First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Block Request at Wikipedia[edit]

Please block User:Nick-D because he thought iam Holy Child Student-- User:Bababa67 Talk 18:33 January 29, 2015, Thursday

No, for a couple of reasons. First of all, I find the evidence linking you to Holy Child Student rather compelling. Secondly, competence is required when editing Wikipedia, and I see preciously little of that from you. I just had to fix your signature's timestamp on this very page so it doesn't change whenever someone else edits the page; I told you about similar problems on Wikipedia, and ultimately I was the one who had to clean up after you because you could not (or would not) repair your own templates. Thirdly, I will not block someone on Wikipedia because I get a note on the Commons, and even if Nick-D were wrong about you being Holy Child Student, that would not be a blockable offence. And fourthly, even if I were in the habit of blocking other admins on your say-so, that wouldn't help you in the least. If you think unblocking you would be beneficial to Wikipedia, please explain the reasons on your talk page over there, using the unblock template as advised in the block message. Refluxdonut, then firstly you should disclose your conflict of interest. The last time we spoke, you said you're "an acquaintance of his", now you're his father. And secondly, the image's metadata says "(c)KenRockwell.com (858) 453-2099". I rather don't think the name of Milen's father is Ken Rockwell, and KenRockwell.com is the website of a professional photographer. I don't know why, but this photo was taken in our own home with our own camera that we had bought from a nearby Nikon store. If you want more confirmation, I can email you other photos from the same photoshoot.

Hello Huon, thanks for your message and the hint. I am still relatively inexperienced with Wikipedia entries and have actually only paid attention to the attribute Creative Commons - the difference between attribution and non-commercial was not clear to me yet. This is a pity, but not to change, the pictures would have been a very nice support for the articles ... But I learned something for the next time :-).
