First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)

Wirkkalan kantarelli

Onko jokin syy, miksi File:Kantarelli 1956.jpg voi olla täällä? Wirkkalahan kuoli vasta 25 vuotta sitten. En sinänsä ole varma taideteollisen muotoilun statuksesta, käyttöesineiden kuviahan saa julkaista ilman lupaa, taideesineiden ei. --LPfi (talk) 13:58, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Huoh. Latasin kuvan Commonsiin maaliskuussa 2009 ja lisäsin sen fi-Wikin Tapio Wirkkala -sivulle saman tein. Commons-käyttäjä poisti kuvan Commonsista maaliskuussa 2010 copyvion takia ja sitten joku, jonka mielestä se on käyttöesine, palautti sen takaisin. Kantarelli on käyttöesine, maljakko, ainakin sellaisena sitä myydään ja se on syy, miksi kuva lienee täällä. Minä olen ladannut sen vain kerran enkä muusta tiedä. Fi-wikissa on uusi kuva samasta aiheesta. Htm (talk) 17:46, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

California Chamber of Commerce in San Francisco

Thank you. I couldn't remember what street I was on when I took pictures of the building in San Francisco. GFDL-tagien poistaminen

Hei! Huomasin, että olet poistanut GFDL-lisenssitageja lukuisista tallentamistasi tiedostoista? Olethan varmistunut, että tämä on mahdollista Commonsin sääntöjen mukaan? Tiedostot toki edelleen ovat lisensoituja jonkin toisen vapaan lisenssin (esim. CC-BY-SA-3.0) alla, mutta noin yleisestihän Commonsissa käytetyt lisenssit ovat peruuttamattomia. Moi. Olen edelleen valokuvien tekijänoikeuksien haltija, olen harkinnut pGFDL-tagin oistoa ja tuota peruuttamattomuutta pitkään ja hartaasti ja päättänyt, että yhden lisenssin käyttö on yksinkertaisempaa. En näe poistolle mitään estettä, koska kaikilla kuvilla on myös CC-lisenssi, joka on kaikin puolin joustavampi ja käyttäjäystävällisempi, mitä tulee esimerkiksi lisenssin julkaisuun kuvien julkaisun yhteydessä (Commonsissa on jossain pitkä ohjesivu lisensseistä ja niiden käytöstä ja DFGL:n ongelmasta, voin laittaa tänne linkin kunhan löydän sivun uudestaan). -Käsitin niin, että GFDL:ta ei ole edes suunniteltu esimerkiksi kuviane lisenssointiin alun perin). -Kun kuvia käytetään Wikimedia-säätiön projekteissa, niin käsittääkseni se ei tuota mitään ongelmaa. Wikimedia-säätiön ulkopuolisille käyttäjillekään ongelmaa ei tule: jos he ovat julkaisseet kuvat GFDL-lisenssin mukaan ennen kuin poistin tagin, se ei vaikuta heihin mitenkään eikä se vaikuta myöskään niiden julkaisujen (ennen tagin poistoa) jatkokäyttäjiin. -Olen napsinut kuvia ja tallentanut niitä Commonsiin tarkoituksenani kuvittaa Wikipedia-tietosanakirjaa. Ongelmana kuvien käytössä Wikimedia-säätiön projektien ulkopuolella on se, että välillä kuvia käytetään niinkuin ne olisivat käyttäjien omia (päinvastaisiakin tapauksia tietysti on ja ne aina ilahduttavat ja tuottavat roppakaupalla hyvää mieltä). Vaikka kuvalla olisi viisi lisenssiä, niin niistä ei välitetä tuon taivaallista. Erityisesti minua kyrsii suomalaisten media-alan toimijoiden piittaamattomuus jopa Suomen tekijänoikeuslainsäädännöstä ja erityisesti piittaamattomuus tekijänoikeuslain 3 § turvaamasta ns. isyysoikeudesta. Juu, totta on, ettei GFDL ole mitenkään kovin järkevä lisenssi kuvien kanssa. Mitä tulee kuvien luvattomaan käyttöön, niin sehän on ongelma kaikkien internetissä julkaistujen kuvien osalta, olivatpa ne julkaistu jollain vapaalla lisenssillä tai ei. Sikäli, kun suomalalainen media käyttää kuvia lisenssin tai tekijänoikeuslain vastaisesti (Minäkin olen joskus löytänyt lehdistä tai lehtien www-sivuilta Commonsista otettuja kuvia – en tosin omiani – ilman mitään lähdemerkintöjä), niin minä lähettäisin näissä tapauksissa heille suoraan laskun kuvan luvattomasta käytöstä. ––Apalsola t • c 09:15, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear Htm,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

  • In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
  • In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

  1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
  2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
  3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Sbasibo (tms). Tallensin sen fi-wikiin sitaattikuvana. Tekijän nimeä ei ole julkistettu (eikä varmaan vähään aikaan julkistetakaan), joten saa olla jonkinlainen sitaattikuva. Laatta on aika korkealla ja otin muitakin kuvia eri kulmista, myös suoraan edestä. Reijät vaikuttavat aivan liian siisteiltä ammutuiksi, veikkaisin porakonetta tekovälineeksi. Suomen kilpailuun lähetettiin yhteensä 3464 kuvaa 98 kuvaajalta. Näistä valittiin 10 valokuvaa kansainvälisen kansainväliseen finaaliin. Tuomaristoon kuuluivat valokuvataiteilija Mojo Erämetsä, graafikko Tommi Kovala, rehtori Riitta Moisander, vierailijaprofessori Elina Paasonen, valokuvaaja Jussi Tiainen ja valokuvaaja Soile Tirilä.

Suomen kilpailusarjan voittaja julkistetaan palkintojenjakotilaisuudessa Kansallismuseon Ateljeessa Mannerheimintie 34, Helsinki 18.11.2018 klo 13.00. Tervetuloa!

Altogether 3464 images from 98 photographers participated in the Finnish competition. 10 photos were chosen for the international final. The jury members were photography artist Mojo Erämetsä, graphic designer Tommi Kovala, rector Riitta Moisander, visiting professor Elina Paasonen, photographer Jussi Tiainen and photographer Soile Tirilä.

The winner of the Finnish competition will be announced at the award ceremony at the National Museum of Finland Atelier Mannerheimintie 34, Helsinki 18 November at 1.00 pm. Welcome!
