Fixing images

Hey, cool that you got image editing working! One problem though, you seem to be editing lower res versions of the images! You can see it if you compare with the res of the original versions. Also, the halluxes on the Sciurumimus are on the wrong side, they should be in the inwards side. FunkMonk (talk) 02:10, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Fixed Sciurumimus image, larger res also. IJReid (talk) 03:46, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Only problem with the Abrictosaurus image, I cannot make the image larger without having to redo the corrections, which took quite a while to do. Is there a shortcut to increasing image resolution I am not aware of, or do I have to do it the old fashioned way (which I can tolerate having to do)? IJReid (talk) 03:55, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
I'd just copy the new parts and scale them up, then adjust them so they don't look pixelated or fuzzy. I've done this manually plenty of times, heheh... FunkMonk (talk) 04:00, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. The image editing program I am using is not something your probably accustomed to, it is Pixlr editor, which is one of the best things I can find for a mac. IJReid (talk) 13:37, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Weird, you edit directly in the browser? FunkMonk (talk) 13:53, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Yup. Works quite well, it allows you to zoom in extremely small areas to draw thin lines, although when you upload it it retains the original image size. IJReid (talk) 13:59, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
By the way, the eye here[1] should probably be twice as small. The visible eye should never exceed the size of the inner side of the sclrotic ring.[2] The nostril should also be confined to the front part of the nares. FunkMonk (talk) 18:26, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Fixed. One strange thing, in all the images I have corrected, a grey line appears at the bottom of the thumbnail, even though it does not appear in the actual image. IJReid (talk) 23:38, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Albertosaurus scale

Hi, I noticed you created a scale chart of albertosaurines based on my Albertosaurus scale diagram. This is ok because the original license says derivative works are allowed. However, you violated the CC license for my work in two ways: 1) failure to credit me as the original artist, and 2) failure to retain the same license for the derivative work as the original. For future reference, you are not allowed to make a new image based on an old image without crediting the original artist and keeping the same license. you cannot take a licensed image, tweak it, and release it into the public domain. I have fixed these issues on the albertosaurine scale chart, but please make sure you read and understand the terms of the licensing agreement before making future derivative works. Thanks, Dinoguy2 (talk) 11:43, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

Sorry User:Dinoguy2. I had originally modified someone else's diagram for the original, and once modifying yours, I forgot to change the licensing and authorship. Sorry again - IJReid (talk) 14:26, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi IJReid, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Thanks for uploading File:Megachile campanulae distribution.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

No required license templates were detected at this file page. Please correct it, or if you have any questions please check my FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 13:05, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello IJReid,

I have reverted the file to the uncropped version for the following reason: The image is as yet implemented only in the de:WP article Joggins Fossil Cliffs. In that article it exemplifies the exhibition in the Joggins Fossil Centre or the fact that there are specimens on display which are not from the Joggins Carboniferous, respectively. Hence not the very Eoraptor skull (cast) is of interest but the fact that it is on display at Joggins. Consequently, it is intended that the “museal ambience” is visible in the image. If you would like to have a cropped image of the Eoraptor skull, please upload it as a separate file. Cheers! --Gretarsson (talk) 16:29, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Regisaurus

Hi,I'm not Sure why did you revent This.the image has already been at the paleoart review and has been deemed inaccurate.it has later been fixed but the posture one of the legs does not match to the posture of the other legs.thanks--Anningia (talk) 12:26, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Actually, if you look at the image revisions, it was corrected very recently, after the discussion. Also, how does the left back leg not match the posture of the other legs? IJReid (talk) 14:23, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
if you compare File:regisaurus1DB.jpg withFile:regisaurus.jpg then you'll note that the leg appears to be over-stretched,as if it was swimming.so if it would walk like that then it would had one leg in the groundAnningia (talk) 14:43, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
Well yes, is does look slightly like it is swimming, however, the leg is not over-stretched. It is better to compare a skeletal diagram to an illustration, because in some cases the other image is inaccurate as well (too big eye, too skinny). It might be best to ping FunkMonk to comment in DB's illustration, as he knows more about the subject than either of us. IJReid (talk) 14:49, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
I've already emailed him,but he didn't understand what I meant--Anningia (talk) 14:52, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Edmontosaurus species categories

