Sound Logo

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

Request to undo page deletion of User:NamukoloS

Hello Herbythyme. Can I kindly ask you to undo the deletion of this page? Namukolo is a feminist African photographer that just created her page on Commons. She is uploading a bunch of photos that are legitimate, while making her first steps into Commons. If there is something wrong in her user page, I can support her to do improvements, but since she is new, her intention was only to let the community know about her and her work. Thank you! OK - I've created a new page which looks like it has some "intro" content. The real issue I had with the page was that it was intrinsically promotional. There were 4 links to different websites pointing to her work - that feels promotional. A return to that sort of look of page would be unacceptable. I hope you can understand this as an experienced user. Maybe you can assist her to understand and I will certainly help if I can (the page is on my watchlist). Thanks! I only can see a few lines now, not the complete page. Could you please restore the full version? And please, restore her self portrait if possible. Then, I can tell her know how the page can be improved, or even support her editing the page to make it look more aligned with the pattern followed in Commons. I know that her intention wasn't to be promotional, but transparent and visible, in terms of create awareness in the community about her work and the type of content she's contributing. By the way, if you have any recommendation or examples on how a good user page should look like, that would be useful. For instance, I think that external links aren't intrinsically promotional, but maybe there is a necessary balance with internal links (to the user's work or the campaigns they are involved, in this case #VisibleWikiWomen). Actually there were only a couple of bits I did not restore. One was the "scope of her photography" with a link to her work on Vogue. The other section was reference to her being a "household name" with 3 links to her external work. Politely this is self promotional and not something that is part of Commons (or Foundation) rationale.

As to restoring the image it would be polite to request that the deleting admin does that. In practice it would be sensible for all her uploads to be licensed via COM:VRT giving the copyright info in the EXIF section (IIRC). Herby ^{talk thyme} 07:24, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

There were more about her work than just a few bits there, but anyways, I added more information for her, and perhaps she can expand that personally.

I believe that adding external links isn't out of the scope of Commons, and actually I've seen User pages with links to Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, and websites. It is a matter of balance, of course, but self information isn't always be considered promotional, and I've seen lots of users sharing about their work.

More importantly, in this case, the external links provide information that contextualize her copyright, since ENESS PHOTOGRAPHY is her own studio, and that's why appears in the EXIF data of her camera. Señoritaleona (talk) 00:03, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Since the EXIF data says the author is NAMUKOLO SIYUMBWA and the copyright holder is ENESS PHOTOGRAPHY, her own personal and individual studio, I can't see a reason for license via VRT, instead of uploading by her own, with the option "This is my own work", as usually authors do with their original material. This is not the first time I see EXIF data that isn't perfectly aligned in every detail with the license, but I've never see (so far) a nomination for deletion based in that reason. Thanks anyway for bring my attention to this detail, I've learn that is a good practice to check the copyright notice in the device settings before taking photos for Commons. If you are not sure, if the used pictures are of the commercial nature and who is the user, you'd better not accuse other people. As it happens, Jamnik z Tarnowa is my good friend and having read your insult, we've had quite a good time laughing – thank you for that, it made our day :) Besides, lack of attention to details (this user could be easily checked, he's an admin on the wikipedia.pl and a volunteer of the Polish branch of WMF) undermines your qualities as an administrator, at least for me. About IP 123.136.25.130

Recently I nominate File:Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiky, 2015.png for deletion, because it's an unused personal photo of a non-notable person (also the wikidata item about this person have been deleted) and the file is created only for advertising. When I tagged the file an IP leave a message on my talk page and threatening me. See 1 and 2. Previously when I tagged the file for missing permission then also an IP left a message on my talk page saying the edit was vindictive. see here. There is no valid reason I can see for deleting the image. I see no evidence that it is intended for advertising either? While the IP is not happy with your tagging of the image (and I can see no reason for doing so) the edits do not seem to be particularly threatening however I will warn the IP. Hello, my mother language is not English, sorry if the message I shared is messy:

The files that I uploaded are not advertisements, because these files have educational value and are contained in the captions that are made (and detailed explanations are also available). And also the files that I uploaded are included in the Creative Commons attribution Licensing (can be reused), if there is a CC logo and something like that, i think it's not an advertisement. I have nothing to do with AntaraTV, and I'd been in the meeting which discusses what can be uploaded and what are the procedures. Re File:One&Only Aesthesis Bungalow Exterior Pool.jpg: I don't think "Uploaer's name is completely differennt to copyright holder" meets the standard of COM:CSD#F1: "clear copyright violation, with evidence that no Commons-compatible licensing has been issued by the copyright holder". A non-matching username is not sufficient confidence to assume that they cannot be the copyright holder; there is IMO an unacceptably high risk of false positives, as with your previous tagging here: Commons:Undeletion requests/Archive/2023-03#File:Cats Celebrating Easter.jpg. You seem to confuse COM:PRP and speedy deletion. Keeping a file requires there to be no significant doubt that it is free. However, speedy deleting a file requires there to be no significant doubt that it is a copyvio.
