Thorpe pic[edit]

Can you help me crop and clean up this pic? It's desperately needed over on en. It's some kind of weird file that I can't edit, I can't even get it to display on my computer using Windows picture or Media center and had trouble uploading it. I'm not sure if you're aware of the Thorpe fiasco but if you have time/interest see from here down, it's on FAR and one issue is that it has no pic. Quadzilla99 05:10, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify I talked the flickr user into sharing so that thread doesn't relate to the flickr pic in question. Quadzilla99 05:11, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

wax orchard[edit]

I have recieved the copyright permission from waxorchard.com to use all their text content and images except for one picture which i have removed. my wikipedia username is beatricewaxo and you will see the copyright approval there. so i am asking you to please put my gallery back on my wiki commons page here are the names of the files:

23sawka.jpg 24novatone2_thumb.jpg 25pie_thuumb.jpg 26gp1.jpg 27lightheaded.jpg 28remo.jpg 29mackrosoft.jpg 30cheebacabra.jpg 31thesone.jpg 32gfx_satellite.jpg 33lyptea2.jpg logo_image.jpg pistol star.jpg

i had uploaded all of these on my wiki common page only to have them erased. can you please restore them asap. thanks

Please forward the permission email plus a list of the files to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Then a OTRS volunteer will check it and restore the files. For more information see Commons:OTRS. --GeorgHH 19:59, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dutch licence information[edit]

What he basically does is citing the freedom of panorama paragraphs of the copyright law. Here he assumes that, because there exists freedom of panorama, all pictures taken from the object are not copyrightable. He is wrong of course, and I will contact him about it. -- Bryan (talk to me) 18:54, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, thank you for help! --GeorgHH 19:36, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File:SoleteRayos.gif

LayersTransparent.jpg sat happily in commons for a few months, but when I was not looking it disappeared. There is no problem with the copyright of the picture. I created it from scratch. I know what copyright info to enter, and try to do so with every picture I upload, but I sometimes inadvertently may miss entering it on the page, especially days when the template seems messed up. Is there any way to undelete the image? I do not have any copy on my harddisk, so if it is gone from wikipedia, it is gone from the world. Thanks. Mlewan 21:04, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, if have undeleted the image and tagged with PD-self. --GeorgHH 21:20, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images tagging[edit]

Dear GeorgeHH, thank you for the vigilance on the recently uploaded images (see User talk:Pavlucco). As you may notice all of this images are EXTREMELY OUTDATED that means they were taken before the 20th century or just in the beginning of the 20th centurty - before the WWI. In the any way they depict a monastery destroyed by the bolsheviks in 1930. On the other side, as you may also notice:

These files are in the public domain in Russia. They were published before January 1, 1954, and the creator (if known) died before that date (For veterans of the Great Patriotic War, the critical date is January 1, 1950).

So, in the anyway, we have more than 20 years non-overlapping 'time buffer' from 1930 - the year of destruction of the object of these images to the critical date of January 1, 1954 (and later) - when Copyrighting is becoming 'theoretically possible'.

Unfortunately it is impossible to discover the creators for this truly public pictures because they died about 100 years ago.

My general policy on the image uploading means that:

  • I upload my own images (created by me) with Copyleft tags
  • Or apparently outdated pictures that are in the PD Worldwide.

So I ask you to remove 'no source' tags (some information is added) and quite sure these images may be left on Wikimedia absolutely legally.

Thanks to you once again, Pavlucco 19:57, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you cant tag an image with PD-old if dont know the the author and his death date. Also, if you tag an image with PD-Russia you must know the author or the date of first publishing of the image. --GeorgHH 11:49, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Alex Salmond[edit]

Hello - Despite explaining the copyright situation regarding this image in its description, it was deleted. The image was uploaded under exactly the same fair use guidelines as the image for other Scottish political leaders who appear in Wikipedia. Please explain why the image, released by the copyright holder for public use under specific conditions which were adhered to, was deleted. Thanks

Rab-k 18:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, the image was deleted because it is a press image and derivative works aren't allowed. All images on commons must allow derivative works and commercial use, fair use is not allowed here (but on english wikipedia). See Commons:Licensing#Material under the fair use clause is not allowed on the Commons. --GeorgHH 20:21, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

medalha de ouro[edit]

Hi, George. I think your doubt on this image is because you do not understand portuguese and the license is in this language. The man portrayed on it is a brazilian olympics gold medalist in Sailing and the image was uploaded by user Jo Lorib (I just cropped it) who took the license from Marcelo, the champion, who provided the image from his own archive to the uploader. This assertion is written in the license but you can't understand. I hope I have helped. Thanks. Machocarioca 01:05, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Machocatioca[reply]