As it seems that Anatosaurus may be split off again, and as Dinohuy is splitting the species articles off; I was thinking we could make individual species categories for annectens and regalis, as they are way overcrowded, and it is hard to figure out which image depicts which species. So it will take some identification work, so could need some help. What do you think? FunkMonk (talk) 15:15, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Sure, I'll help. IJReid (talk) 17:28, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Dinosaur colors/Raptorex kriegsteini

Could you point me to a source suggesting that Raptorex (or non-avian dinosaurs, or tyrannosauroids or whatever) "Couldn't be green or blue", as you put it on the image page? I’m aware of a few cases of research on dinosaur color (mostly Sinosauropteryx and Archaeopteryx), but none on Raptorex–nor any integument having been preserved in the first place. Also, both extant birds and extant non-avian reptiles are known for sporting green and blue pigments (e.g. 1 2), so how was it concluded that this taxon could not have had this color? I presume that you are aware of something that I’m not, but it would be nice of you could give a reference so that others can benefit from that knowledge. --Ornitholestes (talk) 22:24, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

The problem is the type of feather not the type of animal. Downy "dinofuzz", as depicted here, cannot have such colours. FunkMonk (talk) 23:00, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
Apparently, but what I was looking for was a source elaborating on that.--Ornitholestes (talk) 23:16, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
I think DInoguy2 wrote it up somewhere, perhaps in the dinosaur image review archives... FunkMonk (talk) 23:35, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I mostly learned my dinosaurian anatomy for illustrations by looking at old image review archives, and the guidelines page. But other that that I'm not aware of any papers on the subject. IJReid (talk) 00:36, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Dinosaurs

Hi Iain Reid ! About the dinosaurs, for an artist view of a fossil animal, we're forced to use & follow the precedent sculptures or drawings (if they are accurate) by fidelity to the scientific validation. But I change some details. If you think than it's a copyviol of my sources, do for the best, no problem for me. The better solution, in my opinion, is the substitution of my drawings by yours, because you are a good graphist. Regards, --Spiridon Ion Cepleanu (talk) 18:20, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

It had non-comm restrictions. It wasn't directly in regards to you anyways. Your notification was a quirk of using VFC since you did a revert on one of the uploads. Sorry about that. VFC notifies everyone that has ever overwritten the image instead of just the original uploader. Should have realized it went to more than just the original uploader and cleaned up the notifications. All that needs to change is the licensing then.--Bubblesorg (talk) 00:21, 12 June 2018 (UTC) So you agree?--Bubblesorg (talk) 00:30, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Yes the one thing that needs to change is the license on the original website, from CC-BY-NC-ND to simply CC-BY. IJReid (talk) 00:37, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Megantereon

I did not upload that file. so Megantereon restoration is not mine i only put it in the article.

I don't send the messages to your talk page those are automated when the image is nominated for deletion. IJReid (talk) 04:21, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Congratulations, Dear license reviewer

If you use the helper scripts, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-.

Hi IJReid, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:

importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
importScript('User:Majora/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.freenode.net. You can also add {{User license reviewer}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! – Kwj2772 (talk) 17:01, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

File:Coahuilaceratops.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Guaibasaurus skeletal.gif. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Emausaurus

  • Emausaurus Skull has Haubold (1990) cited as the main reference. But, in any case i will clarify it was outlined from it. All Original credit so goes to Haubold (1990), stated on the Page of the Picture.
  • Yewtharaptor 14:05 UTM
A direct outlining is still a violation of copyright. IJReid (talk) 18:03, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
