This image was tagged as {{Fair use}} on en.wp and you tagged it as {{Copyrightedfreeuse}} here. Changing copyright tags like that is a form of copyright violation. Please DON'T do it without very good reason. Fair use images aren't allowed on the Commons, but you can't bend the rules just because you want an image here. pfctdayelise (translate?) 12:26, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not familiar with this plethoria of rules and did so in good faith, assuming that these tags were equivalent. I reject your accusation of "bending the rule just because ..." but am sorry for wrongful doing. --—Gf1961 15:20, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thanks for your quick response. I'm sorry if I was quick to "assume bad faith". I too dislike the "plethora of rules", but this time at least, it's not our doing - copyright law is a complicated beast.
Now I am not a lawyer... but I am not convinced 6.1 would cover press photos. I also see that the original website has "© Valsts kanceleja, 2002" at the bottom, but that might in fact be wrong (lots of websites just put that everywhere, regardless of the content).
My first suggestion would be to see what tags (if any) lv: has. I don't speak Latvian, so I'm afraid I can't help. If they have any copyright tags that would apply in this situation, if there is something similar to Template:PD-USGov. If there is, then that is totally welcome here, by all means introduce it. The only reason we don't have anything on Latvian law yet is because we don't have many Latvian contributors. We only have one self-identifying native speaker (User:Yyy). So that is 100% welcome.
If lv: don't have anything yet either, then it would be best to work out a template with that community, and lawyers. :) So it would be a little bit involved. So, they're my conclusions. Sorry once again for leaping to conclusions. It is usually better to ask first before uploading, where copyright is concerned. You can ask questions like this on the Help desk or the Village pump. Thanks, pfctdayelise (translate?) 21:22, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping out with the paintings. If you look really close, you'll notice that the painting you uploaded is 100px smaller than the original at English Wikipedia, en:Image:Barbararadziwill death 19th century.jpg.

Before saving a photo from English Wikipedia (or any other version of Wikipedia) to your own computer, I suggest that you point and click at the image first. That way, you will get a full-sized version of the image to save. Regards, Thuresson 16:23, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
