Thanks for uploading File:Kamal Kapoor in his debut film.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

How to upload works of ministry on social media?[edit]

Can we upload work by ministries under GODL licence, which are shared on Twitter?Admantine123 (talk) 18:55, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Admantine123 in my opinion, I believe uploading images from the official site of w:Press Information Bureau is the safest and wise choice. GaiusAugustine (talk) 05:02, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is a work of railway ministry and i think it's eligible for the licence.Admantine123 (talk) 17:53, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

File:Darsheel Safary in 2023.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. File copyright status[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. While everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the project, one or more of your file uploads had missing or false information regarding its source and copyright status. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their source is clearly documented. Files that fail to meet those conditions may be deleted, and users who fail to meet them may be blocked. Please follow our first steps, if you haven't already. If you have questions, feel free to ask at the Village Pump copyright question page or on my talk page. Thank you.

AI upscaling[edit]

If you are using AI to upscale an old photo, please make sure to add it to the Category:Photos modified by AI category, or a subcategory, and to include the {{Retouched picture}} template.

Also, you're welcome to upload AI takes on old photos to Commons, but you shouldn't describe them as being the originals.

You uploaded File:Dilip Kumar Jwar Bhata.jpg claiming it to be a 1940s newspaper clipping, but it isn't. I've replaced it with the original from the archive.org source you clipped it from, as that's a useful document in itself, and a project like the English Wikipedia would rather use an actual historical photo of somebody than an AI estimation of what they might have looked like up close. Belbury (talk) 09:18, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So, can I add that picture separately with a new file name while mentioning the original picture as original? GaiusAugustine (talk) 20:20, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, you just need to make it 100% clear that it's an AI upscaled version rather than the original. Belbury (talk) 20:38, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please include the appropriate category and template when asking an AI to make old images look like modern photos, as you did with a low resolution postage stamp at File:Mohd Rafi 2003 stamp of India.jpg. --Belbury (talk) 07:37, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Again for File:Mohd Hamid Ansari official photograph.jpg, you should not upload an upscaled photo and describing it as an "offficial photograph". Belbury (talk) 15:29, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

AI upscaling film stills?[edit]

Has your upload File:Manoj Kumar 1959.jpg been upscaled by an AI? If you're asking an AI to make an upscaling pass to a film still before you upload it to Commons, you should mention that in the description rather than identifying it as a regular film still.

This is especially relevant to the English Wikipedia, where the manual of style for historical images is to use originals rather than AI-upscaled versions. Belbury (talk) 11:42, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It seems likely that File:Jamuna 1957.jpg, File:Asha Parekh 1959.jpg and File:Manoj Kumar 1959.jpg are all AI upscaled images, so I will flag them accordingly. Let me know if I've misread that. Belbury (talk) 12:53, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry I forgot to mention that I their description, I'd like to know, does that make a significant difference if we upload upscaled AI version? If so, then are these images eligible for deletion? Please help me know how can I contribute if I want to upload AI upscaled images. Also, if possible kindly educate me on Not-PD-US-URAA tag and its usage, when it must be used, files ranging from which year to which year are eligible to be used in this tag and everything else related to it. I have tried reading about it but I'm not able to understand it particularly due to the usage of certain terms and lack of technical knowledge. I'll be highly grateful to you ☺️ GaiusAugustine (talk) 04:49, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The images won't be deleted, it's just that you must make it clear that these images have been upscaled. Describing File:Jamuna 1957.jpg as Movie stills from Miss Mary cropped on actor Jamuna is misleading when you have done more than just crop the original film still - I wasn't sure myself if it was upscaled or if it was possible for a 1957 film still to somehow be of this high a quality.
I've seen other Commons users (like Special:ListFiles/Guise) upload two versions of each image - the original and the upscaled version - which may be the best approach to take. Since you seem to be uploading film stills which can't be easily found elsewhere online, it would be very helpful for people researching these actors and films if you also made the originals available. The English Wikipedia (per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Images#Editing images) explicitly prefers to use the original historical images, so from that perspective it would be good to have the actual film still available for use.
Sorry to say I am not familiar with the Not-PD-US-URAA tag! If you ask at the Commons:Help desk I'm sure someone could talk you through it. Belbury (talk) 09:27, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
File:Abhijeet Das & Rajesh Khanna enhanced (cropped).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi, 1. Please upload the cropped version as a separate image. 2. We need the page source to check if the license is valid. Thanks, Yann (talk) 13:56, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
