Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

esponila dove ti aggrada, spero solo che qualcuno non obietti che è un'altra piattaforma. Sai su itwikipedia si spacca sempre il cavillo in quattro. Comunque il messaggio è: ogni utente se ha tempo "dovrebbe" mappare meglio le immagini della sua zona (piazzette, municipi, stazioni, chiese...). Siccome c'è la funzione wikilove (icona col cuoricino rosso in alto a desta, dopo "history") ho deciso che ringrazio a uno a uno gli utenti che in questi anni lo hanno fatto. --Alexmar983 (talk) 07:45, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Non errore ma convenzione[edit]

Ciao, in realtà dovessimo seguire rigidamente le regole di Commons dovremmo evitare le sovra categorizzazioni. Purtroppo o per fortuna essendo l'Italia piena è strapiena di soggetti culturali fotografabili si verifica spesso il problema di intasare le categorie madri con anche centinaia di foto scaricate da bot prese ad esempio da Panoramio. L'esperienza ci ha fatto notare che è più semplice spostare coni il cat-a-lot foto da una categoria all'altra se esiste una categoria cuscinetto per cui vedrai in quasi tutte le categorie relative ai comuni italiani quella impostazione. Non so se hai fino ad ora provato almeno in qualche occasione a dare una più oggettiva categorizzazione ha molte foto presenti in Commons, se avrai voglia di cimentarti in questa impresa alle volte quasi ingestibile probabilmente ti renderai conto che è la soluzione migliore, anche se a farlo capire a certi admin abituati a rigidità Wikipedia è un'impresa. :-)--Threecharlie (talk) 11:59, 19 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Credo vi sia un problema culturale di fondo, tra chi vede le cose rigidamente e chi ricorda che su un progetto wikimedia può collaborare chiunque. Chi non è esperto del settore considera l'architettura arte "di primo livello" o no? Un monumento celebrativo è una scultura, ma quando è composta da una sola statua? E se è un busto? E se la statua è priva di basamento? E una semplice lapide è un monumento? Son tutte domande che mi è ci siamo fatti negli anni ma senza perdere di vista il problema principale, trovare una categoria che riesca a farti ritrovare facilmente un immagine. --Threecharlie (talk) 13:22, 19 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
