Hi, your revert is not very helpful. The image ha so extracted into single images anyway. So why additional tags only promting unecessary edits? And why yo do not remove it yourself? Any image editor, even the simple one delivered with windows would do... -Andy king50 (talk) 18:01, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Because the compilation image will be used as it is in most cases, and it has a border, which needs removal. FunkMonk (talk) 18:51, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

I realized that this image, which I just uploaded, is a duplicate of File:Sauroniops holotype.png. Could you redirect my image to it? Thanks. Reid, iain james (talk) 15:06, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Yup, will do. FunkMonk (talk) 15:51, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

This message is shown from Commons:Undeletion requests

I uploaded this image, and I find it was deleted unfairly. User:Fastily deleted it even after the deletion discussion ended with it being kept. I have gone to the trouble to show want it would be like if someone could undelete it (https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&wpUploadDescription=%7B%7Bsubst%3AUpload%20marker%20added%20by%20en.wp%20UW%7D%7D%0A%7B%7BInformation%0A%7CDescription%20%3D%20%7B%7Ben%7CSkeleton%20of%20Opisthocoelicaudia%7D%7D%0A%7CSource%20%3D%20http%3A%2F%2Fqilong.wordpress.com%2F2011%2F03%2F09%2Fskeletal-posture%2F%0A%7CDate%20%3D%20March%209%2C%202011%0A%7CAuthor%20%3D%20Jaime%20A.%20Headden%0A%7CPermission%20%3D%20Evidence%3A%20The%20license%20statement%20can%20be%20found%20online%20at%3A%20http%3A%2F%2Fqilong.wordpress.com%2F2011%2F03%2F09%2Fskeletal-posture%2F%20page%20bottom%0A%7D%7D%0A%0A%0A%7B%7Bcc-by%7D%7D&wpDestFile=Opisthocoelicaudia%20skeleton.jpg). • Commons:Deletion requests/File:Phorusrhacid size comparison.png

I haven't looked at my commons account for a while, so i was to late when these were proposed for deletion. Both times you wrote that you couldn't find any proof for the license i listed (cc-by). These images come from this article. At the bottom of the page you will find "All the contents of this journal, except where otherwise noted, is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License". Since it was not "otherwise noted", i consider these images to have a cc-by license. Amphicoelias (talk) 11:52, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Hmm, but which CC attribution license? It doesn't seem to specify, there are non commercial ones as well. FunkMonk (talk) 12:13, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
I checked: It's cc-by-nc. Too bad :(. Amphicoelias (talk) 12:48, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Marsupialia

Hello,
I don't understand what you did arround Category:Marsupialia and Category:Metatheria.
They are both almost synonyms.
Also now the Taxonavigation are incorrect.
What was your thought?
Best regards Liné1 (talk) 07:12, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Do you want to put Category:Marsupialia in Category:Metatheria, like en:Metatheria ?
The problem is that en still gives them both Infraclass rank.
Regards Liné1 (talk) 07:32, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Sparassodonta was incorrectly categorised as marsupials. Metatheria is a taxon that includes both sparassodonta and marsupialia (and many other extinct groups), therefore both belong under that category. The previous configuration was factually wrong. FunkMonk (talk) 07:36, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
So you want to follow en:Metatheria classification.
Do you know any online website that recognize that classification?
What about the problem that Category:Marsupialia in Category:Metatheria have the same rank 'Infraclass'?
Regards Liné1 (talk) 07:44, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Looking at Google scholar, it seems all recent papers identify sparassodonts as metatherians, not marsupials, which are also metatherians. As for ranks, these are very arbitrary (compared to just clades), so the problem is pretty much the system. We cannot let arbitrary ranks obstruct scientific accuracy. Thanks for uploading File:Oryx heads.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. Triceratops specimen ID

Hello, FunkMonk! I notice you identified File:Triceratops, Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology (5848860896).jpg as AMNH specimen 5116. I have no reason to dispute it, as the display has evidently appeared at several institutions; I‘m just curious as to how you know it’s the same one.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 03:57, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

It's an extremely distinctive skull, no others really look like it. It has the Torosaurus shaped frill, yet no holes. 07:28, 24 March 2014 (UTC)FunkMonk (talk)

Ornithomimus for a publi

Hi Funkmonk,

Still haven't dealed with the photos of dinosaurs, sorry about that. I just noticed you have an excellent photo of the skull of Ornithomimus edmontonicus. Can I use it for an article that I'm about to submit? There is no scale but I have lower resolution photos of the same specimen with scales so that this problem can be fixed. Tell me what you think about it. If you agree, it would be great to have your real name to credit you. Up to you though! Cheers, --Christophe Hendrickx (talk) 16:42, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Ah, if it is one of those from Canada, I just uploaded it from Flickr, I didn't photograph it myself. So the Flickr user should be credited. FunkMonk (talk) 20:54, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

ArchiveBot

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1. Image to redirect

Yesterday, I uploaded a crop of one of Headden's skeletals, File:Therizinosaurus known material.jpg. It had a very small pixelation, so I decided to modify File:Therizinosaurus skeletal.png to show the known material. I updated the skeletal image, so I would like you to redirect Therizinosaurus known material.jpg to Therizinosaurus skeletal.png if possible. Thanks - Reid, iain james (talk) 14:56, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

