Help with notifying uploader

I ran into a problem with a uploader who posted two images to Wikimedia Commons and they aren't the original copyright holder, they uploaded the images on the photographer's behalf but didn't go through the process by getting permission for Wikipedia, so I was wondering if you could help by explaining to them how to get the proper permission and the correct license. These are the images [1] and [2] Btspurplegalaxy (talk) 09:16, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

@Btspurplegalaxy: I warned the user, opined at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Wonyoung Kpop click.jpg, and started Commons:Deletion requests/File:Wonyoung eleven fansign.jpg. Paper9oll tagged File:Wonyoung Kpop click.jpg as missing permission.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:03, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
@Jeff G. Yes, I tagged the file as missing permission from my understanding through the discussion at en:User talk:Btspurplegalaxy#Wonyoung lead image. Paper9oll 11:15, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Non-free album cover in public domain?

Hi Jeff G., any clue if music album cover can be considered as public domain, for example this which I just found out today, but I haven't come across music album cover which are normally covered as non-free under English Wikipedia or refer to as fair use on Commons. Hence is that file overlook or was it correct as it was initially uploaded outside of Commons (possibly English Wikipedia but I can't confirm) as local file before imported onto Commons. Paper9oll 13:45, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

@Paper9oll: According to en:Dynamite (BTS song), the song was released by Big Hit, Columbia, and Sony Music. We would need permission from one of those record companies. Good luck. Pinging @Aurelio de Sandoval as {{Pd-logo}} tagger.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:02, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
@Jeff G. Yes, the song was published by the three labels, but I couldn't find an evidence on that file to indicate that it's been reviewed by OTRS. Aurelio doesn't seem to active since April 2022, is there a faster venue or someone able to check if there was OTRS verification for that file. Paper9oll 14:09, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
@Paper9oll: Sorry, no faster way than a DR. I couldn't find an evidence in VRT to indicate that it's been reviewed by OTRS (now named VRT).   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:19, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
@Jeff G. No problem, I'll give !vote on the DR. Thanks you for the starting it. Paper9oll 14:20, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
@Paper9oll: You're welcome, but there's no need to ping me on this page. Convenience link: Commons:Deletion requests/File:BTS - Dynamite (official cover).png.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:24, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike

Just an FYI, but you used the wrong template on my talkpage. Copying content to Wikimedia Commons under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license is not a copyright violation since Wikimedia is a nonprofit organization. It is simply not allowed under the internal policies of Wikimedia Commons since noncommercial licenses are not compatible as Free Cultural Works. A new template may need to be created specifically for content that is legally allowed to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (i.e. not a copyvio), but otherwise uses an incompatible license. Nicole Sharp (talk) 03:20, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

@Nicole Sharp: Allowing people to upload content which is under only a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license would be against Commons and WMF policies because that would allow commercial reusers to violate their copyright. We use {{Copyvionote}} to tag such content; you may try to change that template via Template talk:Copyvionote. Many before you have tried to change those policies and failed. For the reasons behind our limitations on -nc- and -nd- restrictions, please see Commons:Licensing/Justifications.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:58, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Question about Speedy delete template

Hello Jeff, in cases like this, where a recently a blocked user inserted this template to their user talk page, should that template be removed, or should that page be deleted, I wonder. Thanks. Lotje (talk) 10:14, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

@Lotje: You don't need to do anything, an Admin dealt with it already.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:55, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

What about adminship?

Hi, Would you like to become an admin on Commons? You know the rules, you are active, and your participation shows your dedication to the project. Yann (talk) 18:44, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

@Yann: Thank you for the consideration. You may wish to review Commons:Administrators/Requests/Jeff G. 3 and Commons:Administrators/Requests/Jeff G. 5. I have been advised to wait 2-3 years until the next RfA.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 20:50, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
In the last request, I see that most active admins support you. But it is your decision. Yann (talk) 22:33, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
@Yann: I wonder what the 21 opposers in Commons:Administrators/Requests/Jeff G. 5 with active accounts would have to say. I really support Jeff G. right now. He is very active and very knowledgeable plus we need active admins right now to clear the backlog. Thanks, Contributers2020Talk to me here! 03:54, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
@Contributers2020: Thanks!   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:31, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
I would gladly support Jeff. I have done it in the past too. In my opinion with his knowledge he would be of great help to the admin team. - FitIndia Talk 17:20, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Image export to Commons

Hello. You recently helped me by exporting a Wikipedia image to Commons (File:IriverTD.jpg). I have another image that I'd like to export, File:SensMelogo.png. I have written on Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#I_think_this_logo_image_should_be_exported_to_Commons that it should be valid for Commons. Thanks. --Morita Akio (talk) 21:32, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Pinging @PhaseChanger as uploader.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 21:59, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
PhaseChanger hasn't made any contributions to Wikipedia since 2016, so I think this is a dead end. --Morita Akio (talk) 22:02, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
@Morita Akio and Yann: Ok, behold File:SensMelogo.png.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 22:33, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello Jeff, is this what you would call a copyvio? Thanks. Lotje (talk) 06:11, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

@Lotje: I tagged it and warned the uploader.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:33, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

Uploads

On "fifty in the last 5 minutes," did you mean fifty failures or fifty successes? If I'm not the only one with this problem, can anything be done about it? Sardaka (talk) 07:59, 17 May 2022 (UTC)!

