Because it was done. Shouldn't I? I like tideness ;) Masur (talk) 17:48, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for completing the request. Since Wikipedia values transparency, I think it would have been better to note on that talk page that the request had been completed, rather than deleting the talk page and leaving non-admins in the dark. You could, of course, have set up archiving for that talk page to keep it tidy.   — Jeff G. ツ 04:33, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Jeff:

As you know, non-admins may close DRs if they are non-controversial -- given that the only delete vote beyond the nom was yours, I think that we can say it was non-controversial. However, you do that under your own name, not by putting an unsigned comment "Kept by Jameslwoodward in this edit."

When I choose not to close a DR, it usually because I have made a substantive comment and want to give the community time to discuss it. It's up to me to make that choice, not you. Apparently you've changed your mind, so as the only delete vote, you could close it with a comment like,

"Kept - Changed my mind. Jeff G.",

or wait for another Admin to do it.

Regards,      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 19:31, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

You made two out of the three advisable edits to be done when an Administrator keeps a file, including "Kept"[1] and "{{kept}}"[2]. I assumed that you forgot to close the actual DR. I'm sorry if I overstepped. I see you have reverted my close. Why did you make those two edits if the DR wasn't yet closed? Thanks!   — Jeff G. ツ 03:22, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Also, Odea's Deletion Request should also have counted as a "Delete" !vote.   — Jeff G. ツ 03:24, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Regarding the signature, I was following the instruction "Sign." at Commons:Deletion requests#How_to_close_the_discussion. Where are other instructions I should have followed instead, that say not to sign?   — Jeff G. ツ 03:33, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
OK, it's a draw. The script that we use for closing DRs has 2+ required clicks -- one to keep/delete each image and one to close the DR. I forgot to click the latter, so, as you say, two parts out of three were done, but not the last. I then forgot that I had intended to close it and slapped your wrist. I apologize for that oversight. My only excuse is that I do around 1,400 edits and 1,000 Administrative actions a month, so remembering something that happened a week earlier is not going to happen.
I -- or one of my colleagues -- forgets half of the process maybe once a week. Some of us will put a note on the Admin's talk page and ask if he/she overlooked it. Others will close it with a comment such as, "Finished incomplete closure ~~~~" There's also a bot that cleans up under some combinations of error.
As for signing, yes, by all means sign your action with your name, but not mine. I would have been fine if you wrote something along the lines of "Finished incomplete closure started by User:Jameslwoodward ~~~~". But leaving your own name off the action is not the way we do things.
So, again, I'm sorry for my part in the confusion, but don't forget to sign your work.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 13:20, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
I accept your apology, and offer one in return for not signing this edit. I was planning to, I thought I had when I wrote my message of 03:33 above, and I agree I should have. I was not trying to impersonate you with that edit, just trying to report the facts. Thank you for closing the DR properly, and for discussing civilly. Also, given your signature, it appears that "Jim Woodward" is an available username, unused on all WMF projects.   — Jeff G. ツ 04:14, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Interesting thought on the name. I prefer my full name because it more clearly identifies me in the real world, but I've just created User:Jim Woodward to reserve it. Thanks.
BTW, I hope you are thinking about an RfA at some point. We can use the help.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 12:09, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I did already. See Commons:Requests and votes/Jeff G. for details.   — Jeff G. ツ 14:50, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for opening old wounds.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 18:30, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Not wounds, learning experiences. I have learned much in the three years since then.   — Jeff G. ツ 00:52, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