Hello, thanks for your explanation. Your cropped image has no licence tag. If GFDL is the correct licence for Image:Medalha de ouro 2006 T e M.JPG, then you must add also {{GFDL}} to Image:Medalha de ouro 2006 3.jpg. Thank you. --GeorgHH 12:51, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

picture license[edit]

Dear GeorgHH, I am a novice, could you please help me. You've marked for deletion photo Image:Yeltsin resignation.jpeg which is placed to public domain by it's author. I provided source link and link to author's permissions page. What else can I do to revoke deletion mark? Which type of license should I specify there?--Stopar 03:32, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, the problem is that [1] not give a concrete licence and it is no information that derivative works are allowed (all images on commons must allow derivative works and commercial use).
You should ask the copyright holder about derivative works of this image. If it is allowed, you can use {{Copyrighted free use provided that}} (write {{Copyrighted free use provided that|any reproduction or broadcasting of the website’s materials contain a reference to the original source}}). --GeorgHH 08:32, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:HIVT.jpg[edit]

When Image:HIVT.jpg has a license tag saying self-published but you have tagged it no source twice, what doubt do you have? If you doubt the accuracy of self-publication source, please use COM:DEL instead.--Jusjih 01:45, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder that you say i should use COM:DEL for this, but you self use no source for Image:ABN AMRO Coolsingel.JPG. --GeorgHH 08:40, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Image:ABN AMRO Coolsingel.JPG does not say who made it so it has no source, but Image:HIVT.jpg has a self-published license, so speedy deletion does not apply, so you cannot consider both cases similar.--Jusjih 00:46, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gruß, --Goldkanal.tv 16:33, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--GeorgHH 16:47, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

German help needed[edit]

Hi Georg - Would you be able to translate my message on this user's page in German, please: User talk:Cornava - I understand German, but I'm afraid my written German would probably make less sense to this user than my English :) (There was still a misunderstanding after I added in the German template - user has left msg. on my talkpage) Thanks in advance and kind regards, Deadstar 10:22, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, bitte, nicht löschen. Danke und Grüsse.--Cornava 10:05, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nochmals Danke. --Cornava 10:14, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ist meine eben aufgeladene Image:Alberite1.JPG richtig?. --Cornava 11:49, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
--GeorgHH 11:53, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Grüsse, --Cornava 17:55, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
--GeorgHH 21:28, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hafengeburtstag[edit]

Hallo GeorgHH,

Vielen Dank. --Timo Beil 18:22, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Timo Beil 00:14, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

destroying a little bit too fast[edit]

Hi

I see that all the illustrations I had uploaded to illustrate some articles I had contributed to and my page have been deleted. The problem with automatic controls of image rights, is that they do not read the corresponding text nor "see" what it is about. If the had done so, they would have seen that the images used are 1) my creations in case of art objects 2) correspond to common (mathematical/scientifical ) knowledge in case of explaining schemas.

Now, "my" article is referring to illustrations that have disappeared. I understand you have good reasons to control images, but in this case removing was not appropriate action. How are you going to have them reappear ?

Thanks for being as fast to restore as you were to remove...

Best regards

--Lyonart 20:11, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, all files uploaded by you was deleted because they was missing essential information. No author was stated, also no source and no copyright statement. gallery tool not working(Or did I do somtething wrong ?)[edit]

Hi again GeorgHH

In your previous message to me, you also give a link "gallery" on which I can see my uploads. Actually, clicking on "gallery" opens a query page... which leads after several minutes to an error message. What can be the problem ? Sorry, I am trying to be a clean wiki contributer and write good, thought-over articles, but still in the learning phase...

And of course thanks for help/explaination/etc. --Lyonart 20:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this seems to be a sever problem, you did it right. But it shows only excisting files, your deleted files will not be displayed. Please use this link to see all your files, deleted (red) and excisting (blue).
You can simple upload the files again, but remember to fill out all fields at the information-text box in the online form (see Commons:First steps/Quality and description). --GeorgHH 20:41, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--GeorgHH 10:27, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dustsucker 11:56, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unknown author[edit]