@Sardaka: Fifty successful uploads, and you were the only one reporting at the time. Your situation looks like a bug. Please try different windows, browsers, operating systems, devices, connections, and locations available to you, and see mw:How to report a bug if the problem persists. You could also try using User:Rillke/bigChunkedUpload.js (documentation is on the talk page).   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:09, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Ticket:2022050510007933

Hi Jeff, My understanding is that we got permission to use these images on May 8th from the Wiki team. I was asked to upload these images to Wiki Commons, which I have done. Please see message below. To summarize, these pictures were taken by the team members of Sami Khan, who is the celebrity I am representing for this request. Sami owns these images as his team takes these images for him, per his request, to post on his social media pages. He is the owner of these images and has given the written consent to use these images.

Thank you in advance

Lopa

Here is the email message from May 08, 2022

Dear Lopa Patel,

Thank you for your permission to use media file(s) on Wikimedia Commons.

For us to process your contribution(s), we need to know the specific name or URL of the page(s) on Wikimedia Commons to which you have uploaded them, or the user name used to upload.

If you have not yet uploaded, please continue to upload the file(s) and let us know when done. When you reach the second page of Upload Wizard, you should select "This file is not my own work" (even if it is your own work) and put {{Permission pending}} in the Source field to mark the file as awaiting processing.

If the file(s) were deleted, please do not attempt to re-upload them; they will be automatically restored by an administrator upon successful confirmation of permission.

Sincerely, Alfred Neumann Lopa33 (talk) 16:21, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

@Lopa33: No, you did not get permanent permission yet on Ticket:2022050510007933. Please reply to that email message with URLs https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SamiKhan2022.jpg and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Samikhan040922.jpg , the above information, and copies of the written consent (including the team members' consent to transfer copyright, perhaps as part of an employment agreement), and await further instructions via email. When we write "we need to know", we mean it, or your files will not be approved and the remaining one will be deleted. I noticed that you did not use {{Permission pending}} yet, why?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:44, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
Note to talk page stalkers: this is further to our original interaction at COM:HD#Ticket status.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:51, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for your response regarding Ticket:2022050510007933. I am new to this process so I appreciate your patience and willing to work with me on this. I will work on getting the written consent from the photographer.

Regarding your questions about the pending mark (for awaiting process), in the email I received, I was asked to add Template:-subst:PP- in the Source field which is what I added. Should I have added Template:T2 Permission pending instead? Please let me know if I need to change anything and how I can make the update.

Thank you! Lopa33 (talk) 17:24, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

@Lopa33: We meant "{{subst:PP}}" as an active template (without code or nowiki tags or quotes). You did not need to make a new section, just edit the old one.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 21:24, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Ticket:2022050510007933

My sincere apologies - I am not familiar with the terms. Can you please provide some instructions on what I need to do to fix the issue?

Thank you for your patience and help! Lopa33 (talk) 23:02, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

File:Kyle Clifton.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Deletion

Hi! There is no line "Nominate for deletion" on my page [3]. --Бучач-Львів (talk) 13:12, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello Бучач-Львів, enable QuickDelete gadget in your preferences and the links will show up in your sidebar. Hulged (talk) 13:27, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
Hello Hulged Thanks, it looks like. --Бучач-Львів (talk) 11:07, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Self promotion?

Hello Jeff, do you think this is a perfect example of self-promotion? If positive, imo are out of scope. Thanks. Lotje (talk) 15:26, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

@Lotje: All uploads and new pages tagged, user warned, reported, and blocked, thanks!   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:47, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, You don't need to tank me on boards all the time. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:09, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

@Yann: Ok, sorry for the bother. By the way, I have not been able to login to Wikilivres in a long time, do you know the status?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:18, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
We lost contact with the last sysadmin, who seems to have disappeared. Everything has to be rebuilt from a backup somewhere else. :( And I don't have the time and the resources to do it myself. Yann (talk) 14:24, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
@Yann: That's a shame, but thanks for the update.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:14, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. I'm trying hard to not break the rules of the Wikimedia Commons and I'm considering the copyright issues with any upload I make. Thanks a lot for all information you provide me Kareem4kareem (talk) 22:01, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Removing original upload

Hey Jeff,

Can you help with this. I uploaded a file I thought had no audio on it but I was wrong. It was reuploaded but I need to delete the original copy to remove the original with the copyrighted music. File:Searls_Station_rail_cars_filled_with_Basalt_by_D_Ramey_Logan.webm: ty. --Don (talk) 16:40, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

@Don: Sorry, no, I can't help with this. Your best bet is to post to COM:AN.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 20:15, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

File:170510 BTS at Release Event at Roppongi Hills Arena, Tokyo, Japan.jpg

I uploaded this image from Tistory which has the Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, I remove the logo when uploading it. It has been tagged for deletion, as the author has a note “*do not edit and use commercially”. I was wondering doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of being allowed to remove the logo? Since the author has that license, that would give me the right to remove it, right? So I was wondering if I'm wrong for uploading the image ever through the license to allow me to upload it. Btspurplegalaxy (talk) 20:30, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello Jeff. Everyting IK? Would you take a look at the summary of this file? Seems not related to the image. Though, wouldn't know what to do with this. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 14:32, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

Also this image of (my guess) Vladimir Putin seems an itsy bitsy out of scope. Lotje (talk) 14:34, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
And last but not least this one. Lotje (talk) 14:37, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
@Lotje: Ok, thanks. I renamed and removed the G10 content from the first & third files, and nominated the second as F4.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 20:58, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