Hhmm, but they're not the same image, so why? Images need to be duplicates to be redirected. FunkMonk (talk) 15:19, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
Really? I was wanting it redirected because of how small the image is (12 kb) and that there is a larger image already showing the same material. If it shouldn't be redirected, could you at least make the image larger, at least 20 kb? I am not that experienced at making images a larger pixelation, if fact, I have no idea how to do it. Reid, iain james (talk) 16:07, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
Well, I don't think it hurts having it around, but I do think I've seen a higher res version once. And upscaling doesn't really help, because no information is added, it'll just get blurry. FunkMonk (talk) 16:24, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

User requiring block

Hello FunkMonk. While checking my watchlist, I noticed user had uploaded a random Acheroraptor image off the internet. User:박동찬. I checked his contributions, and all his uploads are pictures that are up for speedy deletion as copyright violations, or lack source and license information. Each and every image (except for maybe two) can be found online, out of the wikis. FunkMonk, I think this user requires a block or they will keep uploading images from google searches. Reid, iain james (talk) 12:57, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure I can only block him if he continues to do this after warnings. But if he does, I'll give him a block. FunkMonk (talk) 16:04, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Strange dinos

I am trying to find cause to remove all those old handdrawn COM:DW dino images. I have nominated some, not all; if you'd care to take a look at the rest of his/her uploads and try to find the images from which this person reversed, and used some paint application to change slightly that would be great. If you don't want to file a DR yourself, you can leave me the info on my talk page with links and/ or send me an email, either way is fine. Thank you for your help! Hi. Few years ago, you have uploaded a file File:F John Series 2 Epigaulus card 24.jpg with description: Tiere der Urwelt (Creatures of the Primitive World) Series 1 and 2 Illustrated by F. John (born/died?) Printed 1902 and 1906(?) Germany Series 2 Card 24 Epigaulus. I am afraid there is a little mistake, because w:William Diller Matthew described new Genus and Species of rodents [2] in 1902 - as Ceratogaulus, and Ceratogaulus rhinocerus. Few years later w:James W. Gidley described another one (as he thought) Genus and Species Epigaulus hatcheri in 1907 ([3]). After years Epigaulus was included into Ceratogaulus. Now, if that picture was published in 1902, as you wrote, It could not be named Epigaulus, because such Genus name did not exist yet then. Or - it was printed later - after 1907 as Epigaulus. Would you mind to check which version is correct? The name of the file including Epigaulus, or date 1902? Greetings from Krakow. Jacek555 (talk) 13:38, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

Dear FunkMonk,

Have you seen any free images for Percy Cox other than this image? I mean any free images from say 1914-1921 at the latest in case there are any URAA problems. URAA says that an image is not copyright free until 95 years after publication. Iraq doesn't have any URAA issues but I was just wondering if there were any other free images say from the Arab Bureau. Just curious, Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 21:10, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

No, but there seem to be a lot of images of him on Google, perhaps check their sources? FunkMonk (talk) 21:19, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Extension names of images

I have a dilema. I have created a larger, slightly different version of File:Adasaurus mongoliensis2 copia.jpg, but the extension of the image new image is apparently .gif. This means the only way I can upload the better image is as its own file, which I would prefer not to do. Is it possible to change the "Mime" of an image, or should I just upload the better image as its own file and then have the older image redirected. What should I do? Reid, iain james (talk) 21:16, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

You can just open the file in Photoshop and save as jpg. FunkMonk (talk) 21:33, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) There’s a template for linking the old file to the improved version, so you don’t need to overwrite it. At any rate PNG is a better format than JPEG, when converting a GIF or other indexed-colour original; it preserves transparency (if any) and avoids introducing compression artifacts. (AFAIK the GIF format is accepted here but deprecated; I’ve seen such images being converted to PNG by bots.)—Odysseus1479 (talk) 04:55, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Backgrounds of Flickr images

Hey FunkMonk. I have been going through Allosaurus skeletons, and have come across a few from Flickr. These might pose copyright problems, not because of the skeleton but because of where the image was taken and what is in the background. The main image with these problems is File:Allosaurus atrox.jpg. The image was taken in Australia, but as is stated in Freedom of Panorama, 2D artwork and Text are not free in Australia. This might mean that the background must be painted out, as it includes partial stamps (2D artwork) and a fair amount of Text in the photograph. Does the background require painting out, or is it okay to keep? IJReid (talk) 16:01, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

I think this rule applies in most such cases: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:De_minimis FunkMonk (talk) 21:33, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
So it shouldn't be necessary to paint stuff out unless it is a main focus of the image, or if it brought up during a deletion nomination. FunkMonk (talk) 08:36, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

Nomination

Hiya, please see Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Christina1969. Thank you ! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:09, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

I believe that User:Levi bernardo intended to redirect File:Lexovisaurus2.jpg to File:Lexovisaurus1.jpg, but not having user rights, incorrectly redirected it. Could you fix this? Thanks, IJReid (talk) 18:21, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