I have imported some pictures on Commons, founded on wikipedia in different langages (but not from Wiki en!). Since that, i've got messages ti inform me that the authors were unkwon et thait teh files will be delated withn a week. I don't understand what i have to do. All those picture are in public domain ou free or rights, fonded 'and used) on Wiki but i can't find any name of author.Couthon 15:44, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's the problem, you can't say it is in the public domain if you don't know the author or source of the original image. Such files with incomplete information are not usable on commons and will be deleted. --GeorgHH 17:36, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't understand. The picture of Steiner on Wiki it has tehe label "public domain" and the page related to this picture mentions that it may be transferred on Commons ; they are non informations on the author on the pages about the picture or about Steiner and this illustration is present on Wiki it since monthes.Couthon 08:00, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, i have seen it, but the images should also be deleted on the wikipedias. The move-to-commons label is useless if the image has incomplete source and license information. Source information is meaning that the photographer is named, and also the date of the photograph. Without this information we have no indication for PD/GFDL or that the uploader on wikipedia is the photograper self (this is doubtful). The only way to receive information about the images is to ask the uploaders on wikipedia. --GeorgHH 09:21, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is the picture: Image:Peugeot Type-190-S.jpg.
Unfortunately, I have made a mistake when I uploaded the photo. In fact, The picture doesn't show a Peugeot Type 190, but a Peugeot Type 172 BC. So I ask you to remove the picture, so I can re-upload it with the right filename... Thank you very much! Let me know! Bye bye! Luc106

Danke für die prompte Erledigung. --Clemensfranz 17:52, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You take at my photo "copyvio'. I don't understand why... My friends from other jobs and my jobs give me photo with licence with I use for Wiki. You are blind or I cant't write in possible for you? Joymaster 22:40, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You dant't havy any problems? Picture and photographs wich I take for Wiki are clean - GFDL or PD - I think you have trust me and it will be OK. Best regards Joymaster 22:48, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's a different if you take a photo yourself or if it was taken by someone other. If the photo is not your own you must provide a permission.
I can't trust one who provide hundreds of photos with unclear license information or hundreds of photos against project scope. An administrator should know about the generally commons policy rules, and he should stand to the rules to set a good example. --GeorgHH 08:12, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here I write that I have permission - you still are thinking that it isn't possible? Maybe you don't know: I'm a soldier and I have many friends in anoher units. My friends are very happy that picture and photos wich they taken are for all wikipediausers. Joymaster 20:29, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I look at your user-page. You don't understand my language, and you don't have helpful users with knoledge polish language... Problems are not in permission but they are in understanding. Think - nobody from this group say nothing about permission - And think that about 12% admins are from Poland. They understand permission. Joymaster 20:38, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kategorienamen[edit]

Hallo GeorgHH,

18:01, 18. Mai 2007 GeorgHH (Diskussion | Beiträge) hat „Category:Sewing machine“ gelöscht (moved to Category:Sewing machines (plural). content was: 'Category:SewingCategory:Machines')

--GeorgHH 11:31, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion error[edit]

Kindly undelete Image:Phanerozoic Carbon Dioxide.png and Image:Solar Activity Proxies.png and any other of my images you deleted. They are dual licensed GFDL and CC-NC-BY-SA. As I would expect a Commons admin to know, mutually incompatible licensing options are entirely possible, simply requires a reuser choose one. Images on Commons need to be licensed under at least one compatible license, but do not require that all licenses be compatible.

As they were copied from Wikipedia (and not directly uploaded by me), they may have been documented incorrectly, but they should be marked {{GWArt}}. Dragons flight 07:24, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion warning Image:L. Ron Hubbard Life & Death.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

License[edit]

Hello GeorgHH.

I'm new in Wikimedia Commons, and I don't know what's wrong with the license of this photo: Image:Catavino.jpg. I took it myself, and it has the tag with the CC license.

Thanks --El Pantera 09:16, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello El Pantera, your first upload on 19:51, 7. Apr. 2007 was without licence information for the image, this was the reason for deletion. Now it is ok, thank you. --GeorgHH 19:26, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Domingo photos[edit]

