I received the message you left on my talk page. You see just one example of User:Panoramio upload bot, because I have long noticed that it often make mistakes in file naming. Click on the Camera location to see the location of the creek is not at the Beigang River; even the current most detailed map books(from what I can find) can not find its name. In fact, you see in the file that this creek is nameless. You can try looking for this book "台灣1/25000全覽百科地圖集第二冊" by 馬路灣 in Traditional Chinese. I was seen on the zone 10C of page 195.--Kai3952 (talk) 10:17, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

@Kai3952: Thank you. I am considering the name File:Unnamed creek bed under Qingfeng Road bridge, Renai Township, Nantou.jpg. @Chongkian: Do you have anything you would like to share about this subject?   — Jeff G. ツ 11:24, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Do you think that "Unnamed" is its name?--Kai3952 (talk) 21:43, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
@Kai3952: No, perhaps File:Creek bed under Qingfeng Road bridge, Renai Township, Nantou.jpg?   — Jeff G. ツ 14:07, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
I think naming this file "A dry creek bed in Alang Gluban" will be more accurate. Not to mention that Alang Gluban is already in Renai Township.--Kai3952 (talk) 15:35, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
@Kai3952: Would Alang Gluban be in or near one of the villages listed at en:Ren'ai, Nantou? Also, there are wet parts of that creek bed, so it is not completely dry.   — Jeff G. ツ 16:27, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
"Alang Gluban" comes from the aboriginal pronunciation of Seediq, so you can not find in en.wikipedia.org or other wikis. I was seen on the website of Taiwan's Indigenous Peoples Portal about Alang Gluban. If you can read Chinese for Alang Gluban that it is better. Some good information can be obtained by typing "清流部落" on Google search. The picture can be seen here: [1], [2]. So, I think that this proves its location. Do you still doubt that Alang Gluban is one of the villages listed at en:Ren'ai, Nantou?--Kai3952 (talk) 18:27, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
@Kai3952: Given the information in the links you sent and Google's English translation of http://web.archive.org/web/20120304094248/http://www.renai.gov.tw/content/index.php?m=1&m1=8&m2=77 , how about "File:Creek bed under Qingfeng Road bridge, Alang Gluban, Mutual Help Village, Renai Township, Nantou"? It appears Alang Gluban is actually a tribe in Mutual Help Village, but I don't know the transliteration of Mutual Help from Chinese to English.   — Jeff G. ツ 02:47, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
Yes, Alang Gluban are an Seediq Aboriginal tribe in Ren'ai Township, Nantou County. But I do not understand why you want to give the name that its length is so long. Have you considered like this name: "A creek bed in Alang Gluban"?--Kai3952 (talk) 08:21, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
@Kai3952: ✓ Done, File:A creek bed in Alang Gluban.jpg, I had to append ".jpg". Thank you for your help.   — Jeff G. ツ 03:03, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

Original upload logs

By their nature, they're intended to document what information was supplied with the file as it was first uploaded (not to be an area for you to offer snarky grammar corrections). If you alter what's there, then it isn't "original" any more... AnonMoos (talk) 00:04, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

Categorization of files

Hi Jeff G. can you take a look at the categories of this file? Imo they all should be in English. Thank you for your time. :) Lotje (talk) 05:40, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

No worry, Jeff G., I'll ping Mardetanha Lotje (talk) 05:54, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

Custom license marker

‎SteinsplitterBot is removing all the custom license markers, so it might be better to leave this task to the bot. Guanaco (talk) 07:01, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

@Guanaco: Ok, thanks for letting me know.   — Jeff G. ツ 07:05, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
Hello, You used a insecure regex pattern. For example, here the license has been removed as well. Please re-check all your replacements. Thanks. --Steinsplitter (talk) 12:03, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
@Steinsplitter: Sorry, I did not realize that. What would have been a more secure regex pattern? I am re-checking all my replacements in reverse chronological order, as RL allows.   — Jeff G. ツ 15:20, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
@Steinsplitter and Guanaco: ✓ Done.   — Jeff G. ツ 22:04, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Spelling mistake

Hi, Jeff G., I was wondering if you could replace the spelling mistake here? Saturday instead of saterday? Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 12:06, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

@Lotje: I did as much as I could.   — Jeff G. ツ 19:22, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
Thank you Jeff G. Lotje (talk) 19:47, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
@Lotje: You're welcome. Please note there is no need to mention or ping me when posting on my user talk page.   — Jeff G. ツ 19:53, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, my mistake. Lotje (talk) 19:58, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Proposal phrasing

Hiya. Just to be clear I didn't mean to pounce on you. It was a mistake, but I often want to write the same thing myself. I was mostly focused on calling out the dysfunctional !votes. At this point the discussion probably won't generate any meaningful result. Assuming Commons works like EnWiki, this kind of discussion-failure is pretty much grounds for a new, clear, unbiased proposal which can facilitate productive discussion. Admin

— Jeff G. ツ 12:22, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi, please read the conversation in the OTRS ticked carefully. It contains a permission from the photographer Benjamin Hentel. Jcb (talk) 15:25, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

@Jcb: I did. Images from Radswiki are in Category:Images from RadsWiki and tagged with {{Radswiki-attribution}}, which asserts a {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}} license based on Ticket:2013052110003987. The problem is that there is no mention of that specific license, or any specific license, in that ticket.   — Jeff G. ツ 02:03, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
The ticket mentions 'CC BY SA'. It should have had a version number, but back in 2013 we didn't refuse a permission for a lack of the '3.0'. Although in the current practice we would have followed up for this, the ticket seems to be fine compared to the normal practice in 2013. If you wish, you could still send a follow up message in the ticket to see if you can get the situation more clear, sometimes it works. A few weeks ago I sent a follow up message to a 5 years old ticket that was mishandled by the original OTRS agent. (Permission from the representative of the depicted person, no mention of the photographer). It turned out that within a few days we received a personal from the photographer with a valid permission. Photo workshop image

