Baseball photo

Hello and happy new year! I was wondering if you could help me figure out how to establish the PD claims (if such exist) for this image. You can see further information on it at the FAC. (Isn't the nominator being nice!) Awadewit (talk) 01:36, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help removing something from Commons

File:Leafs v Red Wings 1942.jpg - This should be removed from Commons, since it is only PD in Canada. An editor had asserted it was PD in the US, but that was an incorrect tag (it was not published pre-1923). It could be put on Wikipedia, though. Awadewit (talk) 00:47, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. I left you a message at enwiki, thought I'd let you know here as well since you're more active here. Wizardman 17:00, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question on need for US and foreign PD (on Commons files)

Hi, Elcobbola, I need some advice. Commons is for files that must be "free" in their country of origin and in the US. On Wikipedia, w:Wikipedia:Public domain#Country-specific rules states that "For works (photographs and others alike, but excepting sound recordings made prior to February 15, 1972) not published in the U.S., the following rule applies: If the work was in the public domain in the country of origin as of January 1, 1996, it is in the public domain in the U.S. (Even if it was published after 1923, but only if no copyright had been registered with the U.S. Copyright Office.)"

According to http://www.museumscopyright.org.uk/crown-a.pdf, this means that photographs taken before 1 June 1957 are in the public domain regardless of their publication status. As such, I reason that File:IWM-E-5366-Cruiser-IV-and-Matilda-Egypt-19410905.jpg and File:PanzersJune1941.jpg are in the public domain for US and UK. However, {{PD-BritishGov}} would only apply to UK. What tag can be applied to these images to signify that they are PD in US as well? {{PD-old-50}} fails because it is for expiration of copyright since death of creators. {{PD-1996}} cannot be used too for these unpublished (unknown) photos as it states that the works must have been published before 1996. Did I misinterprete some of the regulations, is there a template for this that I missed out, or do we have to fill in {{PD-reason}}? Jappalang (talk) 22:32, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jappalang, I haven't yet had time to look into this; I'll try to answer in couple of days. Эlcobbola talk 23:43, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, thanks for the update. Hope to hear of your opinion soon. Jappalang (talk) 01:05, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just a note that this seems to be resolved: Carl Lindberg, in Commons:Village pump/Archive/2009Jan#PD in UK, but not in US, what do to?, said the {{PD-UKGov}} tag applies to US as well. Jappalang (talk) 00:37, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note

Hi Elcobbola. I was wondering if you could take a look at this page. I just got reverted without a good reason, IMO. Even then it's a block evasion by Mutter Erde. However, it seems like they're "ignoring" him. Regardless, I don't think that's the right thing, to let him continue "canvassing" (see the edit for more information). My German isn't the best so I was wondering if you could contact the user. Then discuss the issue with rv user. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 18:45, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it appears I've already been woven into the typical conspiracy theory and Widescreen seems quite aware to whom s/he is speaking. Despite my abhorrence of canvassing, I don't suspect my participation would be in anyway fruitful; we'll need to trust the judgment of the closing bureaucrat(s) if it becomes an issue. Эlcobbola talk 23:39, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. As usual he is dragging me into the discussion and linking to my RfA. I wonder why the admins over at de.wiki aren't doing anything. I guess drama? --Kanonkas(talk) 17:09, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Probably a matter of practicality. The range is too large to block; revert and another IP address will show up a day later. Sometimes the best way to manage the simple and the addlepated is to ignore them. Эlcobbola talk 18:29, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks ..

Request for your advice

Hi again. I have a question on what country of origin should we assume for a photo when a foreigner goes on tour. Could you advise at Commons:Village pump#British photographer takes photo in Australia—which is the country of origin?? Thank you. Jappalang (talk) 07:47, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Lupo's comments. Do you still need me to comment there? I see some other folks have commented since... Эlcobbola talk 03:02, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think a show of concensus would do good. This has repercussions for YellowMonkey's FAC efforts for his Invincibles FT drive. Jappalang (talk) 07:23, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
