File:Frederick George Cotman, one of the family, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.jpg

Hello, This message is a copy of the one that I just sent to Mdaniels5757 :

Hello, I'm french but I hope my english will be comprehensible.

You sent me an advice about my last wikipedia picture that I imported on 02/28/2020. This picture was taken by me at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool on 12/09/2019. I can prove it by sending the complete picture taken by me that day, that will be different with original picture frame, wall part, that I resized before publication. (I don't know how to send it to you without Wikipedia import). After examination of my publication and the one already published, you can notice many differences : there is a reflection from the museum lamps on the top middle of my picture, the colours are different, depending of the lightning in the museum, and also many small reflects over all the picture are different. As I intended to add this image to the Walker Art Gallery, I did see that there was already an equivalent image, but I always use my own images and never re-publish someone else picture. So I imported my own version. As these two images are equivalent, I will not mourn over my picture deletion but I wanted to show my honesty.

Sincerely, Pierre — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ducatipierre (talk • contribs) 15:41, 29 February 2020‎ (UTC)

Hi jeff

I came across this user, while editing Kolkata Metro article, User:Swastik Mridha. See this user uploads. How can anyone upload others photos using CC4.0 license? ArnabSaha (talk) 18:21, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

@ArnabSaha: Thanks for your message. I tagged all their uploads as copyvios and reported them at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks and protections#Swastik Mridha.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 02:17, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
@ArnabSaha: ok. but 1 thing i couldnt understand, why these didnt get tagged automatically? they were directly copyvios. :) ArnabSaha (talk) 10:58, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
@ArnabSaha: The uploader used fraudulent licenses.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:23, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Sir, Please note Previous time I had Uploaded the picture by giving the condition. It's my own work. But this time, I have used WikiWizard and provided viewers with Actual Author's. Then Please inform me the what is the actual problem then? Swastik Mridha (talk) 03:20, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

@Swastik Mridha: I replied on your user talk page.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:23, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

File:Discovery Partners Institute.png

Oops. I didn't start a new section for my topic. I'll delete what I wrote a few minutes ago, soon.

Thanks for your response here. It's dawning on me that there may be more than one way to get an image into a Wikipedia article. Can one put an image directly into Wikipedia, without putting it into commons.wikimedia.org? You probably already figured out that I'm interested in using the logo "File:Discovery Partners Institute.png" only in the infobox in the Wikipedia article I am working on. If there is a process for putting an image directly into Wikipedia, would it make sense for me to start over, and use that process? (If so, can you tell me where to start? -- and, would I wait until my work is an actual Wikipedia article?, with name "Discovery Partners Institute") Thanks CWBoast (talk) 18:19, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
@CWBoast: Yes, you can "put an image directly into Wikipedia". Once your article is in mainspace, I suggest starting with en:Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard and proceeding to the links in the "Wikipedia" column on that page when ready.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 07:10, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Phabricator

Dear Jeff G., It seems that this request with Phabricator has been ignored. I'm not familiar with this part of the project. Should I re-post my problem on the help desk, or wait longer for a response? Best regards, Basile Morin (talk) 13:57, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

@Basile Morin: I updated the task. Please continue to wait, but don't hold your breath. Also, any png image will look fuzzy when scaled down or jaggy when scaled up, so you may want to upload an svg or jpg version, too.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:44, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
PNGs from Photoshop do not display, while the same files saved with Paint 3D seem to work. No clue why. Thanks! -- Basile Morin (talk) 15:15, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
@Basile Morin: Could you try to run that file through Paint 3D and overwrite?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:55, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
Yes, it works here. Although the previous version is still not displayed, the current one is okay. But I don't know if the problem comes from Photoshop (last version that many people use) or from Commons. It might be a bit boring to convert every file with another software, whereas Photoshop is dedicated to illustrations in general. And I have quite a lot. But that's a solution. Thanks -- Basile Morin (talk) 16:39, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
@Basile Morin: I'm glad that test worked for you. You could also post about this (with Photoshop and OS versions) at Commons:Graphic Lab/Photography workshop, watched by many Photoshop users.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 07:19, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
Good idea. ✓ Done Thanks -- Basile Morin (talk) 09:24, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
@Basile Morin: You're welcome.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:42, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Self promotion or just a stunt?

