Hello, Foxhunter22!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Mark Rainsford-1.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

As long as the page that is there now remains as it is. Then delete the images you want. I did a few photoshop work that was substandard. So delete those and keep the original ones. Tnx Foxhunter22

File:Thomas Kent.jpg[edit]

I have tagged File:Thomas Kent.jpg for speedy deletion, as it does not appear to be your own work, and is therefore in violation of copyright. Scolaire (talk) 10:44, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Scolaire, yes I found it on Images in google. The Color one! However I noticed the B/W one is added. That pic I found on images also BUT I snagged it , resized it and cut it myself. Then I added to the Profile one. So technically is my own work. I think for the day that's in it - Thomas Kent's Funeral. He fully deserves a picture in wiki. Thanks for you comment. PS My own Grandfather fought in 1922 War of Independence, Anthony Phelan from Tipperary. He knew Dan Breen very well. Kind Regards Foxhunter22

I only saw this now, as I only go on Commons very rarely. Just to clarify: the reason I didn't tag the B & W photograph is because it was taken in or before 1916, so the photographer is likely to be seventy years dead, which would make the pic out of copyright under Irish law. The painting appears to be much more recent, so it is almost certainly copyright. Once a picture is copyright, it doesn't matter what you do to it, it doesn't make it your own work. It's still copyright. If you're searching Google Images again, I recommend that you add "public domain" or "cc by-sa" (the Creative Commons licence) to the search parameters. Even then, you should check each individual image carefully to make sure it is public domain or under a Creative Commons cc by-sa licence. Cheers. This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Brendan O'Carroll.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Brendan O'Carroll.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Yes I created this File. However go ahead and Delete it. I'm not interested in this any more !!! Foxhunter22
This is not where you comment on the image deletion. I'm not an admin so I don't delete anything. Please use the link the deletion notice if you want to comment as no one else is likely to see it here. You stated that you were born after 1972, so you were 10 or even younger when you got access to Cyril Smith in the House of Commons as this image was taken there in 1982. I don't think so but convince me otherwise. Ww2censor (talk) 17:26, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Look of course I wasn't there and i don't have to convince you of anything! I'm getting a CENSOR stuck in my face with wiki now and feel BULLIED! I came in on this to try and make good contributions when wiki started up! That's it! Now it's like Nazi Germany or State Police slamming down every time a photograph is slapped up! Today I've got we got a "SPOTLIGHT" on your work now and were after you type of attitude. I don't know who you guys are but your Censor and attitude has ruined it! So tell me "You put a Photo in 1962 and you were born after 1972" Wow that means you were only 10" ... That means Nothing other than a feeling of being BULLIED by a bunch of Censors. Exactly the opposite of what Wikipedia meant to me and many others just a few short years ago. In fact I think I will come outside the BOX of Wikipedia and highlight all this! That is something that the wider general need to know- via radio, TV and competing Business with Wikipedia!

I'm sorry you feel this way but some contributors who get called out sometimes feel hard done by when they feel they are just trying to improve the content and feel rejected, picked on and singled out for their good faith efforts. That's understandable but a lack of understanding of copyright is usually the issue and due to its complexity having your images deleted feels like a personal attack. We are just trying to ensure there are no issues with the actually copyright owners who could sue us for having violated their copyright. You won't have the problem but the wikimedia foundation will. Good contributions are always very welcome but they require full details and verifiable copyright status and I'm sure you can actually do that in future.
Again, I'm sorry you feel bullied that is certainly not the intention. You must be way too sensitive to clearly stated facts; we are just trying to help you. Anything I told you is based on the facts of the images and posts you made. You uploaded many images you did not take but claimed them as your own, perhaps due to not understanding copyright and, by your own admission, you are not old enough to have taken most of them. Nazi, Police State, Bullying, I don't think so: posts giving you details and solutions are not censorship and there is no censorship going on, it just happens to be my user name and I actually save many images from deletion. We do not keep images whose copyright status is unknown or false. Most of your images will probably be deleted because we cannot verify their copyright status, that's all, only you can fix that. If we could do that, by you cooperating in providing the actual sources, we might be able to keep most of your uploads which I am sure you would be happy about. Any image nominated for deletion will have a notice placed here out of courtesy so you have the opportunity to fix it, so don't get all upset when you see more such notices but I don't have let you know in future. You can avoid that by updating the sources as requested politely. Ww2censor (talk) 10:45, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well that's all well and good but I still don't feel one bit happy about it! All you have to do is go into Nelson's Pillar contributions from me there. I posted VIDEO, Images and content. I work with many Historical Societies of good Repute in Ireland. The Royal Irish Academy and others. I have contributed photographs of James Gandon the Irish Architect, an image gleaned from the Internet and snagged and uploaded. Also the Info Box text in most of the Prominent People I have worked on. Why not go into Nelson's Pillar contributions then, and delete my entire Gallery I posted using a similar technique. My Argument is that this "Copyright Infringent" bullshit will stifle complete artistic freedom and completely fuck up the interesting angle of what wikipedia was supposed to be about ! For instance any Arsehole can see i'm not old enough to post an image from 1916 with Nelson Pillar surrounded by rubble after that Rebellion. So don't you fucking come on here and Partronize me now when you said "Hey unless your 120 years Old" attitude you couldn't post that video. Any piece of shit CENSURE can do that !! I think you will agree !!

