First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel irc:wikimedia-commons #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|correct name}}

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Bonjour.

Tu as demandé il y a environ un an la suppression de Thaksin-affiche.jpg, car tu pensais qu'il ne pouvait être réutilisé que sous le régime du fair use, lequel est interdit sur Commons.

Or il se trouve qu'il s'agit d'une affiche qui a été prise dans un lieu public en Thaïlande (cf. historique du fichier sur Wikipédia avant manipulation), et en conséquence, peut bénéficier de la liberté de panorama et être distribuée sous licence libre (tu peux le vérifier ici). File:Taux d'intérêt du LEP.svg[edit]

Bonjour, auriez-vous l'amabilité de mettre à jour le fichier en objet qui présente les taux jusqu'à 2010 ? Je tenté de le modifier avec Notepad++ mais je me suis vite aperçu après avoir ajouté l'année 2011 qu'il manque la grille pointillée (arrière-plan). Je n'ai pas le courage de le modifier avec Inkscape. C'est le plus ancien SVG que j'ai trouvé mais si vous avez de nombreux SVG à m'indiquer je pourrais me pencher sur la "nouvelle" manière de faire c'est-à-dire sur l'obsolescence du fichier svg à remplacer par le Modèle:Graph:Chart (issu de Aide:Graphiques_et_diagrammes) Cordialement,--85.68.112.45 17:51, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour. Merci pour votre message mais hélas j'ai créé ce fichier il y a plus de dix ans. Je sais que j'avais utilisé un logiciel pour créer le graphique avant de l'exporter en svg, mais je ne sais plus quel logiciel (je suis presque sûr que ce n'était pas Excel...) et je n'ai plus le fichier original. Il faudrait remettre la main sur le fichier original pour modifier le graphique et le réexporter, car juste en bidouillant le svg dans Notepad++ ou Inkscape ce n'est pas évident. Ou bien le recréer de toutes pièces. Mais je pense effectivement qu'utiliser {{Graph:Chart}} ou tout autre outil de Aide:Graphiques et diagrammes est la meilleure solution par rapport à un svg, eu égard à ces problèmes de mises à jour.

Je viens d'utiliser {{Graph:Chart}} dans Livret d'épargne populaire, ça me semble pas trop mal :) — je n'arrive juste pas à régler l'intervalle sur les abscisses (qui est donc de 5 ans au lieu d'1), mais ça ne me semble pas trop préjudiciable. Hr. Satz 08:05, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