Hi Jeff G. I was wondering if you could take a look at these files. There has been created a Q82023331 by the same person. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 12:46, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

I've nominated the Wikidata page for deletion, but they've got quite a backlog. Rodhullandemu (talk) 12:59, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
@Lotje and Rodhullandemu: Thanks for your help. All files meet CSD criteria, and I tagged them accordingly.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:39, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Uploads

Me again. My uploads don't work, either with the old form or the Upload Wizard. Uploads to Facebook and Flickr are working OK, but not to Commons. They start off looking OK but then fail after a while. Sardaka (talk) 10:40, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

Just had a successful upload with a different file, but was getting nowhere with the previous image. Is there such a thing as a particular image not being compatible with our system?

Sardaka (talk) 11:01, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

@Sardaka: Sorry, I don't know. Have you tried to upload that same image to Wikimedia Commons BETA, Test Wikipedia, Test2 Wikipedia, Deletionpedia, or a social networking site?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:57, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

picture upload

I have seen that you have flagged my picture upload. I'm a new user. Could you please help on the best way to proceed? I would like to change a picture, or at least take down a picture on a wikipedia page. THe current image is no longer relevant. The bank was called Dexia BIL until 2012. Since 2012, it is called BIL only (or Banque Internationale à Luxembourg). You can see for yourself here: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banque_internationale_%C3%A0_Luxembourg How can i upload a new picture?

Thank you for your help — Preceding unsigned comment added by BIL2020 (talk • contribs) 15:15, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

@BIL2020: Do you own the copyright to File:BIL PLM.jpg? Were you the photographer? What is your relationship with BIL? Pinging @Túrelio as deleting Admin.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:50, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: I do not own the copyright, BIL does. I am not the photographer. I work for BIL. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BIL2020 (talk • contribs) 10:18, 11 March 2020‎ (UTC)
@BIL2020: BIL needs to license the file freely via OTRS.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:36, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
@BIL2020: Once a suitable replacement has been uploaded, here or on French Wikipedia, the existing file usage in fr:Banque internationale à Luxembourg can be addressed.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:10, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: what do you mean by suitable replacement? how can the current picture be taken down. This picture is misleading. Is there an instructions manual as how to proceed to change a picture on a Wikipedia page? Is it necessary to go through Wikimedia commons? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BIL2020 (talk • contribs) 10:18, 11 March 2020‎ (UTC)
@BIL2020: In what way is the current picture File:Luxembourg Dexia Building.JPG or the use of it in the article misleading? You may want to read en:Help:Pictures or fr:Wikipédia:Mise en forme des images to change picture usage in the article, but I would not suggest removing the sole picture from any article without immediate suitable replacement. See also en:WP:THREAD and en:WP:INDENT, and you don't have to notify me of posts on this page.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:36, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Copyright issue

I am new editor on wikipedia and wondering if a page like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grant_Green displays an image of the artist, can't a translated page (say in Hebrew) can not display the same image under the same license?

Thanks in advance - Tomer — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thetomer (talk • contribs) 11:40, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

@Thetomer: You would have to upload the file to Hebrew Wikipedia and follow he:ויקיפדיה:רישוי תמונות/שימוש הוגן (the equivalent of en:WP:F).   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:12, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

Account rename

Hi Jeff G. Need your help. Don't know what it is, but I keep having difficulties with the global login, also after using the ReFill tool, I need to login constantly. Wondering if a rename of my account would make sense. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 07:02, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

@Lotje: Bug reports generally require specifics, please see mw:How to report a bug for details.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:19, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you Jeff G. I went reporting the bug (probably not correctly), noticing the name of Klapper :-) see what comes next. Lotje (talk) 12:42, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
@Lotje: You're welcome. What is the Task ID Number?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:12, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Copyright Issue

Hi Jeff,

How do I find a photo for a person that will not have copyright issues? Is there a procedure? This is for Faizal Kottikollon. Thanks in advance. I am new to this and I am having a little trouble with how to go about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vathsalak (talk • contribs) 14:39, 22 March 2020‎ (UTC)
