automated copying of image descriptions

(C'est domage que ma vocabulaire francaise est tellement horrible après plus qu'une décennie de francais à l'école et il faut que j'aille m'entraîner en francais un jour - mais pas ici, je pense... :-/ ) I hope you remember this bot action to copy over the descriptions from the old to the new versions of Sowerby's mushroom drawings we talked about before weekend... The full set is now uploaded. It is File:Coloured Figures of English Fungi or Mushrooms - t. 1.jpg to File:Coloured Figures of English Fungi or Mushrooms - t. 438.jpg - but take care: There are some numbers missing: 409, 423, 427 and 437 are missing (hope I didn't miss one of the missing ones..).--Natr (talk) 04:29, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

I'll have a look on it this evening. Esby (talk) 08:18, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
shall i just replace the description of the jpg with those of the png version? Esby (talk) 22:46, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
I think, that would fix almost all of the introduced regression and would be sufficient, I think. But if you want to do more: Next thing that comes to mind is making the "source" statement fit the genesis of the new files. - If you can leave those like they are now and replace only the rest of the description page that would be great.--Natr (talk) 18:40, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Here what I plan to do:
  • copying the description of the existing png files over the jpg description.
  • moving the extra information in the description field.
  • changing the source statement (I need an example of what it is supposed to be.)
  • probably changing the categorization of the jpeg files, so the jpg / and png won't be mixed in the same categories.
Esby (talk) 20:42, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
For the "source" field I propose something similar to what is there now: "
cropped from raw scan of the book page (with lossless treatment of remaining JPEG image data), which was obtained from the Internet Archive at http://www.archive.org/details/colouredfigureso00sowe
"
If you want to see just the JPEG files, maybe the page Coloured Figures of English Fungi or Mushrooms already suits your needs..?
Another minor thing to fix is the formatting of the "extra information": Instead of the <table> with those nasty absolute measures, there should be simple definition lists, I think.
And then there is the remaining PNG files... - In case we keep them a link in the "other versions" field would be nice, if on the other hand we go for deleting them altogether there is this set of pages on Wikisource left where the PNG version should be replaced with the JPEG version(s).--Natr (talk) 23:38, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
(indent reset)
I think I am going to create a template for the Sowerby caption, so the relevant information will be stored more siginificantly. Should it be moved into the description, I havn't make have an opinion yet... Esby (talk) 15:00, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

India Loves Wikipedia 2011

Hi Esby, We would like to have a statistics page of Users/No of Uploads from one user for the event India Loves Wikipedia. Can you please help us ?--Naveenpf (talk) 01:37, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

I'll do that this evening. Do you need the list of all images or just a summary? Esby (talk) 07:36, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Esby, Just a summary is enough now. --Naveenpf (talk) 01:23, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, I forgot, I'll do that monday. (I am not at home for now). Esby (talk) 16:54, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
overall Stats done, see talk page of the corresponding category. Esby (talk) 23:03, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Esby --Naveenpf (talk) 19:22, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