Fine, delete it. It was so difficult for me to request for permission from Mr. Domingo office via his PR to send me photos to be legally published in Wiki "groups" including Commons etc but now, after my hard work and finally managed to get them, you suggest for deletion? Probably my remark was wrong because I dont know what actually to write. But if I was wrong about my remarks, you should have advised me what to do instead of "SUGGEST" for deletion. I have deleted the page etc, no need to "vote" or suggest for deletion!. Thanks for nothing Georg! - Whjayg 08:03, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I never post photos of any celebrities in my life nor do I bother to ask permission for it except for Domingo because I believe he deserves to have good photos in all Wiki Family. I wrote there as promotional because I thought that is how it should be written based on what I saw many people doing it in Wiki. The photos are given with unconditional permission straight from the PR in Placido Domingo office that hold all the events, publicities, his official website etc. The PR never state any terms and condition at all. When I requested for permission, I sent e-mail through the e-mail BOX in Placido Domingo official website, not from some agents or recording companies because I believe the consent should come from the company of the singer itself. I was expecting people here to advice me on what to write in the remarks or at least discuss with me if I have done or write anything wrong. I never expect the admin could easily come up to the conclusion for the photos to be deleted as soon as I uploaded it. The PR as a matter of fact, didn’t give me photos that I asked because according to her, all the photos that I asked have copyrights. She then, sending me photos approved by her company for various purposes including promotional etc to be published. So, it is still wrong to publish in here? I would love to hear your reply - Whjayg 09:50, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
First, I acknowledge your work to share Domingo photos in commons/wikipedia.
The deletion request is to discuss a problematical file, not a ultimate resolution.
As Túrelio wrote, all content on commons must be under a free licence. Please ask the copyright holder for permission to use the images with a concrete licence like {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}}. If you have permission, please send it to the OTRS system (it's not public) and the permission will be confirmed in the image description. --GeorgHH 19:23, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confessions from a fair use image upload violator[edit]

Heh, sorry about Image:Time Cover March 8 1963.jpg and Image:Time Cover July 23 1965.jpg

I kind of read(ish) that there were strong feelings about these types of images being uploaded here -- with the exception that I might have seen some others and also that William H. Pickering has such a handsome exterior for such a working brain. I thought (honestly) the more of those images that I could move from wikipedia to the commons the better. -- apologies from my morning at the meat market -- carol 23:28, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ps: let me know when you delete them and I will take the tags off from the wikipedia pages. -- carol
Hi carol, the images was deleted. To move images from en.wiki to commons is a good idea, with the exception of fair use images. I use the move-to-commons-assistant - it's easy to use, allows only acceptable licensed files and suggest you approriate categories. Try it! --GeorgHH 08:11, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I actually saw that upload tool before. I might soon use it, I really wanted to understand things in a way that only uploading manually could show. One of those things is akin to 'being pulled over by the commons police' and it is not always a bad experience :) -- carol 09:33, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It does say who created the content: her name is Izabela Kornak. What more do you want? Her age and bra size? --Anittas 21:00, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read the message I've added to Image:Zawichostmonument.JPG? You are not the creator of that image, so we need a written permission which confirm that you are allowed to publish this image and also Image:Vistula.JPG under the given license. You can find more info at Commons:Licensing and Commons:OTRS. --GeorgHH 19:04, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have forwarded the email from her with her permission to release the photos under free license, to the addy you gave me. In fact, I was going to do that. You see, I wanted to upload the photos on Wikipedia and there, it said that I should email the confirmation to that addy; however, upon selecting the license, it said that it would be better to upload the photos on wikimedia. When I got here, it said nothing about having to email the confirmation to any addy, so I assumed that it wasn't mandatory. It is for that reason that I did not email the confirmation to that addy, from the first place. Are you an admin? --Anittas 00:24, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your support to make sure that only checkable free contents are stored on Commons.
At the upload form you should see a short how too for file upload with a section Permission.
I have marked your image with a message that you have send an permission email to OTRS. Please check next days that a OTRS member make a edit to the images that confirms the source and licence information you send. Otherwise contact a OTRS user to clarify the situation.
And yes, I am Admin. Have a nice day. --GeorgHH 11:07, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Someformofhuman, sorry for late answering!
You could not find Category:Novena Square - I have created it after your upload and found other images about Novena Square. To categorize your uploads you can try the tool CommonSense. Or browse trough a excisting category like Category:Singapore by clicking on [+] in front of category entries.
If you wish you can copy my gallery layout, it's free. But I think everybody should make own creation for his user page/image gallery. --GeorgHH 11:32, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Gee, I can see there are alot of stuff going on in Commons! Thanks for letting me know! And yeah, I might get a gallery like yours too, I'll see what I can do with the wiki codes... Thanks!

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Adolph_Zukor.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. I did indicate where I found this image, and I indicated the date too. The picture was probably taken by a professional photographer, and the year is known: 1902. I guess that the photographer died a long time ago, but I cannot guarantee that it is at least 70 years. HandigeHarry 19:19, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's the problem. If the author is unknown, it is impossible to say he died 70 years ago, so it is not PD Old. --GeorgHH 19:25, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
