Hi Jeff.

I need help regarding-

1) OTRS. I want to upload a pic in commons, but I dont own the copyright. So, I need to ask permission via OTRS, right? So, if the copyright holder mails to OTRS team, using the email template, will I be able to upload the pic then?

2) I found a pic of a person on Facebook page. I dont know who clicked the photo. The pic is of 1920s. In this case, do I need to take permission? Arnabsaha2212 (talk) 13:44, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

@Arnabsaha2212: Hi.
  1. You would need to ask the copyright holder to send permission via OTRS with a carbon copy to you. You could upload with {{subst:OP}}. If the permission were approved, an OTRS member would mark the uploaded file as such.
  2. What pic? What can you tell us about the dates and countries of photography and publication?

@Jeff G.: Thanks... better i put the link of my 2nd matter... this one the pics are of founders of East Bengal Club, Kolkata, India East Bengal F.C. these were most probably taken in 1920s. i dont know about the publication. i thought the founders' pic could be given in the article, so i asked, it its possible to upload. Q

Hi Jeff. By any chance, do you know where can I find files that are categorised into a "possibly from facebook" page? Something like Category:Files from WhatsApp with bad file names. (Talk/留言/토론/Discussion) 04:19, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

@大诺史: No, sorry. Try COM:VPT.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:07, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

FB & notification

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your work on checking that images are compatable with policies. I know it's no fun job :) I came across this nomination, and was curious if you could be persuaded to adapt your reasoning-message a bit. With competitions like Wiki Loves Monuments, we expect a lot of new contributors that don't know much about our policies, and may indeed make mistakes (although in my experience the vast majority has good intentions). If you see an image like this, it would be helpful if you could add a bit more instructions in your message on how to address the issue (working from the assumption that someone is indeed the true author). Your response at the help desk was a good suggestion, and I don't see why we would wait until people ask about it :). The abbreviations also look a bit.. scary. With a little bit of luck, such constructive approach will convince newcomers every now and then to stick around and contribute more.

I'm assuming here that you probably use some default messages that you can edit. Thanks in advance for considering! Effeietsanders (talk) 16:30, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

@Effeietsanders: Hi. Please clarify. Are you writing of @大诺史's messages on User talk:Geoffrey Noel Stevens or my message you linked? What improvements would you suggest? My usual advice for those who repost their own works here is "Please post Commons:Licensing compliant permission for such works on your website or social media presence or send the works and permission via OTRS."   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:12, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
Akh, you're right - I somehow misread that you were the one doing the nomination. My bad! :) I'll ask 大诺史 the same. I don't think the specific line that you give above is very helpful though, it requires too much clicking. But I liked the text you put on the helpdesk (or a version of it) along the lines of "For example, add 'Licensed cc-by-sa-4.0' to the Facebook photo page/post and link it from the photo description page in the source field". It is really hard to grasp for a newcomer what "licensing compliant permission" means in reality. Effeietsanders (talk) 17:32, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
@Effeietsanders: Would you prefer "the abbreviation, full name, URL, or legal code of any license we accept"? Also, you are welcome to discuss the wordings of {{Copyvio}} and {{Copyvionote}} on their respective talk pages.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:44, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: I usually assume that if people intentionally upload their own picture, and they are new to Wikimedia, they probably don't really care what exact license. So in that case it may be preferable to just give them one really clean option that they can just copy-paste. The sentence you describe is great for policy pages though, but I'm afraid it goes over the heads of most common internet folk (which is the main audience in WLM). If you add 'for example' to a specific copypastable statement that is guaranteed to work, that would be ideal. People who understand the details will know they can still do whatever they want, and people who are just grasping on, can just copypaste it and be done. Patient consent

I have received few pictures via online consultation. Can those images be uploaded. They are of good quality medical images Nurse99 (talk) 17:23, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

@Nurse99: Did you read Commons:Patient images? Are the patients identifiable? If so, do you have signed informed consent forms? Do you have permission from the photographers in writing?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:34, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

The image are non identifiable

The images are non identifiable , I dont have written consent . Is written consent nessary in such a case Nurse99 (talk) 18:09, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

@Nurse99: Yes, that is required for copyright transfer under US law. Please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept them as is, and have the photographer(s) license them on their websites or social media or send the photos and permissions via OTRS with carbon copies to you.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 01:32, 9 September 2019 (UTC)

Hlo

How should I provide prove regarding consent? I dont see any option to provide any prove of consent during the uploading process. Will a written consent via email do .We do use such un identifiable images for medical purposes , teaching ,shared among doctors in various platforms, studies.Thank you for your time. Nurse99 (talk) 06:22, 9 September 2019 (UTC)

@Nurse99: Via OTRS. Please use an "edit" link, rather than creating a new section.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:43, 9 September 2019 (UTC)

Re: Edit Summary

Hi Jeff G., I got your message. That's caused by the system. Unfortunately, I don't know why the edit summary is empty.--Kai3952 (talk) 18:20, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

@Kai3952: What system did you use to make these 20 edits?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 00:24, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
Because I clicked "Add a new request"(blue button) just above COM:HMS#Current requests. If you really think that the problem is me, please report me to the admins.--Kai3952 (talk) 01:19, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

Image you tagged as needing work

Not a wonderful job but I will try to think of ways to improve it. https://www.dropbox.com/s/mlz8d0xnx57bvtn/Portrait_of_Mr._Plimsoll.jpg?dl=0 The system would not let me upload this to the image page. That's why I'm having to link to it this way. I could upload it under a different name. Please advise Wiki name (talk) 03:00, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

Okay, I uploaded it under the name File:Portrait of Mr. Plimsoll, M.P.jpg and replaced the locations it is used. If this is wrong someone will have to correct it. Wiki name (talk) 00:08, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
@Wiki name: Please use {{Extracted from}} and {{Image extracted}} or dFX to link between that file and source File:Portrait of Mr. Plimsoll, M.P (4670444).jpg   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 00:21, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

LOL

Oh dang, didn't realise the whole thing was added in by that user. Thanks for reverting. (Talk/留言/토론/Discussion) 08:47, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Hello. Don't you think we should just change the license to {{PD-textlogo}} instead of putting it up for speedy? Cheers, --SVTCobra 12:31, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

@SVTCobra: Perhaps, but COM:TOO Netherlands is not clear to me.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:28, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Здравствуйте. Простите за беспокойство. Я какие фото скачиваю, авторсками правами ? CalalC99 (talк) 19:28, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Jeff G. I was wondering if you could take a look at these images uploaded by this user. They somehow seem to be out of scope and also, poor quality. Thank you for your time.Lotje (talk) 13:51, 27 September 2019 (UTC)

@Lotje: Hi, and thanks for noticing. I tagged them with speedy deletion tags referencing COM:CSD#F10. If that fails, we can nominate them for regular deletion.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:50, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

hello, I create for CalalC99 logos of political parties - you have written to him copyright infringement - before I do a lot of unnecessary work I wanted to clarify what you say (see my disk page) - thank you and greetings

Hi, and thanks for asking. In Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by CalalC99, the user pretended to be "Milli Majlis Republic of Azerbaijan", that is, the National Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan, yet they don't claim to communicate in Azerbaijani. I have trouble believing them without OTRS confirmation.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:50, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: sorry for german - i just want to knwo if there are any problems with copyright about the logos below - Calal99 want me to convert/create more logos from Aserbaidschan - what do you think? i spend lots of time for that - thanks --Mrmw (talk) 17:41, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
