Hi Jeff, thanks, but then the Category:Convert to TXT seems a bit odd to me :-) Lotje (talk) 09:44, 4 November 2022 (UTC)

File:Maria Newman.jpg

Hi Jeff. Would you mind taking a look at File:Maria Newman.jpg? I cannot seem to find anything on the source website which verifies it had been released as licensed or even find the photo itself. — Marchjuly (talk) 15:02, 4 November 2022 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Alamy has a much larger version of it for license at https://www.alamy.com/english-maria-newman-15-october-2012-025424-httpwwwmalibufriendsofmusicorg-montgomery-arts-house-press-image351227900.html?imageid=7683B064-7FAD-4250-B39F-B91730E55D18&p=1249410&pn=1&searchId=d19cb52fa5f1fe8dac2ffa24106998d5&searchtype=0 as having been "15 October 2012, 02:54:24; http://www.malibufriendsofmusic.org; Montgomery Arts House Press". Pinging @CJBlevins as uploader. See also the confusion at User talk:JarektBot/2013#‎Maria Newman Page. Certainly worth a DR.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:16, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

File:Linda Buck.jpg

Hi Jeff. Would you mind taking a look at File:Linda Buck.jpg? The claim of "own work" is a bit questionable and there's no source or EXIF data provided to help verify its licensing. However, a Google image search did find this which looks like the full image. The en:OggiScienza website attributes the photo it's using to Commons, which means this one might actually be a crop of File:Dr Linda Buck ForMemRS.jpg. Since the full image is VRT verified, perhaps all that needs to be done is connect the two files together using {{Image extracted}} and {{Extracted from}}, except that File:Linda Buck 2015 (cropped).jpg already exists and there's no need for two practically identical crops (particularly when one seems to be of a lower resolution). Should "File:Linda Buck.jpg" be tagged for speedy deletion per COM:CSD#F8? -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:04, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Yes, I tagged it as a dup.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:14, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

Re: File copyright status

In response to your message, I must say that I have been uploading images to Commons for years and have never provided false information while doing so. The Superman animated films are in the public domain and available at the Internet Archive. Therefore, so are the images of them that I uploaded to Commons. I see no reason for them to have been deleted. Kind regards.

@Chamarasca: No, DC Comics conserva unos derechos de autor del personaje válido en Superman hasta 2033. Consulte Category:PD Cartoon - Superman para obtener más información.
No, DC Comics retains a valid character copyright on Superman until 2033. See Category:PD Cartoon - Superman for more information.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 08:05, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
OK.
OKAY. And then, why does this photograph, this other, this one or this one appear in Commons ? Doesn't DC Comics retain copyrights to the character that prevent uploading to Commons? What is the difference with the ones I uploaded? And there are representations of other similar characters, such as Spiderman, Iron Man and others.
translator: Google Translate via   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 08:58, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
@Chamarasca: He etiquetado esos cuatro archivos con nombre y otros como violaciones de derechos de autor. Marvel Comics también puede tener derechos de autor de personajes, no los he investigado. I have tagged those four named files and others as copyright violations. Marvel Comics may also have character copyrights, I have not looked into those. File:NAFO OFAN logo.jpeg