So for a Copywrite Infringement Legal Angle of BULLSHIT, we get the majority of our hard work pulled ??? How are we going to find the SOURCE of these Photos - most of them pulled online or from various other source now? I've been contributing for 5 Years on this once great site, and now it is STATE POLICE patronizing me and many others who worked our asses off to be treated like shit by a bunch of fucking snotty no-brain CENSURES!

And who is going to SUE ME? Who is going to pull ME up on a bunch of Photographs??? Should I be sitting in my room worried about that? Oh No Wikipedia are ON to me. SPOTLIGHT is being shone on ALL my work. Oh My i'm shitting my pants!

Well heres the deal !! I'm NOT removing 1 Photo I contributed over the last 5 Years to this site and don't expect to receive 1 more mention about it! I have NO intentions of removing ANY of the PHOTOS and Stand by ALL my Hard work is presenting it to the Public. You wanna go back to the Dark Ages of Print , well go right ahead. However in an Historical Context, gleaning interesting Photos from 100 Years ago or More is a fucking Hard thing to do my son! So either you get your Lawyers or your BOSS over there to re-think how we Historical People get our galleries and Photos and so on PULLED by a bunch of NAZI Censures doing everything by the fucking BOOK !!

Or maybe Wikipedia should re-consider it's Policy on Deleting Historical Photos, instead of BULLYING Historians on Historical Photos. Where do you want ME to get all these Historical Photos then? Buy em in the Museum?? It isn't going to happen. Instead you going to get a bunch of Source and File Boring contributions with no creative imput. Exactly what WIKIPEDIA was about 5 years ago.

Now where you agree or not is being pulled down and BULLIED with Legal Copywrite bullshit! I absolutely believe that and maybe WIKIPEDIA should consider another other other Legal Angle stumped up by the Historians V WIKIPEDIA then.

I propose to Challenge WIKIPEDIA's Stance on Historical Photos in the Courts IF i get one more Copywrite infringement item and so do all my colleagues in the RCA and many other Historial Institutions. I absolutely feel I've been bullied and made to look like a fucking idiot by YOU and your Censures.

My attitude and response reflects that and will ALWAYS reflect that , once I feel ABUSED and THREATENED Go tell that to your BOSS there in the office! Rethink on this very quickly in relation to Historical PHotos or WIKIPEDIA will be the ones getting a knock on the Door and a SPOTLIGHT shone down it's Throat! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Foxhunter22 (talk • contribs) 13:34, 8 March 2016

Well Thanks for making your views clearly known and also confirming you have no respect for people's copyright images. So be it. Ww2censor (talk) 22:01, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Taivo (talk) 09:12, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Taivo, for the invite. However I am loathe to do anything with wikipedia any more. The reason being is that i feel Totally BULLIED by the Censures on wikipedia here now. When Wikipeida started out- it was GREAT ! My main work was with History, Historical Buildings Architecture such as 'Nelson's Pillar' in Dublin blown up in 1966. I felt wiki allowed 2 things regards Historical Photographs 1 Freedom The Freedom to collect photographs freely online and to add character to them by cutting them any way I wanted and upload them to Wiki Commons ! 2 Creativity The Creativity aspect was important to me , to upload these Historical Photos. Then to give a Huge learning aspect to the general public in wikipedia. So much more interesting than reading from a History Book from before the Internet.

Problem. My problem now is 'Copyright'. The Powers that be on wikipedia regards 'Historical Photos' have been : ignorant, abusive, sneering, condemining and laughable. I recently got one fool say "Unless you were born in 1850, you couldn't have taken THAT photo from 1865". Really ? No Shit Sherlock !!!

Wikipedia has become policed and stamped with Copyright all over it and so has stifled, in my opinion totally TOTALLY stifled Creativity and flair regards Historical Photographs.

My Reaction is to either ignore all comments on Photographs or merely just to remove EVERTHING I contibuted to wikipedia over the last 6 years. What is the point if like 4 years ago I received PRAISE and now receive nothing but Bullying. One asshole even blabbered on about shining a 'SPOTLIGHT' on my whole contributions. The only SPOTLIGHT I remember this year was that USA Movie on Paedophile Priests that won and Oscar last month.

