A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:GN15098.tif, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file ([[:File:GN15098.tif]]).

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Images-GN07551.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

@JuTa: I propose to add {{PD-Australia}} and {{PD-US-1996}} to this file and other files uploaded by User:Htsa. --NearEMPTiness (talk) 07:19, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NearEMPTiness, yep: sounds sensefull not only for this image but for most of his uploads. --JuTa 07:47, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Categorizing[edit]

Hi, please have a look at Commons:FAQ#How do I best categorize my own pictures? We don't use general keyword tags like "Landscapes", "Women" or "Heritage buildings" to organize files. A file should be put in the most specific category/categories that fit(s). Also, please use categories that actually exist. E.g., Category:Adelaide, South Australia doesn't exist, Category:Adelaide does (but in most cases is still too general). Thank you. --Sitacuisses (talk) 07:08, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is a tool called cat-a-lot that you can activate under preferences. It helps me to find categories as the schema can be confusing Gbawden (talk) 07:51, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I was going to add Template:Use sub-categories on your talk page, but it seems two editors have already started a discussion about your use of categories. The re-adding of the categories that I altered at File:Cape Jaffa Lighthouse(GN00607).jpg was the reason I came here. Please try to use categories correctly, thanks. --Jokulhlaup (talk) 07:53, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Errors[edit]

Thank you for uploading the photos of "500 Class Mountain Type Locomotive Engine". Could you double-check the tool that you use please: There is an error being displayed and no categories in all these files. --NearEMPTiness (talk) 13:42, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please press the "Edit" tab on one of your files and compare the unusual display with that of other uploaders. --NearEMPTiness (talk) 13:52, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In addition: From what I see there is unfortunately a missing linebreak between the end of the infobox and the start of the next section and also between the end of the section title and the license tag. Situation now:

}}== {{int:license-header}} =={{

How it should be (another linebreak before the section would be even better for source readibility):

}}
== {{int:license-header}} ==
{{

From the technical point of view it is quite easy to fix this mistake, but almost (?) all uploaded files in cat. Uploaded by Htsa are affected, and just because of the amount it is not that easy to fix for an ordinary user. — Speravir – 00:36, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

500 Class Mountain Type Locomotive Engine
@Speravir: I am currently discussing with the operator of SchlurcherBot, whether a bot could repair these files. The history of the photo of the 500 Class Mountain Type Locomotive Engine shows step by step what needs to be repaired, please. --NearEMPTiness (talk) 07:09, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
User:Steinsplitter has kindly repaired the source code by now. I am confident that it matches your needs. --NearEMPTiness (talk) 08:51, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this maitake has been fixed for the existing files, but it is important to avoid this in the future, a swell.

The other mistake I actually overlooked at first consists in using the bare pipe sign (|) inside of a template, here {{Photograph}}. Htsa, it would be better to use a slash (/) or a hyphen sign (-), but if you insist on the pipe you must encode this. You can either use HTML encoding (two variants: | or &x7c;do not copy from wiki source, because I had to add a further encoding for the &) or a special combination explicitly developed for pipe use inside of templates, {{!}}.
This said the text with pointing to a hint of someone named “G. Brooks” does not make any sense for other users without linking to this hint. A more general hint that the title was changed because of user information would probably more useful.

@Htsa: I noted that you mention the following source: "The History Trust of South Australian, South Australian Government". I guess the correct title would be "The History Trust of South Australia, an agency of the South Australian Government" (Similar to the last line on https://history.sa.gov.au/. If you confirm the correct spelling/wording, we could request that the necssary changes are done by a bot.--NearEMPTiness (talk) 05:51, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Red links[edit]

By now, most of the 13,000 photographs have been checked and categorized. What are the next steps? Should we insert some of them into the relevant Wikipedia articles? Should we write new Wikipedia articles, in which the photos will be used? During the categorization, I noted that articles about some of the following topics are still missing (please check en:Portal talk:Australia#13,000 photos of South Australia to see the red links displayed in red):

Who is interested in writing an article about one or some these topics? --NearEMPTiness (talk) 19:25, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution.