I think the original Tony Blair image and the therefore the one you derivative you make are a problem based on the deletion of this black and white version of the same image that is attributed to "Brian Moody" and does not appear to be licensed under OGL. I was going to nominate it for deletion. Your thoughts before I do so. Ww2censor (talk) 15:44, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

@Ww2censor: Sure, both can go per that DR. We have plenty of photos of him at Tony Blair and Category:Tony Blair & children, File:Tony Blair.jpg looks nice for the article.   — Jeff G. ツ 15:56, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
Ok, I'll do that. The one you mention is good, though small. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 16:04, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
@Ww2censor: Those two files and http://www.conservapedia.com/File:Tblair.jpg could be fair use on enwp.   — Jeff G. ツ 16:13, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
but they would immediately fail w:WP:NFCC because other freely licensed images of Blair are available. Ww2censor (talk) 16:17, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
@Ww2censor: One could argue that there is only one official portrait of him as PM, thus it is an irreplaceable unique historical image. Yes, I've been down a similar road before.   — Jeff G. ツ 16:22, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
Tricky but I've been down enwiki's NFCCs various paths and would doubt that argument would really fly. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 17:01, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Affected:

Yours sincerely, Ww2censor (talk) 16:11, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Oops, I see your speedied one while I was setting up a batch task for both. Sorry about that. Ww2censor (talk) 16:13, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

VFC

Hello, Why are you changing the template like this? --Steinsplitter (talk) 06:47, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

@Steinsplitter: I have been accelerating the process of the emptying of Category:Images from the Geograph British Isles project (due to its rename) by making essentially null edits (changes of capitalization of the first letter of a template very likely to be there or surely there) to the affected files. In doing so, I have been testing performance of VFC with different quantities of files selected on different browsers and shortly different hardware. Do you have a tool for doing fully automatic null edits?   — Jeff G. ツ 07:01, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
Null edit means: 1) Opening the file page 2) clicking on save. Sorry, but you flooded watchlists with nonsense edits, and there is no need at all to test VFC performance - you never ever test stuff in production but in a virtual environment. Please don't do this again. The change will be made aromatically by the jobqueue, which may take a while. No need to flood the api with requests, especially with live x-edits. Sigh. --Steinsplitter (talk) 07:05, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
@Steinsplitter: Ok, sorry.   — Jeff G. ツ 07:09, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

There is Manual:Pywikibot/touch.py for doing true null edits/purges. Guanaco (talk) 07:38, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi Jeff G., I'm User:Raudalkhudri. Previously thanks for commenting on my talk page :). I want to straighten out your views that suspect that I have multiple accounts on Wikimedia. You may suspect that the accounts below are mine: 1. Raud F. al-Khudri 2. Tubagus Yudhistira 3. Mamansuherman

I will try to explain it. First, it is true that Raud F. al-Khudri account is mine (before I created a new account, User:Raudalkhudri), after I left the account, the account was reused by my dormitory friend, and often log in to Wikimedia (on the same computer with my account, Raudalkhudri).

Secondly, Tubagus Yudhistira and Mamansuherman are my dormitory friends, we live in a traditional Pesantren (Pesantren Salaf, also known as the Nahdlatul Ulama Pesantren, a traditional place for studying the religious sciences) in Banten, Indonesia. In traditional Pesantrens unlike in modern Pesantren (whose facilities tend to be more advanced), computers in our dormitory are only one, and we often use them together. Including when we log in at Wikimedia, we always log in alternately. So maybe that's why you think me (or us) is a Sockpuppetry account.

I appeal to you and other Wikimedia administrators to give us a second chance, and be able to tolerate our activities that always log in on Wikimedia interchangeably (we do not log in on mobile, because in our Pesantren we are not allowed to carry electronic devices like mobile phones and laptops).

Salam hormat, User:Raudalkhudri :) 112.215.238.52 17:52, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

Jeff, Thanx. Kind of u. Want2giv btr critique?Yea or nay? Rev Carol — Preceding unsigned comment added by REV CAROL (talk • contribs) 02:14, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

@REV CAROL: Since you asked:
  1. Title page: should read "Shook" rather than "Shock".
  2. Text: should be in mixed case rather than full uppercase.
  3. Person: a curious mix of third person and first person.
  4. Misspellings (Word has a spellchecker) & other errors: OFTHE, CHRUCH, GRAHM, CAROLCONSOLIDATED, 2202, WANTINGTO, REFARDING, CAROLS', REVCAROL, SIME, GOD SAYS ITS' GOOD, DUSHES, and THEBAPTISM.
  5. Missing info: last name, names of more organizations worked for, etc.
  6. Photo: seems to drift off the right side of the page, it should fit.

I've deleted these files. They are clearly outside the project scope, which does not include personal essays or documents of a personal, non-notable nature. Guanaco (talk) 02:53, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
Ok then.   — Jeff G. ツ 11:21, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Incorrect grammar

Hello, Jeff G. . " 私のユーザーのページを見なさい " is incorrect on here. It should be " 私のユーザーページを見てください / 私のユーザーページをご覧ください " because " 見なさい " is used to communicate with person ( low social status ) such as " parents to their children " or " teachers to students " in Japanese.

見ろ! > 見なさい。> 見てください。> ご覧ください。
For order > For advice > For request > For request ( unknown person or first meeting )

Please don't mind my opinion. Thank you. Gm King (talk) 03:53, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi Jeff G., I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Jeff G./common.css. Glad to see you coding in css! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 4 new prettyCss issues — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in css writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!