Hi Jeff G. Would you mind checking the licensing of File:NAFO OFAN logo.jpeg? The same file has been uploaded to English Wikipedia as the non-free en:File:NAFO OFAN brain damaged cartoon dogs.jpeg. If the Commons file is OK as licensed, then there's no need for a local non-free one to be kept by English Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:56, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello Jeff, @Marchjuly: wondering if there is a category here with a name like shitposting. Since it appears in the Category:NAFO (group) infobox under 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine shitposting This file could fit into that category I guess. Thanks. Lotje (talk) 07:11, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
I'm more interested in whether the file's license can be verified than how the file can be categorized. I guess if you feel it belongs in that category, you can add it. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:22, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
@Marchjuly and @Lotje: I tagged the file and final warned the uploader for you. Shitposting on WMF projects is abusive, as is glorification of it. Unfortunately, a page about it on Meta was kept by Base per m:Meta:Requests for deletion/Archives/2021#WikiMemes User Group.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:45, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank Jeff, as always, coming up with the right reaction . Is the use of shitposting also seen as abusive, or is that a word commonly accepted now? Thanks. Lotje (talk) 10:48, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
@Lotje: It appears that private Special:AbuseFilter/36 still filters out "Replacing a page with obscenities", but then Steinsplitter's SteinsplitterBot hasn't updated Commons:Database reports/Abuse filter effectiveness since 00:43, 06 October 2020 (UTC).   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:56, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Maybe a consensus could be reached for words in the 36. But I guess there is a great difference between edits and edits. Also, hopefully I did not offend anyone by creating the Category:Shitposting. I merely created a category for a word on Wikidata. Language barriers are terrible, that is why wikidata is a great help to me. Cheers. Lotje (talk) 11:48, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Coming back on the subject: what about this image? Can this be added to the category, or is it fake too iyo? Maybe Marchjuly knows more about it? Thanks. Lotje (talk) 12:09, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
@Lotje: I tagged File:Alternate NAFO logo.svg as an unsourced DW and warned the uploader.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:39, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
The file has nothing to do with shitposting, but is the logo of a "shitposting" orgasination - See here: [1]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAFO_(group)
If it comes to such questions next time, please contact me.
By the way, I uploaded the file to the German Wikipedia, but it was moved here. Dxrktroy (talk) 09:15, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Possible Copyright Violation

Hi, I saw your copyright warning. Unfortunately, it's not my fault that the author has gone private - here's a screenshot of the tweet: https://ibb.co/CBtCYmM

Hello Jeff, can you help me with this? this file and the others uploaded by Pascale De Backer (Category:Uploaded via Campaign:wmbe-wwd) still appear in the Commons:Deletion requests/2022/10/26. Do you know if the files will be removed automatically or if they will stay on the list forever? Thank you for your time. :-) Lotje (talk) 12:43, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

@Lotje: They will stay there until the DRs are closed. Again, please participate in those seven discussions, linked on User talk:Pascale81.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:08, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Avertissement

Dear collègue : please stop to put on my talk page avestissement and menace with no explication : for what files are you speaking ? I am contributor in Commons since more than 17 years and put more than 6000 pictures. You can understand that if exceptionaly I have do some mistake, I woork also against copyrightviolation. I hope you action is an error. Thank you - Siren-Com (talk) 23:22, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

@Siren-Com: Just two months ago, 20:38, 22 September 2021 (UTC), you uploaded copyright violation File:Reims Delzers 1930.jpg after I gave you this warning 23:00, 31 August 2022‎ (UTC). This was after many requests for permission and notifications of perceived copyright problems.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 23:40, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
I suppose it is about the stamp Le sourire de Reims by Antonin Delzer (PD) and André Louis Pierre Rigal dead on december 1953. One of the 70 stamps I have pictured. The stamp will be on PD on 2024. Everybody can mistake, it is no reason to disturb quiet person for that with a very rude message ! See on french Commons Bistro, I have signaled for deletion many more copyviolation than I have comited unfortunaly. Best regards. - Siren-Com (talk) 00:03, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Nagasawa Kanaye photo

Hello Jeff G., can I upload this photo [[2]] ? It says "Kanae Nagasawa, one of the first Japanese immigrants to the U.S., is seen in this undated photo. | COURTESY OF MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT OF ICHIKIKUSHIKINO / VIA KYODO". Kanaye lived from 1852 till 1934. So I think it was published before 1927. In Japan it should be in the public domain, because it was photographed before January 1, 1947. - Artanisen (talk) 05:19, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:George Fan 2018.jpg

Hi Jeff G. It looks like it's a bot that keeps starting Commons:Deletion requests/File:George Fan 2018.jpg. The bot probably will keep renominating the file for deletion until it's told not to do so or it's shut down. Perhaps there's a bug somewhere that's causing the bot to nominate this file? -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:41, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Thanks, AntiCompositeNumber globally locked it for that and impersonation!   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 06:03, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
