First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Merci de fournir des images au projet Wikimedia Commons. Gardez à l'esprit que les images déposées sur le serveur devraient pouvoir être utilisées par l'ensemble des utilisateurs des projets Wikimedia. Ceci n'est possible que si les images peuvent être trouvées par d'autres personnes que vous.

Pour permettre aux autres de trouver les images que vous avez déposées ici, ces images devraient être classées de manière pertinente dans les catégories, de manière à ce qu'en navigant dans l'arbre des catégories on puisse les retrouver. Ceci signifie que vous devez ranger les images dans les bonnes catégories et, si possible, ajouter les images sur les pages correspondant au sujet (les galeries) (voir Commons:Categories).

Ce qui est important, c'est que les images soient placées quelque part dans la structure générale. Il y a actuellement un grand nombre d'images sans aucun lien avec le système de classement sur Commons. Si vous désirez donner un coup de main pour ranger certaines de ces images à un endroit où on pourra les trouver, n'hésitez pas !

you created and use Category:Vincent. However this name should be a normal topic category about all "Vincent" stuff. Not your pictures. You should create your user category under Category:Files by Imac.vincent using {{Usercat}}. And move all files to this new category.

The same applies for Vincent. This page should be a gallery about the topic "Vincent" - not anything for your user needs. You should change all links pointing to there to [[User:Imac.vincent|Vincent]] and have the page Vincent deleted then.

My name is Daniel, i used that picture in my little "travel around the world" puzzle game for android.

When a player sees your image (when completing a level) there is a short sentence describing the location visible on your panorama and also you are credited directly as "Photographer". Hopefully you are fine with that, if you want any changes please contact me directly. :-)

Acacia bidwillii[edit]

The photograph was taken in the western foothills of Mount Archer, Central Queensland. If you want more precise details, it was in the "First Turkey" section of Mount Archer National Park. 23o 19' 41" S 150o 33' 04"E to within 100 metres.

Re your later requests. Pictures of local Acacia farnesiana you can now find in the appropriate category. It's not the best time of year to photograph this species, since they are semi-deciduous around here, and they are just coming back into leaf now. If you can wait until December/January I can probably get better images. Talking about the "natural" habitat of farnesiana in Australia gets a bit tricky. Assuming it is a pre-European introduction, it would have occurred in that locale, but it would originally have been open Euc. melanophloia savanna, not grassland. These days about the only place you will find farnesiana in relatively undisturbed habitat is out in the Mitchell grasslands. Not that that would look much different to the images I have provided.

Acacia pachyphloia I've never heard of, but it seems to be a Top End/WA species. so it's outside my territory. I only cover Queensland, and mostly CQ. Not sure what you mean by "Acacia bidwillii among gum trees". I've posted a couple of images of corkwood growing amongst ironbarks and ghost gums. They are poor images: the plants were growing on a western slope and I was trying to get some shots before it started raining again this afternoon. However they should give you an idea of the type of stuff I can get readily. This is close to home so I can get better shots some afternoon if the rain ever stops. If that's not the sort of thing you're thinking of, if you can explain what you do' want I'll see if I can think of anywhere to get it.