I don't like that ! Especially since most of my work with Historical Societies and talks using overhead projectors to people at Events are now compromised on wikipedia. It was really really interesting for a time on wikipedia, exciting and new as only the Internet could be especially regards History and how we view it . Now it's back to Text Book Boredom. I noticed even my 2 Video uploads on Nelson Pillar got removed, and it is 40 YEARS Ago this month since the Pillar was blown up. A Very Important time, especially for given talks and showing video and images to a new generation of people. Destroyed by Censures cutting it by the Book !! And so will be contributing NOTHING to wikipedia ever again. I felt BULLIED and replied with a lot of ANGER which is just not worth it! I will be instead creating my own websites and source all my stuff there !!

Kind Regards FoxHunter22

Most of these images for Sir Mark Rainsford and William and Thomas Rainsborough I worked on with a group of 4 other people a few years ago. I worked with a Genealogist in Pennsylvania USA who had access to DEEDS from the Registry of Deeds Kings Inn Dublin. That was where the Sir Mark Rainsford Signature came from and other information. The File:Rainsford Street Dublin 8.jpg is in fact my photo I took when at the Brewery a few years back. Same too for St Michan's Church Dublin.jpg. The Portrait of Sir Mark Rainsford is from Emily A Buckland Book printed 1932 of which I own.

The King William Statue Photos I worked with another guy here on wikipedia as yoursefl Ww2censor who claimed that once the Original source photo was present I could include 2 more ! Don't know how exactly that worked but that was the agreement then !

The Sheriff of Dublin 1690.jpg photo I took from the NLI Library when I found it there. I took the Photo of Lord Mayor's Chain 1698.jpg from the City Hall in Dublin a few years back. I have other copies of it and can include better versions if needed.

Other files such as Johann Pachelbel.jpg were deleted a while back. That was gleaned from the Internet and I have no copyright claim to it. Similarly Sir John Gray.jpg and Charles lucas.jpg so they I suppose can be deleted.

The Putney Quote.jpg is mine as I took that in Putney Church in London myself !!

The Battle standard.jpg I got from the London Maritime Museum when researching William Rainsborough. The Copy I took from the book - "The Rainsborowes" from Adrian Tenniswood. I personally know Adrian and worked with him on the book a few years ago.

The Thomas Rainsborrowe contributions I worked with the Author of 'Fire under the Ashes' John Donaghue who is a Professor of History in the USA.

The Saracen's head.jpg I worked with genealogist in the USA who sent it to me and asked me to include it in wikipedia page.

So as you see Ww2censor, it is very much a collaborative work I do with many others in producing the wikipages. It is not all totally down to me and my work!

The Richardrainsford sig 1667.jpg comes from a Letter I received from USA from the Genealogist working in Boston USA. It is in fact a Direct Ancestor of Sir Richard Rainsford.

I have lots of other contributions to make but I am loathe to as I , to be frank don't fully understand the Copyright Laws surrounding the Historical Photographs. However I can tell you I have put in lots of Research over the years to gain access to most of the Photos artifacts and DEEDS from the Registry of Deed in Dublin and the NLI - the National Library of Ireland. Together with my personal effort and the work of my team in the RHS - Royal Historical Society in Dublin. As well as working with various Historians in the USA such as the said authors Adrian Tinniswood and John Donaghue.

I do make apologies if my reply was abrupt earlier. However to see lots for work suddenly disappear is not a very good experience. Not just my personal work effort but a group of people and a team over the years. I hope you can understand that !!

All the Best FoxHunter22

In the deletion notice it clearly states: We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry, because your comments here will most likely never be seen by those reviewing the deletion discussion. As some friendly advise, if you want to contribute anything you should respond there not here. Ww2censor (talk) 23:11, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ww2censor, I'm not sure how to go about doing that. However over the next week I will work it out! It would be a shame to see all the photos deleted, as it was a lot of hard work and research to put the pages together. A group effort as I say ! Not me alone ! That group involved many prominent Historians and Authors etc.

All our work on Nelson Pillar Dublin for instance has now been totally removed. That was a shame also, as it's 50 Years to the month that Nelson Pillar got blown up by the IRA. With such an Iconic Monument destroyed, even the video posts that showed the Monument in it's Glory is gone !

The timing couldn't have been worse !

However if that's the way it is, well that's the way it goes we suppose!

Well sorry for the Brash language or Irate language earlier on, but we hope you can somehow see where were coming from with this!

It's a work of Passion we do these Historical Posts and try to make it as interesting as we can !!

No hard feelings and please accept our apologies.

Kind Regards FoxHunter22

" I'm not sure how to go about doing that" Really!!. You have had several posts on different page telling you what was needed. You did not respond to the nelson's pillar deletion and have not done so for this one either. As I already told you there is no use writing here about who and how much effort went into these images. You have never provided any true source for any of your images, that is what is needed. Deletion nominations usually last about a week, so I suggest you get your skids on and post something positive to the deletion nomination page as I also already advised you. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 17:58, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough Ww2censor. I will do my best ! Thanks for reply !
