Commons:Deletion requests/own photographs violatoing COM:FOP

Hi Ilya,

I've been looking through some old deletion discussions, and it seems to me that this one is ready to close. Given the restrictions on use and the copyright status of old works in Russia, I am planning on deleting all images save for those of works created before 1917 (and thus subject to {{PD-RusEmpire}}).

I noticed that you asked for this discussion to be left alone for a while while ru-wiki prepares to transfer some of the images, and I wanted to know if there has been any progress on this. Thank you very much! --jonny-mt 04:51, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Jonny. Thanks a lot for your message! Give us some time (one week at least) please to perform the transfer and to prepare some "transferring infrastructure" (both in terms of technology and in terms of changing local rules to allow some of that images exist on ru-wiki) for next discussions of this kind (I believe, they will be a much more shorter due to the current precedent). Unfortunately, some of active ru-wiki admins including me a little busy right now due to activating FlaggedRevs extension on ru-wiki, so I even can't say you anything about the current progress of our internal discussion on this question. Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!
