@Lefcentreright: Hello, Jeff - hope you are doing well. I hope I am not intruding or being a nuisance. Over the past few days, I have been trying to contact the GCIS people, but to no avail. Either I receive an e-mail stating that their inboxes are "full" or they are just blatantly ignoring my e-mails. The South African Communications Department has been noted as one of the most ineffective departments in the South African government. Furthermore, the government's default license for publishing images is CC-BY-NC which is not allowed on Commons. I knew that they publish images under that specific license, so when I first asked them for an image of the Free State Premier Mrs Ntombela, I sent an e-mail EXPLICITLY stating that:

"Since Wikipedia aims to be a repository of images and information that anyone can use, even in nations where generous the United States "fair use" provisions are inapplicable, we can only use images that are released under a so-called "free license", which permits anyone else to use, modify, or deal commercially with the image concerned if they wish, provided there is appropriate attribution and that any modifications are released under an identical license.

Example licenses that would permit us to use a better-quality image would be: the GNU Free Documentation License <http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html> or the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license <https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/legalcode>. Be assured if you do not grant permission or provide such an image, we will not use one without permission. You are under no obligation to release any material under such licenses, but I thought that for public-relations purposes, you might want to consider it given Wikipedia's great popularity."

The person whom I contacted, immediately referred to someone else to handle the request. I filled in an application form once again stating that the image must be under a "free license". They accepted my application form and gave me the image. I believe that the statement (stating that my request has been approved) that they sent back to me was one of a template used by the government. In short, they consented to me publishing the image on Commons and Wikipedia.

I then sent the statement to OTRS and got a reply from you explaining that I need more clarity from the government. So after multiple e-mails to the government, here I am again. Can you please help me resolve this issue? It would greatly be appreciated. I can send some of the initial e-mails for more proof or I can just keep asking. Kind regards. I have forwarded it to the Permission-Wikimedia Commons e-mail inbox and received a confirmation e-mail. Can you please maybe have a look at it. It would be greatly appreciated. Hello, I am glad to share my views about Wiki Loves Love, yes it was a wonderful experience to see wonderful pictures that depict the love, i request to say that i am a student and i was so busy in my exams so i was not able to check my mail, but i just checked my mail and felt so happy to see myself as a postcard winner, but felt brokenhearted when saw that last date was 10th April, so i request you if it is possible to get my prize delivered, it will mean a lot to me. Being a poet, i am very sensitive from heart, i participated in a number of national as well as international poetry programs.

Context matters

[1] "It's not as uncommon as you think" - No, but how many of them are == Speedy deletation ==?, as all of those by these socks were (some of which you can't see any more because they are on deleted file/talk pages), on copyvio images of the same person, with similarly fashioned filenames, and a similar penchant for messing with bogus "OTRS" tags/emails when challenged... A single-word search result is one thing, but context matters. Anyway, they are blocked now, so not an issue. -- Begoon 00:26, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Advice needed on copyright

If is said that "In a fair amount of cases, a logo is considered a trademark without also being a copyright. This is most often the case for simple logos that only contain letters or simple geometric shapes. The rationale here is that such simple logos do not meet the threshold of originality required under U.S. copyright law." Image copyright

Jeff, long time reader newbie contributor. I attempted to upload an image File:Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon.jpg. It was challenged on copyright issues. I have engaged Lani Garfield on numerous occasions for professional photoshoots and to purchase photographs she has taken of me. I have this particular image on a CD of images that were created by Ms. Garfield under a paid photo session agreement. I own all rights to this photograph. Thank you for reconsidering. I once asked User:林高志 where the photo was taken, but he did not reply. As far as I can see, he had said the same thing to many people on his talk page. He claims that he is a 72-year-old man and can not remember where each photo was taken. That's why I chose to use "Unidentified locations" category.
