {{Edit request}} without a response for over a year. Makes me wonder if there's anyone left here.
• Conflict of interest. I work for a software company, and legally my all the code I write during my employment, unless I apply for exceptions, are copyrighted by my employer. I also have to consider my employer's interests while I write anything. This means things like v2c is completely off the table.
• I miss people. Others who have retired, gone missing, passed away, even indef-ed. People whom I liked talking to, whom I looked up to. People who were genuinely nice people to interact with until things went bad (yes I know I just linked two LTAs, but I can't help thinking of the time before they became LTAs).
• Drama. "the lack of response to this thread shows how dysfunctional this community has become. compare with the enthusiasm for mudfight and bureaucray". "the inability of Commons not to lose its valuable users over not-so-serious incidents". When I wrote Special:Diff/405989975 I wrote it because I love explaining how things work, because I love learning new things and subconsciously assumes others are too. I genuinely felt like Alexis was a person I could train to help me with everything that was going on at the time. We all know how things turned out less than just 3 days later. I was furious. And when I cooled down, I lost all hope.

To clarify, I still deeply care about Commons, given that many years of my life was spent doing Commons stuffs, but I consciously resist caring and try to avoid looking, but sometimes I just can't help myself to see how Commons is going. In many parts of the world, per the Berne Convention, all of your copyrightable works are automatically copyrighted by you the moment they are fixed in a tangible medium of expression, even if that medium is a block of RAM or disk space on your employer's system. If your employment contract licenses those works to your employer, fine. If it assigns the copyright for them to your employer, that strikes me as theft of your intellectual property, and makes that portion of your contract unconscionable. Template editor's help wanted

Hi Jeff, you are my favorite experienced template editor ;). I stumbled accidentally upon File talk:Recueil des plus illustres proverbes divises en trois livres 1657-1663 (5799532).jpg and tried to fix according to that the file page File:Recueil des plus illustres proverbes divises en trois livres 1657-1663 (5799532).jpg. Afterwards I noticed that thousands of file pages are affected. Therefore extending the template {{Polona}} is better than fixing the file pages. The GLAM uploader used the parameter url= which is unknown to the template and thus the links don't work. I think the simplest way were <pseudocode→ if there is url= take that link else let it run the way it was before>. May be you have a better idea, the template has 2 parameters and there is no doc. Bull-doser

Hello Jeff G.,

As you have had some encounters with Bull-doser in the past, I just wanted to inform you that he is blocked indefinitly from FRWiki since last friday. He probably won't be able to get unblocked as he doesn't seems to understand what was the problem that got him blocked. Also, it is now known that he has been harassing the people he takes the pictures of. He was even kicked from an event by security because of his behavior.

There are some technical copyright issues. It may contain a faithful reproduction of the 2D painting, but there is also an ornate 3D frame. When was the frame made? The frame may have a copyright. The frame is also 3D, so the faithful reproduction of a 2D object may not apply even if the frame is PD. The Statue of Liberty is PD, but reent photos of it will have a copyright. The Frozen Thames painting by Abraham Hondius

Hello, can I upload this artwork? It was made by Abraham Hondius in 1677. There's a low resolution version here. The colors are different though. @Artanisen: whichever looks better to you, or both. Version 1 is higher resolution, but yellowed; version 2 is less yellowed, but lower resolution. Never mind the Getty images name.
